Beautiful Nightmare

He broke our lock abruptly and backed away a few inches, his hands dropping my me. “What are you trying to do to me?” he said quietly, leaning his forehead against mine, his hands once again resting on the edge of the pool.

I didn’t know what I was doing. I had never felt like this before. Did I do something wrong? It was like I had no control over myself when I was with him. Oh god, what he must think of me!

“I…I’m sorry.” I somehow managed to say.

I tried to pull away, to duck out of his arms and leave him alone, but he stopped me, putting a hand on my shoulder.

“Don’t be. I just find that I lack all my control when I’m with you and… I don’t want to do anything you’re not… okay with.”

Well, well. At least I wasn’t the only one here who felt like all control was lost.

“Well, how about this then, unless you hear the words, no or stop, you have nothing to worry about. Is that good enough for you to have a clear conscience?” He didn’t say anything and I couldn’t tell what he was thinking. “You’re honestly not going to get rid of me that easily.” I joked with a smile.

I finally saw a spark of something in his eyes. I couldn’t wait any longer and I guess I needed to prove my point. I lifted one hand and brought it up behind his head, pulling his lips toward mine, grabbing a hand full of his hair at the same time. His response was immediate and I felt his hands sliding slowly from my shoulders to my waist and tighten. I felt him push us off the wall as we both fell into the deep water, still locked together, breaking free when we finally needed air.

Once we were both breathing normal again, we swam the length of the pool, back toward the shallow end. When I saw that he was passing me, I jumped up onto his back, wrapping my arms and legs around him. He stood up quickly, turning his head back toward me and smiled. His hands came to rest high on the outside of my thighs, slowly tracing the line of my legs, down to my ankles, then gently back up again, resting his hands where they started. He held me there, tightly, than twisted me around so I was facing him, still entangled around him. His hands still rested in the same high place on my legs, not daring to go any higher. He was searching my face again, looking ready to say something just at the end of his tongue, but couldn’t get the words out of his mouth. I watched as his eyes suddenly became very far away.

I tensed. “Kamdyn, what’s wrong?” It wasn’t the first time he looked at me like that, like he had something he needed to say but couldn’t.

“It’s nothing.” he tried reassuring me.

“It’s not nothing. You keep doing that, looking like there’s something important you need to say. But you won’t say it.” I paused, waiting for a response but he still had none. “Why not, don’t you trust me?” I could barely see his face in the dark, but I knew that would get him.

“I do trust you,” he whispered. I caught the fight reflected in his features, than he leaned those couple inches over while drawing me closer. He tore one hand away from me and brushed my wet hair away from my face, wiping rain drops from my cheek and gently kissed just below my ear. “I can’t help the way that I feel about you. We’ll just leave it at that for a while.” he whispered directly against my skin.

I shudder ran through me and I froze, unable to say anything. I wasn’t sure what I could say to that. But what could I say. We would leave it at that because as much as what he said confused me on my end, I did understand it from his. Because I guess I felt similarly, I can’t help the feelings I have for him and I know I can’t push them away anymore. I didn’t know how to respond to that, so I didn’t.

“I know it sounds crazy but… since we first touched, I’ve been struggling with all the emotions I feel, for you. I have never been so sure about anything in my life. And to be honest, I have never been sure about a damn thing.” His words came to a halt, and he dropped his eyes from mine. But I couldn’t take mine off of him.

Of all the things I felt for him, of all the questions I needed answered, the one thing I was completely convinced on was that I knew the things I felt for him were way beyond anything I have felt for anyone before. I felt lost and found at the same time. Crazy.

When I was able to tear myself away from my thoughts and focus on his face again, I could see questions in his eyes. Sometime during the spinning tea cups ride in my head, he must have put me down because I suddenly realized I was standing on my own.

At that point I didn’t think my mouth would work to form any words. I settled for reaching out for his hand. Since I hadn’t said anything alluding to my feelings toward him, I needed him to recognize, like I did, what this physical feeling was that we both felt when we were linked together. He put his hand in mine and I lured him closer to me.

