“Sorry,” she squeaked.
“So who’s the new girl?” one of the men asked.
“Her name is Alyssa. I found out that Ivy was starting some drama with some of the people that I was trying to hire, including her. I then learned that Ivy had other intentions as well.
While I regret that I had to let her go, I decided to let things go the way they needed to, and from there, I choose to just let Ivy go to another place and I replaced her with Alyssa. Alyssa has way more qualifications as well,” he told the other men.
“That’s impressive,” Neil said.
Travis nodded, staring at Alyssa who was blushing profusely.
“You’re telling me. I had no clue how I was going to replace the girl, but Alyssa stepped up. This is her first day, and I’ll be keeping her as my transcriptionist today. She’ll be taking notes of everything we need to go over, and if she has any input, she’s pretty to include it,” the man said.
Wait, she would be able to have a say in a few things? That sounded pretty amazing, and she wondered how in the world it was going to work out for her. Would she even be able to contribute to this sort of discussion? She wondered.
“All right. Let’s get started,” Travis stated.
Alyssa agreed, sitting down on the seat next to him. She looked over at him, realizing just how attractive he was.
He was very pretty, and just looking at him at the moment was enough to entrance her. But what interested her more than anything were the words, and they were ones that she had never heard him speak.
“Okay everyone, so the first order of business is how our company is doing. I hope to god that we fixed that marketing bug this month, right Clarence?” he told the man.
“Yes sir. I managed to get that all figured out. I realized that the best thing to be doing would be to just stick with the internet marketing rather than paper marketing. Also, the stocks of the company are doing excellent as well, signifying that they will only increase over time,” he told Travis.
“Wonderful, now let’s move onto the fun shit. Like money, let’s go over the facts and figures for this month. Remember the rule of confidentiality, if you say something here, it’s not to be spoken to anyone else. That goes for you too Alyssa,” he told her.
Alyssa blushed, but nodded. He wasn’t really the cool and collected dude that she was used to, but rather he was a serious man, one who didn’t take shit from anyone.
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” she replied. She was a bit bummed that she would have to leave this portion of the story out of the picture, but it made sense to be doing so.
“Good. Then let’s talk about the business accounts,” he ordered.
They started to talk about money, and he urged her to start taking down notes. Alyssa was listening to this, but it sounded almost like listening to them speak a foreign language.
There was a lot of talk about subjects she wasn’t used to, and her furiously writing down everything that was being said. She looked over at Travis, and he smiled.
“Well now onto the easier topics. Good to know that the stocks have only had a small bit of a dip in the last couple of days but are fine,” he told them.
“That’s right sir. So what’s next? We went over marketing and other such facets, but we would like to know what’s next,” Clarence stated.
“Well, I do have this gala coming up. I know we’re all invited to it, but I was wondering if maybe we could arrange a few meetings with some of our competitors.
I know that Roy will be there, and we’ve been talking about merging for a while, and I was thinking about bringing it up again,” he told them.
“Are you sure about that sir? I mean Roy is a bit of a hardass when it comes to that sort of thing, and he rarely talks at parties,” one of the men said.
“Well I’m sure he would be okay with talking to me. The two of us are old friends, and I’ll have Alyssa assist me as well,” he stated.
Alyssa practically shot up at the mention of her name. What the hell was he talking about? She was so confused. This was definitely getting out of hand, and it made her wonder just what in the world was going to happen next.
“What do you mean?” she asked him.
“Didn’t you hear me? You’re coming to this party, and I need you to stick with me. I have some business with this man, and you will be playing a vital role in the execution of this plan,” he told her.
She was so confused. What the hell did she have to do with this? It made almost no sense at all, but she nodded.
“I guess. What am I going to do?” she asked him.
He glanced at her, almost as if she didn’t understand what he was implying yet. But then, he nodded.
“Well every year there’s this gala that we have at my estate where people related to my business, and other well-known individuals, come to the place and we discuss things.
The only thing that you will be doing for me is assisting me in these business transactions. I have an entire crew hired for this event, and I can assure you it’s one of the biggest parties in the area. You have probably heard of this event on the news, but it’s rarely covered as more than just an entertainment piece. But, I have a reason for these events.
These events draw in people, and these people are the types that I wants to talk about working with, or securing deals if we’re competitors. I know that most of them will be willing to speak for a little while, and it might be in our best interest to do so,” he explained to Alyssa.
“So it’s kind of like a giant business party?” she asked. This seemed like such a strange thing to be putting on.
“Yes, and I will personally make sure you’re accounted for as well. Your job will be to start scheduling appointments with these people outside of the gala, and make sure that I don’t spend more than an hour with them unless it’s Roy. Roy is a sneaky bastard and needs two hours instead.
At eleven, I start to retire for the night, and I relax after that. So if you put in about five meetings, that will suffice,” he told Alyssa without any second thoughts.
