  LAV: Light Armored Vehicle; looks like a small tank with six wheels.

  LINKS: Lifestyle Insights Networking Knowledge and Skills class.

  MEU: Marine Expeditionary Unit. About 2,000 Marines, of different MOS’s deployed overseas. A MEU usually is attached to a Naval ship.

  MOS: Military occupation/specialty; a Marine’s job.

  MP: Military police officer.

  MRE: Meal ready to eat.

  MWR/MCCS: Moral welfare and recreation, an organization on each base that plans functions for families and military personal living there.

  OOD: Officer of the Day, who stands watch for 24 hours. Considered “on duty.”

  PCS: Permanent change of station. Moving from one location to another.

  POGUE OR POG: Person other than a Grunt; non-combat arms Marine.

  PT: Physical training, exercise.

  PX: Public exchange or shopping mall on base. You must show a military ID in order to purchase anything here.

  SEPARATION PAY: Issued after 30 days of separation from one’s dependent while on deployment.

  SGLI: Service member’s group life insurance. Automatic life insurance issued by the military. Given to the dependent at the time of the service member’s death.

  TAD: Temporary additional duty. When a service member must go for training or to complete a service away from the permanent duty station.

  TMO: Traffic Management Office. Responsible for arranging moving your belongings with a PCS.

  TRICARE: Military health insurance.

  UTILITIES: Standard camouflage uniform.