“Do you feel that?” I asked seriously. He put his head down, to look at our clasped hands. I felt the prickle flowing through my hand and up my arm intensify when he looked and I smirked. “What you feel, what we feel, when we touch is a physical demonstration of how we feel about each other. Every time you feel that on your skin when I touch you, is me physically showing you how I feel.” As soon as I finished, he broke his eye lock from our joined hands. When he looked up at me, his eyes were searing.

I knew now why I felt myself being drawn to him. There was something in us both that was telling us we were two parts of a whole and wouldn’t ever be complete without each other. We belonged together. Nothing could ever change that. Just as I came to the full realization myself, he kissed me.

We broke apart when we heard our names being yelled over the thunderous downpour. How long had we been in here?

“Hey, you guys ever coming back?” Alex yelled in our direction.

“We’ll be right there.” Kamdyn answered surely knowing no one would hear him. I barely heard him. He seemed in no hurry to get back to the party we both seemed to completely forget about. Within a few minutes we were both back in the hot tub, joking with our friends. I realized, as I was surrounded by my friends sitting in the cool rain in a hot tub, I no longer felt claustrophobic.

The night stretched on and slowly everyone started leaving until it was only me, Jayson and Becky left at Kamdyn’s house still sitting comfortably in the warm bubbles.

Becky had told me earlier that her curfew was early tonight and I couldn’t help wondering, as I looked at her across from me in the hot tub, how much trouble she was going to get in for not coming home. I knew the only reason she was staying. She was more than a little interested in both, Jayson and Kamdyn. And she wasn’t the least bit shy about it either. Every few minutes I would notice her inch closer to Jayson, or lean into Kamdyn. Neither of them ever responded in a more than polite friendly way. Every chance she got, she needed to touch one of them. I guess now I understood what Kamdyn was saying earlier about Jayson, who could blame Becky from trying. Kamdyn was utterly gorgeous with his raven colored hair and amethyst colored eyes. Jayson was just as good looking, you could easily get lost in his milk chocolate eyes and masculine features. They both looked like they should be models, not students in a no-name town like this. It was definitely fitting that they were best friends.

Jayson and I had special permission, for tonight only, to stay out much later than usual. Since Jayson’s parents trusted Kamdyn, and Kimber and Justin trust Jayson’s parents. They both agreed that on Halloween we could come home whenever or just stay at Kamdyn’s until we were “able” to drive home. As long as Jayson stayed by my side and brought me home, there were no complaints. It without a doubt made my night much better and less stressful, knowing I didn’t have to constantly watch a clock. So Jayson and I had as much fun as possible and undeniably took advantage of the drinks because we didn’t need to drive home.

It was around four thirty when Becky got out of the hot tub and stumbled her way into the wrong bedroom.

“Becky, that’s the guys room!” Kamdyn yelled after her as she staggered in the door way. He and Jayson were laughing so hard, they couldn’t breathe. Even if she was supposed to go home,
there was no way she could go anywhere now. Even if she tried, we wouldn’t let her.

They had both quieted down their roar of laughter after a few minutes and at the same time, we all came to the conclusion Becky wasn’t coming back.

Jayson, unhurriedly got up. “I’ll go check on her.” he hiccupped, and took off in the direction Becky had disappeared.

As soon as Jayson was out of sight, Kamdyn moved and came to sit closer next to me. I leaned against him, putting my head on his shoulder and closing my eyes. I didn’t need to open them to know he was smiling. he kissed my still wet hair and he wound his arm around my waist. He sat that way in silence for I don’t even know how long, until we heard a crash.

We jumped, then heard the loud banging that followed, accompanied by a string of cursing. All of which came from the bedroom where Jayson and Becky had gone.

“I don’t think they are coming back.” Kamdyn said amused. I looked up at him confused, why wouldn’t they come back?

“Should we go… um… check on them?”

