John says yes general but looks surprised at his request. William looks over at his father and whispers General Sir why are you getting Savannah she is to stay safe in the room as we agreed on.

The General replies Son if he wants Savannah let him have her. William not liking what he hears grows angry but continues to listen to what his father has to say before reacting. If he feels something is a miss he may leave and we lose our chance to win this war. She will be well protected with you john and I watching over her from our positions. I promise you nothing will happen to her. William does not like it but agrees to go along with it. John returns down stairs with Savannah who walks over to William’s father and says yes What can I do. The General tells Savannah go answer the door and do not let on we are here.

Lure him in and act as if you have interest in him. Savannah looks over at William and he nods his head telling Savannah it is ok to go ahead with the new plan. Savannah walks over to the door and opens it. Well hello General she says. The Southern General says Miss Savannah my beauty. I have come here due to I have heard from my scout that the Northern General and his men will be arriving here soon and I have come to protect you from them. Savannah smiles and says Well General that is very kind of you but you need not fret for I am well protected here on my own.

The General chuckles and says Yes my dear I am sure you could take care of your self but I could not sit by and not do anything. May I come in he asks Savannah. Savannah looks over at the horse and says sure please come in. The Southern General enters the home and Savannah closes the door behind him. Savannah says may I take your hat General. Ah, yes thank you my dear. Now all the while the William and john and the northern general are watching from behind closed doors and corners of the other rooms.

The northern general tells john in hand single to go to the window and single his men to take the other down quietly as possible. John nods his head and silently goes to do so. John arrives out side to the first soldier close to the house and says to pass along the order the General wants the men to surround the southern troupes and capture them with out a fight. The solider says yes sir and goes silently to tell thee others of their orders. Meanwhile back in the house the southern general sits down on the chair and asks Savannah if she has heard or seen anything unusual lately. Savannah replies no general it has been very quiet here since you last visited.

  Chapter 10

The Southern General asks where her servant is Miss Lucy. Savannah replies she is to fetching some water. She goes on to ask if he would like something to drink the southern general agrees. Savannah says she will be right back with his tea. Savannah walks away into the kitchen where William and his father and john join her. John stands in the corner watching the southern general as he listens to what is being said. William says I do not like the fact Savannah is in the range of the southern general. I feels it isn’t safe for her .William’s father tells him if Savannah can keep him occupied long enough for us to take out his troupes with out battle, then we can capture him while he is off guard and this will be over without any lose of men on either side. He goes on to say that with the three of them watching over her nothing can happen to her.

John says General Sir are sure this plan will work to our benefit? The General says yes it will. He tells Savannah Go back in and continue to engaged him in conversation my dear. Keep him talking as long as you can and try to keep his focus upon you and away from the windows and door. William still a bit angry about all this says He disapproves greatly to all this but if Savannah agrees to it he will go along with the plan. Savannah looks over at William and grabs his hand she says William you know how I feel and I want to help end this war as peaceful as possible With you john and your father watching over me I know I am in good hands please she says let me help .

William thinks for a second and says yes ok just please be safe. Savannah says she will, kisses William on the lips, picks up the glass of tea, and begins to go back inside with the southern general. Meanwhile upstairs Lucy is worried and praying that all will be ok. Lucy says to herself I hope they know what’s they doing I worry for Miss Savannah and all of them. She goes on to say the air is a bit thicker then it was and smell of the sweetness is faint. I only hope this all works out for the best. Lucy then curls up into a ball on the soft quilted floor and closes her eyes to pray.

Meanwhile the northern troops are getting their orders group by group to slowly move in upon the southern army and capture them with out a fight and to do so quietly. The northern troops begin to move closer to the road where the southern army is standing waiting for their own orders from their general. The one solider who has not given up and has been loyal this whole time says to the younger solider by his side. That he feels something bad about to happen. He tells him we need to inform thee others about what is going on. The young soldier says I agree Sir.

The soldier goes to the back of the line and tells the southern troops to huddle around him. He begins to tell them that the General has lost his mind and is not thinking straight. He knows that the southern general is leading them to there deaths. He tells them to think about it do they really want to die today or would they rather return home to their families. The men look around at one another and one speaks up Well I for one think if what you say is to be true then I agree we need to just protect our self’s.

Another soldier speaks out I too agree we need to rethink this. The southern general has done nothing but lead us around by the nose and most of the others have already left to return to their homes. The men agree. The head soldier tells them. We will stay for a bit longer and then one by one we shall leave quietly while the southern general is inside with the miss Savannah. Each soldier agrees to this. The head soldier tells them wait for my hand single to act upon this plan. The all say yes sir and get back in formation.

