He kissed her, happier than he’d ever been in his life. This incredible girl lifted him from an earth-shattering low to an incredible high in a matter of minutes, without even trying. She had a natural ability to brighten anyone’s day. She would be his wife, and it made him as giddy as an adolescent. He couldn’t contain his smile and broke the kiss to emit an excited laugh.

Tessa shoved him playfully in the shoulder. “I’m kissing you passionately and you’re laughing?”

“I’m just so happy, Tess.” He sat in the chair next to her, but kept her hands in his. “My life has been crazy these last few months. I thought things would be calm once we returned from the tour, but so much happened.” He thought of Aunt Mary and it dampened his euphoria, but only by a fraction. He wouldn’t let it steal away the joy flourishing inside of him. “A lot of it was pretty shitty. But all the good things that happened are because of you. I don’t know how the hell I would’ve handled it if you weren’t here to lean on. You make it all better. You brighten my soul.”

Her lips were slightly parted as she listened to him intently, completely focused. “I can’t believe you’re saying all this, Mason. You are my spirit.” She sat in his lap and kissed him again, letting her lips linger with a slow caress.

She shifted her position, so she straddled his legs and continued to kiss him. Lifting her hips, she rubbed herself against his growing erection, and it filled him with fire. His hands landed on her waist and his fingers slid under her top until they found her bra and he pushed it up to expose those hot-as-fuck barbells and rubbed them with his thumbs. Breaking the kiss with a heavy pant, she pulled her top over her head and discarded her bra. Then she tugged Mason’s shirt off and threw it to the floor.

He grinned. Tessa was a girl with many layers. On the surface, she appeared innocent, almost virtuous. But underneath, she was a wildcat.

Soft, wet kisses landed on his neck while her hand dipped into the waistband of his jeans. He sucked in a deep breath when she started to unbuckle his belt. When she dropped to her knees, his head fell back and a smile burst across his lips. There was that wildcat that he loved. Lifting his hips, she pulled his jeans down to his thighs, freeing his hard length from within the constraining jeans. She took him in her hand, then in her mouth. The silver tongue stud tapped against his most delicate area while her hands traveled over his inner thighs and touched him in places that made his eyes roll up into his head. He moaned, filled with want for this sweet headstrong girl who he loved more than anything. She was his all. The moon and the stars. The infinite sky.

He gripped the frame of the chair and pushed back with the heels of his feet as she continued to work her tongue over his shaft. The chair creaked from the pressure, but he didn’t care and leaned further back on its legs.

Tessa popped her head up with alarm. “Don’t break my chair! This set was a gift from my abuela and abuelo.”

The deep sigh at the sudden loss of her magnificent tongue turned into a short chuckle. “Get over here,” He pulled her up, kissed her and flashed a wide grin. “No offense, but I don’t want to hear about your grandparents right now.” He quickly stood up, with his hands under her buttocks to support her.

She wrapped her legs around his back and clung to his neck while emitting a whimsical laugh. “Let’s do it on the dinner table.”

“What?” He was about to take a step toward the bedroom, one arm underneath Tessa, the other hand holding up his jeans, but stopped.

“The table. We can think about it when we have people over. I’ll be our naughty little secret.”

  “There’s food on the table.”

“We’ll move it.” She squirmed out of his hold, pushed the plates and everything else to one side and sat on the edge of the table.

He gazed at her filled with want and quickly sat in the chair to remove his sneakers and eliminate his jeans. A pair of panties landed on his head, and then slid to the floor while he was still bent over at the waist, and he emitted a soft chuckle. When he straightened up, Tessa was before him completely naked. The smile slid off his face and the chuckle was replaced by an intake of breath. Her toned body and olive skin practically glowed. The light hit the silver barbells in her nipples and made them sparkle as she smiled down at him with allure. As his gaze washed over her body, it settled on her trim waist which was at eye level. He reached for her and placed a long languid kiss on her mid-section.

She melted under his touch and sighed as she pushed her fingers through his hair. “Oh, Mason. I love the way you make me feel. You make me forget about everything. The only thing I can think about is that you’re touching me and that you’re finally mine.”

His eyes shot up to meet hers, because that’s exactly how he felt. “You have no idea how much I love you,” he said, bringing his mouth to hers.

