“It worked!” I was excited that I was able to do it, but still upset for Tae doing what he did. “Why would you do that though!” I yelled at him.

“I did it to test your ability. It worked though, so I was right.” He said. I could see the pain in his eyes though. The cut looked pretty deep. He couldn’t take pain the same way as when he’s a lycan. Suddenly, I felt an extraordinary pain in my arm. I could now feel the pain Tae was feeling. It made me too upset to know he was feeling this. I now started crying as I came closer to his arm. I put pressure on it to try to stop the bleeding. I felt my tears running down my cheeks.

“Oh Tae, how could you hurt yourself like this.” I told him. Holding his arm with greater force. I wanted to fix it so bad. Without a second thought, I put my energy into his arm. I held it tight, and felt the warmth go into his arm, followed by a little shock.

“Amabel, stop. Please. I don’t want you getting hurt.” I didn’t listen. I continued to put my energy into his arm. I felt warmth all throughout my body, and suddenly felt light headed. Before I put the rest of my energy into Tae, he took his arm away from me.

“This is enough.” He said, holding me in his arms now. He slowly sat down with me on his lap. “You did it Amabel, you healed me.” He said. I couldn’t believe this. It worked.

“I tried so hard to put my energy into you Tae. I felt your pain. I felt what you were feeling.”

“That’s how you will use this ability. You need to feel what others are feeling during certain situations. When you do, it makes your ability come out and once it does, you use it.” He told me. It made complete sense. “I’m so proud of you.” He added. Holding me tightly now while I was still on his lap. “We should get back to the house now, it’s getting pretty late. Well, maybe not late, but the sun will soon go down.” He told me, as he arose still holding me. I was too weak to answer, and definitely too weak to walk.

“I should have ate before we left.” I told him weakly.

“Yes, yes you should have.” He said with a smile on his face. He knew I was going to be fine. I closed my eyes, and got closer to Tae. I heard his heartbeat, and it was filled with such closure. My mind went black.

I woke up with Tae talking to me. Maybe he didn’t think I’d wake up so quickly.

“Amabel, you are so amazing. I’m so proud of you. Soon, you will have all your abilities come easy to you. I will never fail to protect you my love. Never.” He said. Using my mind, I answered him. And I will never ask you to leave my side Tae. I love you. I looked up at him to see his reaction, and his eyes were wide open, staring back at me.

“I didn’t know you were awake. How are you feeling my love?”

“I’m feeling okay. I want to practice some more. Maybe something small.”

“Well okay, but first, you need to eat. Oh and, I love you too my Amabel.” He said, slowly leaning in towards me, and kissing me on the cheek. I got out of bed, and walked towards the bathroom to get changed. It was warm in here, so I decided to wear just a tank top and some shorts. I missed summer time and not having to worry about the cold. As I came out, I smelled Tae’s cooking.

“You can cook?” I asked, with a giggle.

“Well of course I can cook. How do you think I’ve been living all by myself all those years? I didn’t order out every night.” He answered me laughing. It smelled good, whatever he was cooking. I smelled sausage with eggs. I loved having breakfast any time of the day. Thinking of it, I didn’t even know what time it was. All the windows were closed.

“What time is it?” I asked.

“It’s time for breakfast silly. Why else do you think I’m cooking sausages.”

“Oh, I just thought you need what I liked to eat.” I said giggling again.

“Oh I do, trust me on that one.” He told me, laughing back. I loved that he knew me so well. I never had to explain myself and I never had to tell him what I wanted. Everything was always right in front of me, before I even asked. That didn’t only happen with food of course. “It’s ready, come eat sweetie.” He said. Before he could even put the food on the table, I was ready to dig in. I enjoyed breakfast completely, and got all my energy to practice more for the day. I wanted to know my abilities so bad, I would do anything it took to enhance them.

“Thanks for the food Tae. Nothing burnt, I’m impressed.” I said, smiling at him. “You ready to practice some more?” I asked.

  “Oh no, you’re not ready.”