Meanwhile back inside the scout for the northern general has over heard this plan and returns to the kitchen where the General and William and john are and tell them of what he has learned. The General tells him to get the word to thee others that if they see the southern men leave allow them to unless they happen to come upon them in hiding then to do nothing but if they are fond to capture the southern men in quiet. The scout agrees and goes to tell thee others of the new plan.

William says to his father, This is working to our advantage even his own troop’s wont stand behind him. The General says yes it is a blessing. William and john see the look of worry upon his face and ask Sir what is wrong? The General says If his own men are willing to leave him for their own sakes what does that say about the General. It tells me he is not in his right mind and that could be very dangerous not just to us but to Savannah as well. William says what we just sent her back into him alone. The General says no William we are watching her and will deploy upon him at first sign of trouble William does not like it but agrees.

John tells him not to worry we will make sure she is protected. The General says ok now we wait, watch, and see what happens next. Meanwhile back inside the living room Savannah hands the southern general his drink. He takes a sip and says ah thank you my dear it is exactly what I needed Come sit beside me s we can talk for a bit Savannah a bit nervous walks over to the chairs and sit beside the southern general. The southern general takes another sip of his tea, while thinking to himself; she likes me to sit here. Once we have chatted for a while she will see what a great man I am and want to marry me and after I take out the Yankees, she wil
l be overwhelmed with love for me not being able to turn down my marriage proposal.

Savannah sits next to the General and watches him sip his tea she moves closer to the edge of the chair as she does the southern general says My dear don’t be shy come here and sit closer to me I have much to talk to you about. Savannah not sure what to do nods her head and decides to move close to him. The southern general says My dear I have not stop thinking about you since our first meeting. I find you are beauty radiant and I feel you would make a fine wife one day. Savannah gets a bit angry at what she hears and stands up. As she walks over to the table where the teapot is she says

Well thank you for you are compliment General very kind of you. You say I would make a fine wife one day to whom? The Southern general gets up and says Well my dear I was hoping to me. Savannah looks over at him and raises an eyebrow she say You think I would marry you General? Why? The southern general replies Well my dear I am a strong man who leads by example and can take care of you for the rest of you’re days and protect you from harm from the Yankees. Savannah smiles and says Oh but my dear General what makes you think I need protections from them? And What makes you think I need taking care of? The Southern General getting a bit perturbed with Savannahs answers walks over to her and grabs her hand.

Meanwhile William, John and his father are watching very closely from the kitchen and hearing all that is being said. John says to William well she is really pushing his buttons. William says yes I see that I just hope she knows what she is doing. William’s father says You have one feisty women their son and she knows what she is doing you have to trust her son. John says and if it looks like any harm is about to come to her we will move in and take him down before she can get hurt. William says I hope we are quick enough I just do not like this at all and wished it could be done a different way. William’s father says I understand son but there was not any other way and Savannah is a bright women who has proven she can take care of herself with us to make sure of it. William thinks to him self I hope you are right father because I do not know if I could bare losing her.

Meanwhile back in the living room the southern general say to Savannah You are a southern bell who need not worry about men’s work and yes why I am sure you can take care and protect you’re self ,the General chuckles , A women always needs someone to watch over her. Savannah more angry then before jerks her hand from the southern general and walks over to the door to the kitchen and says General I am not a women who needs a man to take care of her and I am not a frail flower. I am a southern woman who is excessively to much of a woman for the likes of you. The Southern general now angered by her reaction walks over to her and grabs at her pulling her over to the chair sitting her down.

William ready to jump out from behind the door is grab back by his father and john. He says what are you two doing she need help there. John says no William watch and see you need not react with your heart or you could get her killed. William’s father says look out there what do you see William looks out the door and sees the southern general standing next to Savannah who is sitting in the chair and he spots the southern generals pistol. William says this is not good she needs us and here we sit. The Northern general says if we go out there now he could as easily grab his pistol and put Savannah in harms way we have to wait for the right moment to attack him. John says I agree with your father William we cannot go rushing in there gives it a bit more time. William says I do not like this at all and let it fall on your head if she dies.

Meanwhile back in the living room the southern general lets Savannah’s wrist go and say I do not like your tone with me my dear. Here I am opening my heart to you and you mark me and make factor that you need no one. This displeases me my dear. I know you are nicer then that. Savannah sits and looks up at the southern general and says General I apologize if I have offend you in anyway that wasn’t my intension I was merely stating that I have been alone for a long time now and have never need to count on another for much except for my companion Lucy. The Southern general says Yes ok my dear I understand so this mean you will accept my proposal to marry me? Savannah in the mix of things has also noticed the General is wearing a loaded pistol at his side and is thinking of a way to get it from him or at least distract him so that William john and his father can come out and take the General down.