This sounded so insane. So this party would be how he converses with people? It seems like something that was unlike anything she had ever heard before? It definitely was not what she was expecting.
“Well I guess I can get something ready,” she explained.
“Great. I will be discussing this matter with you later as well after we conclude the meeting. If you guys have anything else to say, do so or forever hold your peace,” he told them.
The men just talked about a few little things but after that, they were done. Alyssa was overwhelmed by all of this, but after the guys left, he turned to her, placing his hand against her own in a comforting manner.
“I could tell that you’re overwhelmed. Don’t you worry though, because I will make sure that you do your job right. Even if I have to make sure it happens personally, I don’t really care,” he explained to her.
Alyssa nodded, feeling a bit strange herself. She couldn’t believe that he chose her of all people to help out with this. She didn’t know the first thing about parties, much less a party of this size and scope.
“I will be trying my best,”” she told him.
“Very good. I will show you a couple of people that I want you to call, and I think it will be great if you do so,” he told her.
Alyssa took all of this in, realizing that it was something that wasn’t what she was expecting. She thought for sure that this would be one of those little shindigs, but apparently it was bigger than she thought.
He got a book with some addresses in it and told her a couple names of guys that he wanted at this party. Apparently they were all rivals to his company, but they were personally invited so they could strike deals with one another and improve the business.
“This sounds more complicated than I thought,” she told him.
“I know, I was shocked at first too. But I trust you, and I know that it’s something that is bigger than ever before. It’s definite
ly a bit shocking to many people, but I will vouch for the fact that you will be able to accomplish it. You’re more than just a pretty face, you’ve already proven that,” he told her.
Alyssa blushed, feeling excited about that. She looked at him, realizing that it was only a matter of time before she would have to get back to work. He seemed keen on helping her though, which was more than she expected, and it made her happy that he did care a lot about her.
What Alyssa wanted to know was how these guys would treat her over the phone when she called them later on, but of course, she would have to wait for that. She would find out more about this later on, and she hoped that it would be tolerable to deal with, that’s for sure.
Chapter Four
Alyssa then spent the next week or so calling the various numbers in the book. It would be her first big job, and Alyssa was excited about this. She felt like she was doing exactly what he wanted, and even Travis was showing his gratitude.
He was very nice to her, almost nicer than what she was used to. Maybe he was just grateful that someone knew their damn job, because it was obvious he had a lot on his mind.
The gala was set about a month from now, but Alyssa didn’t have to do anything else but schedule the appointments. She made the first three about three days later after trying to get ahold of them and get them to answer their damn phones.
But it was the other three that were being troublesome. They were refusing to answer, and every time the secretary said that she would call her back, it was no dice.
About a week later though, the first two calls that she made finally got back to her and they told her that they were okay with certain times. The last one was a guy named Victor, and he was pretty annoying to deal with.
Every time she called the man it would always be voicemail. There wasn’t even an assistant that was residing there, telling her to piss off. Instead, he wouldn’t answer period, and it bothered her to no damn end that it was happening in this fashion.
She kind of wondered whether or not the world was out to spite her, or if it was just some luckless dude trying to convince her that he actually was busy.
On her way home one night, she got a call. It was strange, because she normally never got calls. After a moment or so, she picked it up.
“Hello? This is Alyssa,” she said into the phone
“Hello, this is Victor. I got a call from someone at this number a couple of weeks ago, and I was trying to decipher who in the world this might be. Is this you?” the voice asked.
“Yes, it is me. I’m the secretary and assistant to Travis. My name is Alyssa,” she said to the man on the other line.
“Well then great. I’m presuming that Travis needed me for something? I haven’t talked with him in forever, and I was wondering just what in the world that man wanted with me,” he asked her.
Alyssa listened to the man, realizing that he had some sort of foreign accent that she couldn’t decipher. She thought about it invite you to this party. I mean, you’re going to be there, right?” she asked him.
There was a pause, and Alyssa hoped that maybe, just maybe she didn’t screw this up. She thought that the way she said those things was a bit too forward, but then he spoke once again.
“Ahh, another party you say? Well he know as how I’m for sure that I am going to be there. I definitely will not miss it. Besides, the two of us do have to talk. It’s been a while since we’ve caught up with one another, and I do miss speaking with him,” he told her.
She listened to this, and she had to admit, this man certainly interested and intrigued her.
She wondered just what in the world he was thinking, because he sounded so obscure, almost different in a sense, and she liked the fact that he was able to speak with her in such a smart, rational way. She certainly liked the fact that he knew exactly what she was calling for, and she didn’t have to bullshit anything.
“Well yeah, I wanted to invite you. Thank you for responding,” she replied.
