Provoked

“Charlotte.” His voice was so deep, almost reproachful when he stood, that she automatically took a step back. She was going to apologize, for what she didn’t know, but then she gasped.
“What are you doing?” She knew what, she just didn’t believe it. Seeing a man like him down on one knee…? She almost passed out.
He held the ring out between them and said in the clearest, hottest, dead-sexiest voice imaginable, “Charlotte Anne Woods, would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
Okay, so standing naked in front of the fully clothed man she loved wasn’t one of the fantasies she’d ever had when she dreamed of being proposed to, but it didn’t matter. “Yes, sir.”
He cleared his throat. “Neil.”
“You want me to get down on my knees too?” She was thinking all right, but it was kind of weird, when he stopped her.
“No, call me Neil. Your Master wouldn’t kneel.”
She let him put the ring on her finger and realized he was out of his comfort zone doing this. But he’d done it for her none-the-less. “I love you so much it hurts.”
He beamed at her as he stood. “That’s what I strive for.”
It took her a second, but when she got the subtle joke, she dove into his arms with a laugh. “Good one.”
“This reminds me, tiger. I’m falling down on the Dom job. I’m still waiting to hear what you’ve chosen for your safeword. Red isn’t going to cut it anymore.”
Charlie scrunched up her nose and was going to tell him again how hard it was to choose one word when there were a cabillion she could pick, but then she remembered something. “Neil, what was Cat’s safeword? I don’t think I ever heard it.”
“Don’t remind me about all that.” He squeezed her until she squeaked. “It still makes me angry.”
She kissed his neck, collarbone, shoulder. “Tell me. Maybe I’ll use the same one.”
“Like hell. Hers is going to get her into trouble one day. Soon. Probably with Jude.”
Charlie played with his hair, twirling it with her index finger as she asked, “Come on, tell me what it is so I don’t choose the same one.”
“Harold.”
She’d just laid her head on his shoulder again when she pulled it off as though she’d been burned. “What?”
“I know. It’s crazy to choose a guy’s name. Can you imagine? Some Dom could mistake her cries to get him to stop for a different situation altogether.”
“Did you say Harold?”
His eyes sparkled. “I sure did. Why?”
She looked away and she really wished he wasn’t hugging her so tightly. This was one of those times she wanted to disappear into the floorboards. “No…no reason.”
“Good.” He let go of her and smacked her on the bottom. “Why don’t you get dressed? Wear the black outfit with the no back thing. Your hair up too.”
“Are we going still going to dinner?”
He turned when he got to the door. “Yes. We’re going to your favorite restaurant. We’ll be meeting your family there so they can congratulate us on our upcoming nuptials.”
“Really?” She hadn’t seen her parents in over a month.
“Yes. Catherine will be there too.”
“I’m so excited.” Charlie grabbed her robe and after she put it on she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do first.
Yes she was.
She took a moment to admire her ring.
“Hey, tiger.”
She turned. Maybe she should thank him again? “Yes.”
“There’s a gift for you in your night stand drawer. I’ll see you in forty-five minutes downstairs. Don’t be late.”
Forty-five minutes? She’d have to hurry. Another gift?
It was too big to be jewelry. She ripped open the paper and opened the plain brown box.
The Terminator.
“What the…?” She spied the note tucked inside the wicked looking vibrator and narrowed her eyes as she read.
Butterscotch,
There’s a new man in your life and I’m not talking about what’s in your hand. Get rid of Harold if that old fucker is hanging around in your underwear drawer. The Terminator is taking over and he only takes orders from me.
I want you to lie on the bed right now and introduce him to the prettiest place on the planet. Get yourself off, then get dressed and come downstairs to thank me.
Neil
Wow, he sure took his job as Master seriously. He promised her he’d make their life interesting—she pulled the vibrator out of the box and examined it—yep, it didn’t get more interesting than this.
“Oh!” She jumped when Neil noiselessly returned and wrapped his arms around her. Then she was the one who melted, hearing his whispered words.
“Thoughts of you on our bed, getting yourself off, were too tempting. Why don’t you slide into those sheets and let me introduce you guys?”
Less than a minute later, Charlie realized she’d been wrong before. Things could get more interesting, because they just did.