She leaned back with her hands on the table, opening her legs and arching her brow at him with provocation.

This time he’s the one who dropped to his knees. He roughly pulled her closer to the edge of the table, throwing her legs over his shoulders while his mouth fell between her thighs. He pulled the folds of her flesh open with his thumbs in order to reach the most intimate part of her body and rotated his tongue furiously over the little nub.

She dropped to her elbows and dug her heels into his back, panting and grinding her pelvis into his chin. Before long, she began to writhe and pant. Her cries spurred him on, making his erection grow and his momentum quicken. Grabbing a chunk of his short hair, she let out a long groan and climaxed. He felt her pulsating against his tongue while he relished in her wetness. He abruptly lifted his face and stood facing her.

She popped her head up from the table. “What’s wrong?”

“I’ve been meaning to tell you something.”

“Now? Can’t it wait?” She placed the heels of her feet on the edge of the table. “I think we’re in the middle of something.”

He shook his head. This was the perfect time. “No. I need to tell you right now,” he said as he stroked himself.

Her eyes dropped to his hand on his shaft and then slowly drifted back up to his eyes. She’s checking me out. He grinned. “I’m ditching the condoms. I had a test, and you said you haven’t been with anyone else. So, I’m ditching the condoms.”

“OK.” She said it matter-of-factly, unaware of how much it meant to him. How much it would enhance his pleasure. She’d started on birth control in anticipation of this moment, until he got to the doctor, but with so much going on, he never got around to it. Until now.

He took her by the waist, his large hands practically covering her petite frame, and pushed her to the center of the table. He climbed on top of her, his knees pressing painfully into the hard wood, but he never flinched. Anticipation had his heart galloping and his length hardening with excitement. He would be with the woman he loved without anything separating their bodies.

She was so fucking tight that every time they made love he almost came the moment he entered her. This time, without any sheathing, the sensations would be multiplied so he reminded himself to go slowly. He touched her entrance with his tip, immediately feeling an onslaught of tingling vibrations that made his head roll back and caused him to let out a deep sigh. He moved a little at a time, rocking his hips, allowing her body to pull him inside with a welcoming warmth that felt so fucking good.

He moaned, throwing his head back. Usually he waited for her to get used to his girth before he started pumping his hips, but this time it was him who needed to get used to bare flesh against bare flesh. He buried his face into the crook of her neck, his forehead hitting the unforgiving table. It broke his concentration enough so he could continue without climaxing immediately.

Tessa started gyrating against him, eager to consummate the unencumbered union of their bodies, and he groaned at the way she was making him feel. The way she moved, as if she couldn’t get enough of him, and her impatience, set his insides on fire. Everything she did was filled with enthusiasm and wit
hout restraint, including her lovemaking. She gave it her all, and his body reaped the rewards.

He moved in response to her needs, and she responded in a way that caused a rush of sensations to reverberate throughout his body. They were in tune with one another. They were a bassist and a drummer, in sync to the pulsating rhythm of the other’s body. Their harmonized movements fed the passion passing between them. His lower half tingled. His engorged shaft felt like a giant receptor, absorbing every impulse sent his way, be it from her body rubbing against him or the air filling his lungs. His nerve endings were hyper-sensitive, both from their unencumbered lovemaking and simply because of how much he loved her. It was all-consuming.

Her ankles locked behind his back and she hung onto his neck, flapping wildly. He didn’t need to move. She was running the show. A smile suddenly burst upon his lips. This girl took control in every situation, and he loved that about her. He straightened his arms and braced them on the table while pushing his hips forward, so he was buried deep inside her and let her take the reins. His head fell back, and his jaw tightened as he tried to restrain his orgasm, but couldn’t contain it. Euphoria ripped through him, causing him to let out a long guttural moan. His release filled her with a pulsating warmth and slickness, allowing their bodies to move together fluidly, and then he felt her inner muscles beating around his shaft with release.

Too spent to hold himself up any longer, he slowly lowered his body on top of her and kissed her.

She was out of breath and needed to break the kiss. “I can barely breathe,” she gasped.

“Me either,” he confessed, shifting onto the table next to her.