“What do you mean I’m not ready? Tae I’m fine. I don’t want to waste any time not getting prepared. Come on, let’s go. I’ll try contacting Kierce again and maybe use some more energy to throw those cool colts out.”

“No Amabel. That’s too much energy to use right now. We can try something small though. Like… try to move objects.”

“Dude, I’m the last watcher. Not.. telepathic, or something.”

“Yeah yeah, funny. No I mean, use the energy of the lights in the room, and slowly try to move objects. It might work, and also might come in handy one day. You have no idea what your capable of Amabel. I don’t even know.”

“Then how are you supposed to teach me when you don’t even know?” I asked, kind of aggravated.

“I know how to open them up. I never said I knew what they were.”

“Well, okay Tae. If you say so.: I told him. I finished eating and got ready to move objects. As silly as that sounds.

“Now close your eyes, and take the energy from the light in the room. Don’t take all of it, just enough to move… this cup.” He said, pointing at the empty cup on the table. I tried to focus on the cup, and taking in energy, and had no luck. I again, tried taking the energy and forcing it towards the cup. Nothing, again.

“Tae, this is stupid. I’m not going to be able to move a cup. I wouldn’t be able to move a damn dust particle, not to mention a cup.”

“Okay, I can tell you’re not enjoying this. This means it won’t work even if you are able of doing it.”

“No Tae, I can’t do it period! I can’t do anything! I need my father here teaching me, not you!” I screamed, throwing the cup across the room and running outside. I shouldn’t have taken it out on Tae like that but I was furious. I wanted my father here. My real father. That wasn’t going to happen though and I needed to figure out how to deal with it. Since the connection with Tae was open, I could feel the sudden pain he felt from my words. Tae, I’m sorry, they’re just words. Pointless and heartless words. I told him. He now came outside to join me.

“Tae, I’m the last watcher. I should have unexplainable powers. I need to know what they are!” I told him. Feeling so much pain and so much anger. I couldn’t control it anymore. As I started to cry, I felt water drip on me. It was raining. As I started to cry harder, the rain now was falling more.

“Amabel, you’re doing this. We need to take advantage of this. Quick, do you remember the dreams you have had of me? Do you remember when the hunter was hurting me and you felt all the pain that I felt?”

“Yes, how could I not!” I knew that Tae was trying to get me angry now. I wanted to rip that hunter apart.

“Now do you remember how Argem hurt me at the factory? Do you remember me falling to the ground in pain?”

“Tae, stop it! Yes, I remember it all!” I yelled. I knew he was trying harder and harder for me to get filled with anger. It was now pouring, followed by lighting. I made a whole thunderstorm.

“Now think. The hunters killed your father!”

“Tae! You’re pissing me off!” I screamed. Not believing he took it this far. I reached my hand up into the sky without thinking, and struck it at the ground. The lighting came with it. I shot a bold of lighting. Unbelievable. I heard Tae. With anger still within me, and it feeling so good to release it, I grabbed another lighting bold from above, and shot it again. This time, with greater force. It felt amazing.

“I can’t believe you can control the weather like that. You can use it in your advantage. The abilities of the last watch
er.” Tae said softly. I barely could hear him in this storm. I looked up at the sky, planning to grab another bolt, and failed. I fell to my knees, and then fully to the ground. It took too much energy out of me, and I was now passing out.

“…Amabel…” I heard Tae saying in the background. I could no longer make out what he said. All I saw was blackness, and everything went silent.

  Chapter Ten – Process

Amabel, my daughter, they’re coming for you. Be prepared to fight them off. You will not be alone. Every lycan alive will protect you when it’s time… Be prepared… my daughter.

I woke up trying to gasp for air.

“I heard my father!” I screamed out, sitting up in the bed. I’m guessing Tae brought me in after I passed out again. This time, he wasn’t alone in the house.

“Kierce! Oh Kierce you came back!” I screamed. Excited, I jumped out of bed and leaped into his arms. I could hear Tae in my mind. He wasn’t too happy to see me so excited. I couldn’t help it though. I haven’t seen him in weeks, if not months,

“Hello my darling, how are you?” He asked.

