The funeral was sad, but beautiful. So many family and friends went up, and shared wonderful things about Mr. Johnson. Jason, Kay and Angel said their goodbyes. They were headed back home.

  Chapter Three

Kay walked into her office to find two-dozen red roses on her desk. She walked over to her desk smiling, and sat. She pulled opened the little envelope.

“Thank you for being you, Love J.”

The card was simple, but meant so much. After her parents died, she never felt like she belonged until she met Jason. She finally felt home, like the missing piece of her jigsaw puzzle was found, Jason completed it. She called him, but his secretary told her that he was in a meeting with a client. Kay asked her if he had any more appointments.

His secretary hesitated, and then said no.

“Thank you, Susan. Have a nice day.” She never really liked his temp secretary. There was something about the woman’s tone of voice, her cool, efficient manners that felt extra-cool whenever Kay was around. She got up from her desk, picked up her purse, and walked out her office. She turned to her assistant. “I’ll be back in about two hours. I have a really important meeting.”

Miriam looked up from typing on her keyboard. “But you don’t have any appointment in your calendar.”

“Something came up at the last minute. Bye, Miriam.” She walked to the elevator with a smile. She walked to her car, and headed home to change clothes.

  ***

Kay hurried down the corridor to Jason’s corner office, hoping against hope Susan would be off making copies, or taking dictation, or filing something, or whatever it was that filled her time. No such luck. Susan was at her desk, her thin lips pressed tight together as she stacked Manila folders into an even tighter pile on the blotter. The younger woman stood up defensively the moment she saw Kay’s approach. “Is Mr. Anderson alone?”

“Yes. Let me tell him you’re here.”

Kay ignored her, and walked toward Jason’s door. “Hold all his calls and push back any appointments he may have.” She turned and opened the door to his office.

Jason kept typing away at his computer. “I told you—” He looked up.

Kay opened her coat. Under her coat, she was wearing a black lacy bra, Cheekies, and black pumps. He was speechless and smiled. “Damn, woman.” He said eating her with his eyes.

She locked the door, and walked toward him seductively. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her.

“I’m made from the finest chocolate on earth,” she said with a naughty smile. Kay strolled over to him and sat on his lap. “Thank you for the flowers.”

Jason was speechless. Kay had never done anything like this before, but then again she had always been spontaneous. That’s one of the things he loved about her. She bent down and nibbled on his ear, followed by feather kisses. The second she kissed him he became aroused.

The phone kept buzzing and she stopped kissing him, and stared. Jason hit the ignore button, and turned off the ringer. He grabbed her waist, and pulled her on his lap. Now straddling him, she smiled. “I thought you would be mad at me for coming to your office unannounced.”

“I would never get mad at you looking like this, my Nubian queen.” He kissed her breast. “I needed a distraction.” He noticed her breast were a bit fuller. He took off her bra, and gently sucked on each of her Hershey’s-kiss nipples, he couldn’t get enough of them. She moaned, trying to keep quiet. His gentle kisses turned passionate. She pulled back and planted little kisses on his neck. He got up, and cleared his desk, pushing everything out his way. He picked her up, and laid her down on his desk. He started kissing her from her breast to her navel. When he noticed her stomach was a bit fuller. She’s on birth control, he thought. He kissed his way back to her mouth. He stopped, and stared at her. “Kay, what would I do without you?”

She caressed his cheek. “You will never find out.”

He leaned in and kissed her. He took off her Cheekies, and then he unbuttoned and unzipped his pants, letting them fall to his ankles. He turned her around with her ass turned to him. He settled in between her thighs, bent down and kissed her ass cheeks. He stood up, and pushed himself deep inside her wet, awaiting pussy. They both moaned in ecstasy, he kissed her back and neck.

  “Do you like that baby?”

“Yeah.” She said between whispered moans.

They tried to swallow their moaning, as he thrust into her in slow motion. Savoring the feeling of ecstasy, his strokes became faster and harder. He loved the way her body reacted to his, the way she moaned every time he touched her. He could feel her about to cum. He pulled back and gently tugged on her hair. He thrust into her one more time, and her pussy started pulsating. He leaned her up a bit and kissed her swallowing her screams of ecstasy. He didn’t last much longer, as he grunt his teeth and came deep in her. He planted sweet kisses all over her back, and pulled out. He helped her up, pulled his pants back up, and helped her with her coat. He walked to his private bathroom, got some tissue and cleaned her up.

“Why didn’t you tell me sending you flowers at work would grant me an office visit?” He took her hand and walked back over to his desk and sat down.

“Sometimes I have to spice it up. Make sure you know what you have at home.” She leaned down and kissed him. “Turn your phone back on, before Susan has a stroke.” She turned up the volume.

He grabbed her wrist. “I know what I have at home.”

She helped him pick up his papers of the floor and fix his desk. “I don’t think your secretary likes me. I miss Mrs. Martha, I wished she hadn’t retired.”

“Why do you think that?” he said grabbing and kissing the palm of her hand.

“Forget it, I’m just being silly.”

  “Kay”

  “Yes.”

“Have you ever thought of us having another baby?” he said staring in her brown eyes.