She rolled her head to the side and smiled through panting breaths. “Why are you smiling like that?”

“This was a first for me.”

She rolled over toward him and kissed the ball of his shoulder. “Having sex on the dining room table?”

He let out a short laugh, because that was true, but not what he was referring too. “Yeah. Actually it was.” He flashed his best grin. “But I meant that was the first time I didn’t use a condom.”

Her brow arched. “Really? I was your first?”

  He chuckled again. “Yeah.”

She wrapped her arm around him, rested her head on his shoulder and let out a contented sigh. “I’m glad. Because you were my first. My Last. My everything.”

Mason hung up the phone after a long, emotional conversation with both of his parents. He told them everything that had happened last night with Kendall. They had all cried. It was done, he told himself. Ready to put Kendall and the hurricane she brought with her behind him, he took a cleansing breath and put a smile on his face.

He found Tessa in the bathroom brushing her silky black hair. She smiled at him with affection and waited to see if he wanted to talk about the phone call with his parents. He didn’t. He took Tessa’s hand and kissed the third finger on her left hand. “I’m going to buy you the biggest diamond I can find and it’s going to be so brilliant that its sparkle will light up the sky brighter than the sun.”

Tessa’s smile stretched and reached her eyes. “You better.”

He laughed at her lack of modesty. She’d grown up with the best of everything, and he planned on upholding that tradition because nothing in the world was too good for her.

To aid his effort at being more romantic, he decided a morning walk on the sand before he took her to breakfast was the perfect way to start the day as an engaged couple. He breathed in the fresh ocean air when they exited the apartment building and turned his face up to the sun as they walked toward the beach. “It’s a beautiful day.”

Tessa was overflowing with happiness, with a bounce in her step and her face as bright as the sky. “That’s because we’re engaged.”

“It’s not official until I put a ring on it,” he joked, mimicking the talk show host who had interviewed Prodigy a few months ago and asked what it takes to snag America’s most sought-after bachelor. But Tessa wasn’t laughing. She wasn’t even smiling. She abruptly stopped walking and her face went blank. “What?” he asked. When she didn’t respond he followed her gaze to several yards in front of them and saw Kendall, two suitcases resting on the concrete at her feet. His blood rushed through his chest at the sight of her. “What the hell are you doing here?” he barked. “Haven’t you caused enough trouble?”

Kendall’s eyes filled with tears. “I know you hate me now. I feel absolutely awful. I want to explain. I want to tell you everything. I want to answer all the questions I know you must have. I’ll be completely honest. I swear it. Please. Let me say my peace. Then I’ll leave, and you’ll never have to see me again. I’ve been here for three hours waiting for you. I need to speak to you, and then I’ll go to the airport straightaway. Please, Mason. Just give me a few moments of your time.”

She had no right to ask him for anything, and he was fully prepared to tell her to fuck off, but he felt Tessa squeeze his hand.

“It’ll give you closure. Say what you have to say or ask whatever’s on your mind. You may not get this opportunity again. And, maybe she needs closure, too.”

After all the bullshit and the terrible manipulative things that Kendall had done to Tessa’s family, and to Tessa, she still had compassion for the woman. He realized Tessa was right. He had unfinished business with Kendall. He had questions and things he needed to say. “Go inside and wait for me upstairs. I don’t want her anywhere near you.”

“I’m fine, Mase, but if that’s what you—”

“It’s what I want. I should have protected you from her and I didn’t. She’s not getting a second chance.”

Tessa shook her head lightly, as if he was overreacting, but he had no idea what Kendall was capable of after he heard the things she’d done and found out that she’d trespassed onto the grounds of the Blade-Garcia mansion.

Tessa kissed his cheek and went inside. He waited until the doorman closed the door behind her before he faced Kendall. He almost asked her how she knew he was still here, worried she had camped out all night waiting for him, but then he realized he left his Lambo in the outdoor parking area on the side of the building last night. Unsure what exactly he wanted to say to her, he asked, “What do you want?”

She fiddled with a coin, turning it through her fingers. “Can we sit?” She motioned to the patio area in front of the apartment building, which had small groupings of tables and chairs.

Mason didn’t want to sit and chat. He wanted to hear whatever she had to say and be done with this woman once and for all.