The southern general says Well My dear what is your answer? Savannah looks up at the southern general and says May I think about it for a bit you have overwhelmed me with such an offer a girl needs a moment to think shall I fetch more tea first before I answer you General. The southern general pauses and say Yes that would be fine a nice cup of tea and a wonderful answer from my bride to be sounds good to me. Savannah says Yes General it sounds great I shall return in a moment do not go away. The southern general says Oh my dear I am not going anywhere.

Savannah walks over picks up the tea set and smiles softly at the southern general and goes into the kitchen. The moment she is through the door William grabs onto her and holds her tight He says to her are you ok? Savannah says yes my love I am. John and the Northern general say you sure Savannah at the same time. Savannah shakes her head yes and walks over to get another pot of tea. William says you cannot go back out there with that crazy man. He is wearing a pistol at his side you could be hurt. Savannah looks at William and touches his cheek with her hand and states My love I will be ok he is doing me no harm and when the time is right you and john and you’re father can take him down.

The Northern General says Savannah we all worry he is crazy and could hurt you we could move in now and take him out. Savannah replies No please wait for the right time you will know when that is and let me get back to him before her comes looking for me please. William doesn’t want to let her go but John tells him that she knows what she is doing and she will be alright he swears it to him William shakes his head yes and allows her to go back to the living room. William tells his father you had better know when to and hope she does not get hurt.

Meanwhile outside the southern general’s troops are beginning to leave one by one. The northern army is quietly watching them go off in different directions head back to their families. The head soldier say to the younger soldier who came back that he too feels this is the end and he just wishes it did not end this way. The younger soldier says why don’t we just stay here until we see he is ok and all is well with him and Savannah just to be sure.

The head soldier agrees and they sit on the tree stumps near the house waiting. The northern general army is carefully watching to make sure all the southern troops are gone and those posted near the house are watching the two soldiers that have decided to stick it out until the end. One northern soldier says to another if either of them move to cause any trouble or get in the way take them out. The other soldier says no problem as he continues to watch them closely.

Savannah returns to the living room and places the tea set down on the oak table near the far window. She says Well here we are general nice hot tea with some honey in it. The southern general say Ah thank you Savannah the tea is great now come sit next to me here my dear and lets talk some more. Savannah reluctant to do so picks up her beautiful china pattern teacup and slowly walks over to the southern general and sits beside him. The General puts down his cup of tea on the oak wood table in front of them and turns towards Savannah grabbing her left hand he say Now my dear I have asked you a question before you left to fetch more tea you said you would respond when you returned I await to hear you’re answer my dear.

Savannah looks at the southern general, pulls her hand away, gets up off the beautiful velvet couch, and walks over to the tea set. Savannah says General your proposal has thrown me a bit and I really do not want to give an answer in haste. I wish you would give me more time to answer you. The southern general gets up, walks over to Savannah, and says my dear I have come far and given up much to come back to you just to hear your sweet voice say yes to my marriage proposal. I will not accept anything less. Savannah now turns to
the General and says well I am sorry general but you might have to wait for an answer I do not take kindly to you’re rushing me this is a big step for a girl.

The southern general chuckles and says Come, Come my dear I am the perfect man to be your husband. Savannah smiles as if though she has a plan she say ok general come sit and lets drink our tea and tell me why you make the perfect husband maybe that will bring you an answer from me faster. The southern general agrees and walks back over to the couch and sits besides Savannah and sips upon his tea.

Meanwhile in the kitchen John William and his father watch from behind the door and they slowly close it for a moment. The Northern general stands up and says she is up to something but what? William says I know I have seen the same look in her eyes before. She has a plan and we have not a clue of what it is. John walks over to get a glass of water he looks down to where Savannah set the tea up for her and southern general. John notices a little glass jar he picks it up and looks it over and notices something strange about it. He opens the glass jar and finds finely grinded white powder in it. He takes it over to William and his father and says Look at what I have found here next to the teapot. William takes hold of the glass jar and looks it over before he can say anything his father grabs it and says sleeping powder. William have you ever noticed this before. William replies Yes she used to give me a bit with tea each night I was in pain so I could sleep as much as I could while I was recovering. John says that vixen she drugged the southern general she is going to put him to sleep and then we can over throw him.