“Not a problem. And tell Travis that I like you better than Ivy. You actually sound like you have more than just the personality of a gnat. God I hated that bitch,” he said to her.
She laughed for a moment to herself. She hated that bitch as well. But of course, she still felt like Travis had some emotional connection to her, but she didn’t know what.
“Well I’ll spread the word along. See you in a few weeks,” she replied.
The two of them hung up, and she sighed. This was a pretty awkward conversation, because she felt like he was getting at something that she wasn’t used to.
She knew that he was thinking about something else, something that wasn’t obvious to her. She wanted to know just what it was, but she could already tell that the only way to figure it out would be if she just waited and saw what would happen next.
The next couple of days were pretty normal. She got the work done in the office, and soon she was running errands related to the gala.
She got some of the food orders done, but the other workers would pick it up, and she worked with the catering services to have everything in place. Travis marveled at the way she worked, and after a moment or so, he turned to her, beaming brightly.
“Man, you’re better at this than I thought,” he explained to her.
“Well I can work well. So what’s going on with this? It seems like it’s a pretty big deal,” she offered. She was shocked at how readily not just Victor, but everyone, seemed to agree to coming.
“It’s only one of the biggest parties out there. I do a lot of work trying to perfect this, and I know that many of the people who are going to be there will be expecting the best, so that’s what I want to give them.
I know that you’ll do well with this, and I trust in your judgement. Plus, it seems obvious that a lot of the people that are coming like you a lot, and I’m happy about that.
In the past, it’s been harder to get the others here due to personal reasons, and the fact that there was a problem that I couldn’t really beat,” he told her.
She knew what it was. It was Ivy. There was something about that woman who made her angry, but she didn’t know why.
It was more than just the fact that the bitch wanted nothing more than for her to fuck off forever, there was something almost sinister about her, something that made it obvious that she hated the world for whatever fucking reason.
“Well you have a better person now. And I’ll tell you right now that it will be better from now on,” she told him.
“Thanks. I mean, I know you’ll do well. I’m just already shocked at the sheer response. It’s a bit complicated, but maybe in the future I’ll tell you what happened,” he said to her.
Maybe in the future? What about it was so bad? She was curious about that, but it made her wonder whether or not there was something that he was saying that she had never heard of before.
“Well, I guess I’ll hear it later. But if there is something about that which you want to tell me, don’t hesitate to ask,” she said to him.
There was a pause, and that smile was back. That damn smile that warmed a person’s heart, the one that every woman thought was directed to them.
But Alyssa knew right then and there that it wasn’t directed to anyone but here. What did it mean? The only thing that she could do now was to just smile back. Maybe it would be explained in due time.
“I will try to explain all of this to you sometime in the future Alyssa. But for now, just know that I care a lot about your and value you,” he said.
He walked away, brushing up against her, and Alyssa blushed. She knew that falling for the boss wasn’t the best idea, but she did think that it was something that could happen in the future.
He was damn hot, but there was a secret that needed to be unfolded, something that was a bit direr than she thought.
After a little bit of time, Alyssa finished up her jobs and then got herself ready to get home. The next few days passed, and soon she was on her way to figure out the type of dr
ess that she was going to wear for this whole shebang.
She had no idea what in the world it would be, but after a bit of talking with the employees at the place, they insisted upon her getting one of the wine red dresses. It had a sleek and sexy feel, but was also professional as well, which is what made it perfect for the party that she was about to go to.
She was definitely excited about this, and it made sense that it would happen in this regard. She was ready for this, and she knew that it was only going to be a matter of time before things got interesting between all of them.
Then, the party was there. The day of the gala was interesting, because Alyssa went in to work for only an hour. Then, she was shooed out of there to her hair and makeup appointment, and she didn’t go anywhere between then and four when she showed up to start welcoming the guests.
She got them in once each time, and after a little while, the rest of them came on in. Then, there were greeters stationed there, but for all of the big guests, Alyssa brought them over to one of the private rooms.
“Thank you,” one of them said.
“You’re very welcome. Enjoy,” Alyssa said with a beam.
The people started to speak. Alyssa was forced to come on in and help out with any of the deals. When she got in with Victor, immediately he beamed.
“So you’re the lovely lady that I was talking to over the phone the other day,” he said.
“That’s right. I’m Alyssa,” she said.
“Victor. And I take it that Travis is taking good care of you?” he asked.
She blushed, looking over at Travis for a response. He then looked at her with a grin, and she knew exactly what to say.
“Well, he does help me out a lot. He’s a great employer,” she told him.
“That’s awesome. Well I’m glad that someone finally grounded the man. All right, let’s talk business. So you wanted to speak about a merging? What do you think Alyssa?” he asked.
Alyssa thought that the conversation would be between the two men, she never thought that she was going to be involved. This was totally not what she thought that she would be getting into the moment she stepped into here.