“Please, Mason. Just let me have my say and I’ll never bother you again. I swear it.”

The pathetic, pleading tone of her voice somehow cut through the anger and resentment that hardened his heart and got through to him. He paused to look at her – really look at her. She wore the same designer trench coat that she wore on the first day he met her in the City, but the polished put together woman looked emotionally crippled. Her makeup was minimal, with no lipstick so she looked pale and gaunt. Her bloodshot eyes were swollen and heavy. Her hair, which was dyed black yesterday, looked as if she tried to bleach it back to blonde but the color was off. Instead of wearing it swept neatly back and away from her face, it hung in a loosely tied ponytail at the back of her neck, flyaways blowing every which way in the breeze.

He took a seat at one of the tables and waited.

Kendall let out a painful breath, as if it hurt to breathe, as she sat next to him. She didn’t look at him. Instead, she remained fixated on the object obscured in her hand. When she spoke, her voice was low and stressed. “I’ve thought I hit rock bottom many times in my life, but yesterday was a new low. Even for me. I honestly thought I’d never go back to the person I used to be. I thought that part of me was buried, never to resurface again.” Still looking downward, she shook her head. “I don’t know what happens to me when I’m around those people. They bring out the worst in me.”

Anger burned in Mason’s belly and
re-ignited a fire. He had no interest in listening to her make excuses or blame the people he loved for her behavior, and he rose to his feet. “Stop blaming everyone else for your actions.”

She looked up at him, eyes wild and panic covering her face as she fiercely clutched his arm, preventing him from leaving. “I take full responsibility. This was all my fault. It’s . . . it’s what happens to me when I’m around Angel.”

Mason sat back down, curious to find out about Kendall’s obsession with Angel and her hatred of Jessi. “What happens?”

She wiped her forehead, exasperated. “I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve loved him for as long as I can remember. He’s the only man I’ve ever loved. I’ve tried to put him out of my mind. I fooled myself into thinking I didn’t love him anymore.” She grimaced, despair crinkling her lips and forcing her cemented brow to crease slightly. “But I do.” Her voice cracked. “I love him completely. And love makes you do crazy things.” She blotted the corner of her eye with the tip of a manicured finger. “He never wanted me, no matter how hard I tried. We had so much in common from the moment we met. It was in voice class. The moment I laid eyes on him my heart thudded. I’m not exaggerating either.” She looked off into the distance, a dreamy smile now on her face. “His dark eyes smoldered from across the room. He was so handsome. He smiled, and I swear my legs got all wobbly. When he stood in the center of the room and sang for the first time . . .” She clutched one hand to her chest. “It took my breath away. We became instant friends. He helped me with my pitch and vocal exercises. I didn’t know why he needed classes. His voice was perfect. He was perfect. I fell for him, very quickly. But he wasn’t interested in me that way. He told me he was gay, which . . .” She paused as she searched her memory. “Which I guess was true, but it didn’t register. I guess I didn’t want to believe it. For some reason, I always thought he was bisexual. I’d seen him with many men, but never women. Not in that way. Kira and Audra were always around him like star-struck groupies. He adored them, which made me despise them, I’m afraid. Even though they were younger, and I knew he had no interest in them romantically, I still resented the attention he gave them. I wished he’d shown me one-tenth of the affection he showed them.” She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment and swallowed. “And then she showed up, and he started avoiding me. She came onto the scene with her brilliant ideas on how to promote the band and talented design skills.” Kendall let out a deep breath and painfully grimaced. She paused as she looked at Mason. “Jessi.” As if she needed to clarify who she was referring to. “Angel worshipped her. She flaunted her talent and her gorgeous husband who seduced Angel, and he fell right into her bed. I was mad with jealousy. I admit it. I was a lunatic. I drank and did drugs, and I was compulsive. I did some very stupid things. Terrible things. Things I’m very ashamed of.” She lowered her head and a lone tear streamed down her cheek. “When I saw Tessa, I lost all control of my senses. Everything came flooding back. The love I had for Angel and how differently I wished my life had turned out. I thought to myself, this could be my daughter. Our daughter. Mine and Angel’s. I wanted it to be true so badly that I started to believe she could love me like a mother if I showed her how much I cared about her.”
