Forever Young (The Forever Land Chronicles)

I thought back to my meeting with Huron which had occurred just the day before the memorial. After telling me that I had effectively passed the equivalent of a field trial, he presented me with my own battle axe that he had commissioned to be made. He had apparently started on it as soon as he saw my affinity was for the axe. I blushed when he told me he was so confident in my abilities and that I would pass the field trial that he had no qualms about having a weapon made for me.

The axe was a work of art. The handle was wrapped in supple, black leather with gray stitching. The end of the axe had a solid silver point that could be used to stake daimons. The blade was etched with runes and decorated with beautiful scroll work. The peen was thick and solid...handy for crushing daimon skulls.

When I asked Huron what the runes meant, he said they were in the language of the Fae. They symbolized strength, perseverance and sympathy. I immediately got why he chose strength and perseverance, but the sympathy seemed out of place.

When I asked him about it, he told me, "It is your sympathy for the human race that will fuel you to fulfill your destiny. Without it, you have no reason to battle the enormous odds that will be against us all."

His premonition was both scary and comforting at the same time.

My thoughts were broken as I felt a hand grasp mine and I was brought back to Davis' memorial. I didn't have to look to know it was Caiden who had slipped up beside me. He squeezed and I squeezed back in response. I thought perhaps Huron should have inscribed my blade with Caiden's name. He was as much a source of strength for me as anything. I glanced back over and saw Jimmy watching us. He did nothing more than nod his head at me and turned his attention back to the service.

As the sun set low, I listened as Bashir talked about Davis' sacrifice for the Alliance. He spoke of dark days to come and the need for the Alliance to band together in strength and unity. He never mentioned me as the Savior, which I was extremely grateful for. I had yet to talk to him about the prophecy and what it meant for me.

I felt someone grasp my other hand and I looked to the side to see Emerson standing there. She gave me a smile and I squeezed her hand back. Justas was standing beside her, with Dane, Payton and Ben just behind. I looked at each of them and they returned my looks with determined intensity. They were all in this fight with me. My heart swelled with the sudden realization that I truly was not alone. I was surrounded by friends that would lay their lives down beside mine in the quest to make sure that good overcame evil.

They would be ready. I would be ready. For whatever was coming.

If you enjoyed Forever Young as much as I enjoyed writing it, it would mean a lot for you to give me a review on Amazon.