“No, I don’t think that would be wise. Becky isn’t going to let him get away that easily. Why do you think I didn’t go in after her? She does it a lot when there is someone she is after.” With the big smirk on his face, it wasn’t hard to get that he thought it was funny. I, personally, thought it was kind of rude. I braced myself to get up.

“Don’t worry, he’ll be fine,” he said putting his hand lightly on my shoulder. “She’s just going to pass out soon, anyway. This happens more than you would think.” I wasn’t amused and I was sort of worried for my friend. With a determined Becky and an ‘I want to make everyone happy’ Jayson, who knew what the possibilities were.

After a couple more minutes, no more sounds came out from the dark room. “Are you getting tired?” Kamdyn asked while I was still leaning against his shoulder. Before I could answer, Kamdyn started getting up. “Come on, let’s go inside.”

As I got to my feet, I remembered that, even though it was still very dark outside, for some reason, he could see me. I guess it really didn’t matter anymore. I’m sure he had seen everything there was to see earlier, not that the thought was all that comforting. At this point what was the purpose of hiding, so I continued out of the hot tub and walked over to Kamdyn, who quickly wrapped me in a fluffy towel. I dried myself off as best I could, while Kamdyn went in search of his towel. When he came back, I was packaged neatly with the towel covering me, wrapped tight under my arms. Kamdyn secured his towel around his waist and we walked through the sliding door of the girl’s room.

Mine and Becky’s costumes were the only ones left on the bed, but it didn’t matter. The long night had caught up with me and I didn’t even have the energy to find my clothes let alone put them on. As soon as my body hit the big bed, I felt a rush of sleepyness over take me. I moved only a little bit, to get my head on a pillow when I felt Kamdyn slide in next to me, pulling me to his chest. I sighed at the ridiculous comfort that came from lying against him. He laughed a deep throaty laugh that I felt rumble in his chest. So, so comfortable there, I no longer wanted to sleep.

“Trystie, don’t fight it. I will be here in the morning. I promise.”

I knew he was right, but I didn’t want this night to end. It might be the only chance I got to enjoy him like this. I saw a quick flash of purple light and the unmistakable sounds of birds, and before I could comprehend what I saw, my eyes closed and I was unconscious.

I woke up the next morning, earlier that I would have wanted to. The sun was beaming into the room through the uncovered windows and there was a tingling energy surging through my body. Then I realized where I was. I was covered by a fluffy white comforter and had a Kamdyn shaped pillow. As I went to more the heavy comforter off me, I noticed my towel was missing.

“Good morning, love.” Kamdyn said quietly, almost as if he were trying not to startle me, as he tightened his arm around me.

  “Did I wake you up?”

“Yes,” He said looking over at me. “But I’m glad you did.”

I blushed and pulled my eyes away, burying my face in his chest. “Um, Kamdyn?” I said as I removed my face from his bare upper body. “Do you know where my towel is?”

He looked down at me confused. I watched the little twitch in his lips. “No, but it’s probably with my towel somewhere.” Then he laughed, hard. “We must have lost them some time during the night. Never is my wildest dreams did I think I would wake up this way.” He stopped suddenly, yanking me up higher onto his chest. He kissed me softly and slid his hands down my back, sending chills up my spine. “I could only imagine what it looked like to Becky when she came in here this morning.”

  “What!”

“Becky came in to get her things before she left, I heard her come in.”

“Becky is the biggest gossip in school, Kamdyn. I thought we shouldn’t…”

He put his hand over my mouth and quietly shushed me. “I don’t care anymore. All I care about now, and forever, is you. But, I’ll try and talk to Becky if it will make you feel better.”

  “Yes, it will. Thanks.”

After brushing his lips against my hair, Kamdyn removed his arm from around me and sat up. He found his towel on the floor. Wrapping it around himself, he went outside to retrieve the rest of my bathing suit. I got dressed quickly, grabbed my costume and headed for the living room.