“I’m okay, I’ve been getting better with my abilities. I heard my father in my sleep. He was telling me they’re coming for me. Whose they?”

  “Well, the hunters, us.”

“No, by the way he sounded, it was no hunters he was warning me about.”

“Who else could it be though? I know my father is building an army, so it must be them.”

“Unless he’s building an army of someone other than hunters.” Tae said, joining the conversation.”

“Yes, I suppose. I don’t know what type of army it would be then.” Kierce admitted. I guess his father didn’t tell him everything.

“Wait, how did you find out where we were?” I asked Kierce.

“A few days ago, if not about a week, I felt you. I felt you needing me and a light up ahead of me glowed. I felt that it was connected with you, and I followed it. I kind of figured you guys were here, but I didn’t know for sure. Well… it led me right to you.” Kierce said.

“Unbelievable, it worked.” Tae responded to what was just said. “Amabel, your abilities are getting better and better. He was right, especially after yesterday’s incident. I couldn’t believe what I did. Even though I needed anger and pain, it was worth it.

“I came not just to see if you were okay, but also tell you what my father has said.” Kierce spoke straight to me. “As I have said already, my father is building an army, and he’s sending it out soon. They will destroy anything, and anyone to get to you. He knows you are trying to enhance your powers, and it’s working.”

“How does he know?” I asked.

“Well, when he went to check on you, he smelled the lycan before Argem could even tell him what happened.” Kierce told me, and tae scowled at calling him that.

“Kierce! He has a name.” I yelled.

“Sorry, anyways, he smelled Tae from a mile away. You need to understand something. My father has powers no other hunter does. They are incredible in a way, but very dangerous. He turns, dark inside. Especially when fighting a watcher. He’s not himself, and everyone is afraid of him for that. He can control things that no one can. Unexplainable things.”

“What do you mean?” Tae now asked curiously.

“There are other things out there, that aren’t like us. They aren’t regular hunters. They are under the control of my father, and I’m afraid that that’s the army he’s building.”

  “What things?” I asked.

“I don’t know, I’ve never seen them before, but only overheard a few hunters talking about them. They feel nothing. They’re horrid.” He said. I was now feeling kind of sick. This wasn’t the new I wanted to hear. Not only did I have to go against hunters with powers, but now horrifying things that were worse than hunters?

“This is just great.” I said.

“Don’t worry, I will warn you when the time comes.” Kierce told me.

“Why does your father want to kill me so bad now? I thought he wanted me to be a hunter like you?”

“He did, until he realized what you did to Argem. If you enhance your powers, which you are already, that means as a hunter, you will only go against him. Now, he wants to get rid of you, so all hunters can finally be free. Watchers, like you, have killed thousands of innocent. They killed my father’s friends and family for generations now. He can’t allow you doing the same.”

“I don’t understand though! He killed my father and thousands of watchers as well! You can’t say he’s doing this for a good reason, because there is none. He wants to kill me to suck blood out of innocent people. Do you do the same?”

“No Amabel. I was raised on animals. Most of us do until we turn into adults. Then it is our choice. With watchers though, we had no choice.”

“Good! There should be no choice!” I screamed at him now. He knew I was getting angry, so he stopped before it was too late.

“I understand your mad Amabel, but this is how things work. Let’s change the subject though.”

“Good, we don’t want her getting angry and using her powers inside, now do we?” Tae asked, looking at Kierce.

“No, we don’t.” He answered. I wasn’t in the mood to do anything to day, so I laid back in the bed. I took out my phone and dialed my mother.

“Mom?” I asked her when she picked up the phone.

“Hi, sweetie. How are you? Is everything okay?” She asked.

“Yes, everything is fine. As of now anyways.”

  “What do you mean?”

“Kierce came today. He told us that Luthius is building an army and it doesn’t seem like an army of hunters. Whatever it is, it’s going to be big. Are you far away from Alaska?”