“Where did that come from?” she said cupping his face, leaning on his desk.

“It’s just something I’ve been thinking about. Are you going to give an answer?”

“Of course I want to have another baby one day.”

“One day.” He said a little disappointed.

“I didn’t mean it like that baby. If you want us to try, I have to stop taking birth control, and it can take months before I get pregnant.”

He held her hand. “Stop taking them.”

“Are you sure?” she lifted his hands to her cheeks.

“Yes, I’m sure. I think it’s time.” He kissed her

She smiled. “Okay. I have to go see a doctor and make sure everything is okay. I have to go back to work. Can we finish talking about this later?”

He got up and followed her out of his office. “I’ll walk you to your car.”

“Mr. Anderson you have Mr. Davidson on line one, I tried buzzing you,” Susan said with irritation in her voice.

He turned to her. “He can wait. I’ll be right back.” They entered the elevator.

He walked Kay to her car, kissed her. “I love you doll eyes.”

She hugged him. “I love you too, see you later.”

She jumped into her car and drove off.

He walked back to the building, smiling.

  Chapter Four

Jason made it home around six. He was eager to see Kay after the lunch delight she’d given him, and he also wanted to continue their conversation about having another baby. Today had been a long day, after she left, his mother’s lawyer, Mr. Brown, came to his office and handed him the trust papers for Angel and any other kids he may have in the future. Other documents referenced the proceeds from the sale of his grandfather’s house. Mr. Brown reminded him of his grandfather, the way he began giving him thoughtful advice and at that moment he missed the weekly conversation he used to have with his grandfather.

He opened the door and noticed his girls weren’t home yet. He checked his cell phone to see if he’d missed any calls from Kay, but he had no missed calls.
Jason headed to the bathroom and took a shower, hoping that by the time he was finished they would be home, but when he finished and got dressed, they were still not home. He stepped into the kitchen, and made himself a sandwich. When he looked up at the clock, it was eight o’clock. He called Kay’s cell phone and it went straight to voice mail, he left a message. “Baby, call me when you get this message.” He hung up and called his mother.

  “Hello,” Mrs. Anderson answered.

  “Mom, is Angel with you?”

“Yes, she is. The pre-school called, because it was six o’clock and Kay hadn’t picked her up yet.”

  “I’ll come get her.”

“It’s okay sweetie, she can stay with us. We’re watching The Lion King.” She said giggling with Angel. “Is something wrong, I’ve been trying to call Kay, but it goes straight to voicemail?”

“I think she might have had to work late today. I think it was my turn to pick her up.” He didn’t want to worry his mother. “I’ll pick her up in the morning. Bye Mom, I love you.” He hung up, and called Amy, Kay’s co-worker.

  “Hello.” Amy answered.

“Hey Amy, did Kay have to work late today?”

“Kay didn’t come back to work after her lunch appointment. She told Miriam she had a very important meeting and would be back, but she never showed.”

He knew he was her lunch appointment. “Thank you Amy.”

  “What’s wrong?”

“She didn’t pick up Angel, and she isn’t home yet, usually she calls and let me know. It might be nothing.”

“If I hear from her, I’ll let her know you’re looking for her.”

“Thanks.” He said before he hung up.

  ***

Jason was more than worried, he looked up at the clock, and it was now nine thirty. He was pacing, when the phone rang. He didn’t even bother looking at the caller ID. “Kay, where are you?”

“Jason it’s not Kay, its Mom.” Mrs. Anderson said, “Kay has been admitted to Memorial Hospital.”

“What?” before she could answer he hung up the phone, grabbed his keys and was out the door.

  ***

Mrs. Anderson arrived at the nurses’ station, and was led to Kay’s room. Kay looked up and dropped her face in embarrassment. Her left eye was swollen, she had a cut on her forehead, her neck had handprints around it, and her arms, legs and ribs were bruised. Mrs. Anderson walked over and hugged her. “Sweet heart, what happened?”

Kay slightly pulled away shaking, and whispered. “He tried to rape me. Why did he hurt me?” Tears running down her cheeks.

Mrs. Anderson tried to hug her, but she began shaking uncontrollably and pulled away. She cupped her face and with her fingertips, wiped her tears.

“Kay, who tried to rape you?” she asked.

  Jason entered the room.

Kay knew he’d heard what his mother asked her. He stared at her and his eyes tear up. The moment he leaned forward to walk over to her, she spoke.

“Jason,” she said slowly, “please leave. Don’t look at me.”

He stared at her with a hurt expression on his face. “Kay?”

She looked away from him, feeling ashamed.

Jason didn’t know what to do. The idea that he would leave was ridiculous. But how could he comfort her? He had no idea.

His mom got up and walked over to him. “Jason, wait outside.”

He didn’t move, just stared at Kay, asking her with his eyes to change her mind, but she wouldn’t even look in his direction.

The nurse returned to the room. “Sir, she is still in shock. Please wait outside.” She escorted him to the door.

When he left the room Jason broke down. Moments later, with barely a coherent thought, he punched the wall. “I’m going fucking kill whoever did this.”

He could still see the handprints on her neck, the bruises on her arms. He could only imagine where else.