When we reached it, Jayson was sprawled along the couch, half asleep, attempting to watch TV.

“Hey Jayson, when did you get up?”

His eyes got wide as he eyed me in only my bathing suit and then wider when he noticed Kamdyn was only wearing a towel. He sat up quickly and rubbed his face.

Avoiding my gaze, he spoke only to Kamdyn. “Becky woke me up about and hour and a half ago. She woke up and screamed at me. Something about being inappropriate,” He rubbed his eyes. “I don’t know.”

Kamdyn and I broke down in hysterical laughter. Jayson looked horrified and it only made me laugh harder. I was doubled over clutching my stomach. Served him right, this was payback. When I could stand and breathe again, I told him I would talk to him and explain what I could on the way home.

Inside of ten mintues, Jayson and I had all our things and were ready to go back home, and hopefully sleep. Kamdyn came over and picked me up off the ground, still wearing only his towel, and squeezed me in an lung squeezing hug. He brushed my cheek with his lips, quickly. I knew exactly what he was telling me and I gave him a knowing smile. I didn’t know if he was doing it for Jayson or me. Hopefully he would get to Becky before her mouth found a phone.

The beginning of our ride home, Jayson was silent. I had a feeling what the silence was caused by. If the position were reversed and I saw my best friend walk out of a room wearing only a towel with a girl I knew to have everyone’s undivided attention, whether she wanted it or not, someone I was jealous of, I guess I would be silent as well. There is only one thing people would imagine to happen in that situation.

I glanced over at Jayson and couldn’t help the giggle that escaped me. He looked at me out of the corner of his narrowed eyes, face stern.

“So, did you have fun with Becky?” I asked teasingly.

“No! Did you have fun with Kamdyn? It certainly looked like it.” That was quick and there was a tone in his voice I had never heard before.

“I’m sure the same thing happened with Kamdyn and I, as it did with you and Becky.” I said back as calmly as I could. What exactly did I look like?

  “Somehow I doubt it.”

“Jayson, if it will make you feel better, I will tell you exactly what happened. After you vanished, we waited for you to come out. You never did. Kamdyn said something about how Becky is well known for pulling stunts like that when she knows what she wants, and that she wasn’t going to let you come back. When we were positive you weren’t, Kamdyn got my towel and we went into the other bedroom. Once I hit the bed, I passed out. We both fell asleep in our towels. That’s it.”

; “So, nothing happened then?”

“No Jayson, nothing happened. As soon as we woke up, Kamdyn went and found the other half of my bathing suit and we came looking for you, and you know the rest.” I turned away to look out the window, but even looking the other way, it was hard to miss the smile on his face. “So, what happened with Becky?”

“Oh, well, I don’t really remember going in the room. I guess I had a few too many, but nothing happened. I remember, vaguely, trying to help her off the floor and putting her into the bed. Once she was in bed, as I was covering her, she grabbed me and we both fell onto the floor.” I couldn’t help but laugh then, I remembered the bang and crash I heard the night before. It was even more funny now that I can picture what really happened.

“Yeah, funny, thanks. Anyway, she was like wrestling me on the floor. I don’t remember how, but she basically passed out again and I put her back in bed. For some reason, after she was in bed, I went to the other side, laid on top of the sheets so she wouldn’t wake up and get and ideas, and I went to sleep. When she woke up this morning and saw we were both missing clothes and in the same room together. She flipped out and screamed at me. I tried explaining, but she wouldn’t hear it.”

I was laughing even harder now, and I couldn’t stop. It hurt so bad.

“Okay, I guess Kamdyn and I didn’t do the same thing you and Becky did.”

I was still laughing when we pulled into my driveway. He stopped the truck and shut it off in front of the garage. I was finally able to look at him without laughing now, at least I was holding it in well.

“Thanks Jayson, I’ll see you later.” As I reached for the handle, Jayson grabbed my hand.

“Hey, do you mind if I come in for a little while. I really don’t want to go home yet.”