“Well, far enough honey, far enough.” She told me, sounding worried and disappointed.

“I know you’re scared for me mom, but don’t be. Tae is going to be well prepared for what’s coming, as well as Kierce. I’m pretty sure he won’t want to stand by and watch us fight alone.” Shoot, I shouldn’t have said alone.

“What do you mean alone? It’s only you and Tae right now? No one came to help you?” She asked. I was a little confused by the thought of someone else coming. I didn’t understand who else there was.

“Mother, I don’t understand who else there is to help us. I don’t know anyone.”

“Well, I don’t know what to tell you right now. Before your father died, he told me there are others watching you, besides Tae. I don’t know who, and I don’t know where they are.”

“Whoever it is then, I hope they get here on time.” I told her. “I have to go, I’ll call you soon. I love you.”

“I love you too sweetie. Goodbye. Tell Tae I said thank you.” She told me, and hung up. Not wanting to talk to anyone else. I relaxed in the bed, and fell asleep.

“Amabel, my love.” I heard Tae say. “Wake up.” I opened my eyes, and saw Tae sitting next to me. Kierce was nowhere seen.

  “Where’s Kierce?”

“He’s out.. hunting.” He told me. I didn’t like the thought of that. Hunting animals was a lot better thought than humans.

“Oh, okay. Is everything okay?” I asked.

“Yes, everything is okay. We should go out and practice again before Kierce gets here. When he does, we’ll need him to practice. So get ready, lunch is on the table.”

“Tae.” I called to him before he left the room. “Thank you.” I said.

“You don’t have to thank me Amabel.”

  “I know, but..”

“No, not but.. Come here.” He told me. I got up and came over to him. He took my hand, and put it on his chest. His skin was warmer than usual, and his heartbeat faster than normally.

“This, was always beating for you. There wasn’t a single day where it didn’t. You are my whole reason for existence.” He told me. Which such love, he pulled me closer to him. His lips touched my forehead, as he resisted to do more. With a simple touch of his lips, I fel
t myself stop breathing. There was not a simple thought in my mind that didn’t include him. Interrupting everything I was feeling at the moment, Tae stepped back, and left the room without another word. With the connection still on, I felt his pain. I felt the hatred he was filled with for Kierce, and the worrying he felt for me. I felt him wanting me in ways no one has ever wanted another, and yet, I didn’t do a single thing about it.

As I got ready, I was trying to focus on my abilities. I wanted to discover what else I was capable of. Anything is better than nothing. I walked out into the kitchen and smelled the lunch Tae has prepared. It was freshly made pancakes with syrup on top. Another one of my favorite food I’d have anytime of the day. With Tae taking care of me the way he has, I’ve drawn closer to him. I feel like I wouldn’t want to spend my days with anyone but him. If the day came for me to die, or turn into something I didn’t want to, I knew Tae would still, not leave my side.

  “Thanks for lunch Tae.”

“Sweetie, it’s only pancakes.” He told me laughing. Still, I don’t remember the last time I even cooked for myself. That should say something for him. I ate quickly and couldn’t wait to practice more.

We walked out to the same field, and again started with the basics. This time, it was easier for me to contact him, probably because the connection was already open. It took a little longer for me to turn it off though.

“Now open it back up, and open your position.” He told me. I did as he said, and it worked after a few tries. “Good, now let’s move on.” He said. We moved quickly through the basics and it was time for the more extreme stuff.

“Last time you had to get angry and upset to make it rain and use the bolts. Let’s try not doing that today.” As he told me, I focused hard on chancing the weather. It didn’t work as we planned. With the thought of me failing again, I began to get upset that I wouldn’t be able to protect Tae and Kierce when we get attacked. With that, I made it rain. As I got myself angrier, I caused a thunderstorm. Taking advantage of it, I raised my arms to grab the energy. I felt the warmth in my body, and I started to tremble. I could feel the energy passing through me. With a simple movement of my hands, I pointed towards the ground, focused on letting out the energy I took in, and shot out a bolt.
