  “Nothing,” replied Dan, “It's just that you are so goddamn sexy!”

  She relaxed a little, and took in the view as Gaia started their ascent. The landscape through the viewing wall just dropped away at great speed and was gone, and within a minute the sky was growing darker as they rose towards space.

  A few minutes later the four of them were sitting watching the new landscape of stars in immense blackness as they journeyed with the sun behind them. Dan and Aurelia were sitting close, but not quite touching. Dan wondered what he would do if Lithia suddenly wanted to have sex with him, would Aurelia be alright with this again?

  The sound of a gentle slap startled him from his day dream. It was Aurelia's palm against her forehead. She was smiling, her eyes squeezed shut.

  “Just put it up there in great big neon letters, why don't you!” Dan was nonplussed.

  “What? I don't...”

  “We can read your thoughts big boy!!” She laughed. “We all can!!”

  He grimaced. God, this was going to be tricky.

  It's okay She thought to them. It was easier to think this, not actually say it out loud.

  “No. No way!” Aurelia exclaimed. “Ain't happening!”

  Lithia had been explaining why they were headed this way and she had got to the part where they were going to return to the mother ship. And why.

  Gaia was almost pleading with Aurelia's mind. She was visibly upset, rocking backwards and forwards. Lithia steadied her with a long hand on her shoulder.

  Please Aurelia

  You must help us

  “Let me get this straight.” Said Aurelia, with a sigh. “You think it's a good idea to go back to your mother ship. Why don't you just stay out of the way? Live the quiet life!”

  It's not like that

  Gaia shook her head.

  If we do not report back, we are classified and a party will be dispatched to investigate.

  It will not end well for us.

  “So you want to take him to the Breeder one last time? Sorry, but no!” Aurelia was conflicted, she wanted to help but this was so extreme. The Breeder was apparently something out of a nightmare, that human men were hypnotised or whatever to mate with. The trouble was that some of the men, while physically able and willing to perform the task, couldn't stop their minds being fried forever. These were, well, what did they do to these unfortunates, anyway?

  If we take one more back then we complete our first tour of duty

  Lithia explained, her large blue eyes gazing at Aurelia's,

  We are then allowed to return to Earth as observers.

  “Why can't you take someone else?” Aurelia cried, “Anybody! Take anybody else!”

  Dan tried to comfort her with an arm around her shoulders. She rounded on him, his hand falling away, sparks flying from her eyes.

  “Don't you dare say you don't mind! This is between me and them!”

  Lithia's eyes glowed softly as she took Aurelia's hand. Reluctantly, Aurelia didn't tear it away.

  You are so good for Dan we can see that Aurelia

  “Why him though?” Aurelia whispered, it was no good, she thought, there was no other way out.

  Aurelia found herself on the verge of tears. She steadied herself with a will.

  But I love him too. She tried to think this directly at Lithia, not the others.

  Dan was curiously staring at her. Had he picked that up? She rose to meet his gaze.

  Yeah. I do. She thought, but he betrayed no emotion as he stared back.

  We all do. Said Gaia

  “So, what's the plan then?” Asked Dan. “If it has to be done, it has to be done.”

  Aurelia sighed. She could never be angry with him, she just wanted to hold his strong arms and feel him moving against her. She began to think about making love to him again. She found this soothed her somewhat.

  Gaia began to speak in their minds. Aurelia listened intently as they seated themselves. She found herself reaching for Dan's hand and feeling warmth tickling her inside as his strong fingers closed over hers. Even in her extremely concerned state she found she was hot for him. She let the feeling burn away at her while Gaia told them of the plan.

  They were to return to the mother ship, and dock in the usual way. Lithia would take Dan on board, whilst Gaia would stay on their ship, filing reports and generally filling time with useless chores. Aurelia was to stay in hiding. This would be fine if nobody came on board with them and the interior cloaking shield was allowed to stay in place in a small part of one room.

  This was probably the trickiest part as the shield required manual resetting especially if only on in selected areas. If Gaia was summoned to the Higher, Aurelia would have to wait it out alone and would be told how to reset the shield. Hopefully, this would not be needed as it was the most sensitive part of the plan. Human males were supposed to be in that part of the mother ship, but not females.

  The penalty for that was extreme for the aliens. Aurelia herself would likely not be harmed but would be mind-wiped and sent back to earth, after a short stay in the impregnation lab.

  Dan was to be taken to do his duty with the Breeder as he had done once before. It went well that time so there was no reason to think it wouldn't again. Then Lithia, hopefully on her own would go to the Higher and receive the tour commendation, electronic paperwork and finally be allowed to roam Earth's atmosphere as a Watcher. They didn't really know how long this part would take as they were still novices. And it was likely that Gaia would be summoned too, so Aurelia was already preparing herself for hiding out alone.

  Lithia made them a drink, which left them all feeling refreshed and energized. It was pure and golden, with a vague cinnamon taste. After a while, the great hulk of the mother ship rapidly hove into view, blotting out stars, it looked to Aurelia as big as a planet. She stared wide eyed at it, feeling a tremor starting in her hands and legs. God, she didn't feel up to this. Lithia turned to them.