He remembered the last time Tommy had beat her. He hadn’t been there for her then and he wasn’t there for her now.

A police officer approached her room. Jason stepped into his path. “What happened?

The police officer turned. “Who are you?”

  “I’m Jason Anderson, Kay’s husband.”

The officer took him aside. “Sir, your wife was attacked.”

  “Obviously. Where did it happen?”

“Sir, you will have to ask your wife. I can’t give you any more information.”

“Look, at least…did he rape her?” Jason shoved his left hand in his pocket.

“No, sir, there’s no evidence of that. Seems like he didn’t have time. We’ll try everything we can to find him.” The policeman patted Jason’s shoulder before turning to enter the room.

“You better make sure I don’t get my hands on him, because I’ll kill him,” Jason said, rubbing his hands together.

The officer paused and turned back. “I’m going to act like I didn’t hear that. I have to finish getting your wife’s statement. Excuse me.”

As the man went in, Jason’s mom came out of the room and hugged him. “Son, she just needs some time. She feels like she let you down.”

“Why would she think that?” he asked, running his fingers through his hair.

“Because she feels like she asked for it, the way she was dressed. I tried to explain to her that she didn’t.”

“She was dressed the way she was because of me. Mom, if I find out who attack her before they do, he’ll regret ever touching her.” Jason said with anger.

“Jay, please let the police handle this. She doesn’t need you to get yourself put in jail. She's going to need you to help her get through this. It may not be a rape, but that doesn’t change the fact that he violated her. She called me because she needed a mom, someone who would understand and feel what she’s feeling, but she needs you even if she doesn’t see it now.”

Jason shifted from foot to foot.

The officer stepped out of her room and left, his mom went back in to comfort Kay. After a while his mom came back out.

“She’s asleep now. I held her until she fell asleep. Jason, be gentle and patient with her. She needs you now more than ever.”

He hugged his mother and entered his wife’s room. He walked up to her bed and whispered. “I love you, Kay.” He leaned down, kissed her forehead, and sat down, entwining his fingers with hers. He couldn’t believe someone would do this to her, and whoever had done it would pay.

A few minutes later, she started screaming. “NO! Don’t touch me! Please don’t hurt me!”

He stood up and hugged her. “Kay, it’s me.”

She pulled away from him. “No….” After a moment, she realized it was Jason and jumped into his arms. “I’m so sorry. I should’ve gone home to change instead of stopping at the gas station.”

“Baby, you didn’t do anything wrong.” He pulled back to look into her eyes.

“Jason, I thought he was going to kill me,” she said, with tears rolling down her cheeks.

“Baby, he didn’t, but he is going to pay for what he did to you. I will kill him with my bare hands. I’ve told you before no one hurts’ you and gets away with it.”

“Jason, promise me that you’ll let the police handle this, please. Promise me.” She placed her hands under his chin.

He stared at her and could tell she knew he was lying. “I’ll let the police handle it.” He took her hand and kissed it. “Can you tell me what happened?”

She stopped staring at him, lowered her head. “When I went to the gas station to fill up, I noticed this weird guy looking at me. First I thought it was because I was wearing a coat, but he had a strange look on his face.” She paused, trying to get her words together. “I felt something was wrong so I turned to leave.” She began to take a deep breath before continuing. “When I was about to get into my car, someone else grabbed me and told me not to scream. He pulled out a gun, and pushed me to the back. He punched me a couple of times, when I fought back, and then h
e started touching me.” She turned and continued crying.

“Kay, look at me. Nothing you tell me will change how I feel about you.”

“He placed his gun in the back of his pants and grabbed my neck. I could hardly breathe. He looked at me and said, ‘Bitch, you’re going to pay.’” He tried to kiss me, but I bit him. I kept moving and fighting him off. He hit me a couple more times. That’s when he tore my coat open.”

Jason’s breathing got heavy. He balled his left hand into a fist, but tried to control his anger.

“Jason,” she said, crying uncontrollably. “He touched me.”

Jason stopped her from speaking. “Kay, you don’t have to continue.”

“He almost raped me.” He pulled her into a tight hug. She whispered. “He grabbed my arms, pinning me against the wall. He…hit my ribs and forcefully removed my underwear.” She took a deep breath. “He was seconds from raping me when the gas attendant came running with a bat. She hit him on his back and he dropped to the ground. By the time the cops came, he’d already left, he’d jumped into the car with the other guy.”

He looked down at her. “You got attacked because of me. If I hadn’t sent you those damn flowers, you wouldn’t have been there.”

She cupped his face. “This is not your fault, it could have happened anytime.”

“I feel like I’m never there when you need me the most. First Tommy now this.”

“Don’t think like that. You’ve always been my hero, you can’t be with me twenty-four-seven. I’m okay. What doesn’t break us makes us stronger.”

The doctor knocked on the door and walked in. “How are you feeling, Mrs. Anderson?”

“Much better now that my husband is here.” She forced a smile.

“You have a small concussion, and a bruised rib. Are you still feeling pressure in your abdomen?” he asked.

“Yes, but it doesn’t hurt as much. It might have been when he slammed me against wall.” She looked at him, curious.