  It is time

  As Aurelia was dispatched with Gaia to the room where the captured humans were inspected, she found herself longing for Dan, wishing she could go with him, to help him through his ordeal. She flopped down on the long seat and Gaia activated a screen which rose silently out of the floor. It was like a hospital cubicle, she supposed, thus giving a bit of privacy.

  Gaia nodded at her, a faint smile caressing her mouth, and turned away to the main room. The resetting for the shield would need to be done in here, an alarm sounded once when it was turning itself off. Aurelia began to feel her heart pounding as she realised what the stakes really were up here, in this other galaxy.

  Dan swallowed hard as Lithia led him toward the main wall which would soon roll down and reveal themselves to the waiting male drone aliens outside.

  Remember Dan we are not to talk to one another outside

  They will pick it up

  She started to turn to him, her fingers hovering over the buttons that releas
ed the outer and inner walls of the ship. Quickly, he turned to her, and reaching up, pulled her head to his and kissed her firmly on the mouth. He released her and winked at her, reassuringly.

  As the wall swished suddenly down, Dan could see, as before, the male guards, standing at the far end. Before, he had been curious and totally dazed by the experience. If the males had thought he was not in a trance back then, nothing bad had happened. He hadn't been, but looking back he was almost in shock anyway at this point and therefore looked like all the others.

  Now everything was different, stakes and all. Now he was acting and he better be good. He had a feeling that they couldn't necessarily read his thoughts, but could definitely read Lithia's so communication between them would have to be discreet if not at all.

  They walked slowly towards the far end and Lithia gently guided him as she had done before. All was well. They passed out into the main hallway, hangar-sized and echoing with footsteps. He braced himself and sure enough here were hundreds of men in trance like state doing the same thing; each shuffling or walking with a female alien gently or firmly propelling him in one direction. He trod slowly as they joined the procession, past several more guards until at last they entered the Breeder's chamber.

  The guy in front of Dan seemed to catch his footing and fall, the alien with him shot out a hand and snatched at the back of his gown but not enough to stop him pitching heavily to the ground, head first. The female held her hands up to her head and turned left and right, as if summoning the males. Dan made himself trudge on, wanting to help, but did catch the guy's eye as he passed. He looked dazed, but there was a strange, cunning look in his eyes that filled Dan with alarm.

  Not good, he thought. Not good at all. All we need is a smooth, no-hitch mating and we're gone again.

  As they neared the steps to the first platform, Dan could see men splitting off left and right to join queues at different sets of steps. Each set of steps led up to a giant pedestal, fifty feet off the ground. Each pedestal had a guard or two at the top, and a large tub. It was what was inside the tub that Dan was going to have sex with, but right now he wasn't really feeling the love.

  He steadied himself and started up. The crowd had thinned a bit and Dan could see that the falling over man was directly behind him. He kept his head down. The guy still had bedroom slippers on, underneath his white gown. Dan could hear him muttering, a wild panicky noise under his breath. Why couldn't his alien tell he was close to breaking out? He had a bad feeling about this.

  As they neared the top Dan could feel his heart thumping. The tub was large and cylindrical, light pulsed from inside it. Tubes rose out of it up to the ceiling. The males waited for them.

  “No no no no no no!” The guy behind him was getting louder and louder. He lurched forward suddenly, catching Dan in the back of the knee.

  “NO NO NO NO NO! MAN! NO WAY!” He grabbed at Dan, holding him back.

  “Come on, man! We've got to get out of here!” He cried, yanking on Dan's arm. Dan slid back down a step.

  “Get off!” Dan hissed at him. Lithia stooped to try to separate the two, and the other alien started to get involved too. The males came to attention at the side of the tub.

  “What's the MATTER with you, man!” The guy cried, “ You know it, I KNOW you do!” The guy was trying to pull Dan down the steps.

  Lithia stared at the guy in horror. Dan tried to pull away and act dazed but it was all going horribly wrong. Lithia now tried to pull the guy's hands off Dan and the other alien stared back at Lithia as she pulled the other way. Dan could hear white noise in his head, he guessed it was a different tongue being spoken at Lithia. If she talked now it would be unthinkable. She was trying not to but her large blue eyes were wide and searching him. He didn't know what to do.

  Dan..

  “DAN!” Shrieked the guy, “You're Dan!” and he started laughing high and maniacally.

  Dan groaned. The guards were stepping forward now, he felt them grip his arms and he looked at Lithia, helplessly. They were seizing all of them, Lithia, the guy and his alien too.

  “Thanks a bunch!” He hissed at the wild eyed guy as his vision began to turn grey.

  Back on the craft Aurelia had a bad feeling. She couldn't sit still.   Gaia slowly moved her hand to Aurelia's brow and closed her eyes. Suddenly a cool wave, like a sea breeze fluttered through her mind, calming all her thoughts. She closed her eyes in relief at the stress being lifted from her.

  “Aaaah, that's wonderful!” She murmured, “You should bottle that!”

  She relaxed her body, her arms hanging down beside her, and breathed slowly and deeply. From her head to her toe she felt so relaxed. Everything was going to be just fine. Then Gaia's voice spoke softly in her mind.
