"That's it," he snapped. "You're going to pay for this."

"What are you going to do, big boy?"

I heard him growl loud through the phone.

"That's hot," I said. "Do it again."

  "Carrie," he growled.

"Yes, Kyle," I said in a soft, flirty tone.

I quickly sent a picture of his new room.

  "Hold on," he said.

I could hear his breathing quicken and another growl come from his chest.

"No fucking way," he said. "This is bullshit."

"I'll let you go now so you can call my dad," I said. "I'm tired. I've been working hard. I think I need a nap in my new bed. Maybe I'll watch one of these porn movies first. Talk to you later, Kyle."

I hung up before he could say another word. My dad came in the door from work.

"Carrie," he yelled up the stairs.

  "Yes," I said.

"What did you do to the poor guy?"

  "He called you," I said.

"Yes," he said with a laugh.

  "I took my room back."

"I thought you were moving into an apartment," he said, as he came up the stairs.

He burst into laughter as he looked around my room.

"Go look at his," I said.

He walked over and laughed even louder.

  "Carrie," he said.

  "He started it," I said.

"That was years ago," he answered.

"When he comes back, he can move his stuff back."

"That poor guy is hundreds of miles away and you're messing with him. Leave him alone."

"That poor guy is a grown man who called you to tell on me."

My dad laughed, as he walked back down the stairs. I quickly grabbed my phone.

Me: I see how it's going to be. You fucking told on me, you big sissy.

Kyle: I am making a list of every single thing you do to me. I will get you back, Carrie.

Me: Bring it, baby. By the way, all he did was laugh.

I took a picture of me in his bed giving him the bird and sent it.

The next several weeks were fun. My dad brought me home things to do for him. It was nice spending time with him, even if it was for work. I was looking forward to learning more about the business. I continued sending pictures to Kyle each day. Things were a little quiet between us. He was still brooding over his room.

Me: If it makes you feel any better, I won't be in your room for long.

His response came hours later. He seemed to work a lot.

Kyle: Why is that? I thought you were working for your dad. Explain.

Me: Yes, sir. Damn! They really are rubbing off on you. Hopefully not rubbing you off.

  Kyle: Seriously, explain.

  Me: I'm moving.

Kyle: I get that part. Where are you moving to?

Me: I'm going to live by myself like a big girl.

Kyle: Where? When are you moving? Has your dad made sure it's a safe area?

Me: I said like a big girl. Daddy doesn't need to approve.

Kyle: If he's paying for it, he should at least check it out.

Me: He's not paying for it. I am.

  Kyle: With what?

  Me: My good looks.

Some time passed before he answered.

Kyle: Not funny, Carrie. I'm hundreds of miles away. Give a guy a break. You know I'll worry. I was happy you were going to be there.

Me: I've saved up money the last two years. He's letting me work for him full-time in the fall.

Kyle: I have to be in a meeting. We will talk about this later.

  Me: Yes, sir.

I went to the kitchen to make him some cookies. There was a box ready to be shipped out to him. He seemed like he had been a little stressed and his birthday was coming. Rosie came in just as I was putting the tape on the box.

"He's going to crack up when he gets that stuff. You find the craziest things for him. I can only imagine what he thinks when he opens them," she said.

"He acts like he doesn't like it, but I can tell a difference in him after he gets one of our packages. You know his mom doesn't send him anything. He's told me his friends appreciate them too. They help him with the goodies. I can't imagine what they think of some of the stuff. I try to find funny things as well as serious. Sometimes I draw pictures and write letters. I miss him."

"I know you do," she said. "That's why you keep that car."

"His birthday's in three days. I want to make a cheesecake and record us singing happy birthday to him."

  "That sounds fun," she said.

I woke up early the next day and went for a swim. My dad had some work he needed done, and I wanted to impress him by getting it done early. I could tell he was nervous about my work. He was going to let me go full-time in a month, and I was so excited. I was going to take as many classes as I could while I worked from home. There was nothing else to do, and it would keep my mind busy.

As I walked passed a picture I hadn't seen before, I stopped and looked. It was a picture of Kyle and some of his new friends. They were all posing with huge smiles on their faces. He seemed so happy in it. I pulled out my phone and snapped a picture of it. It was a really good picture of him. I liked the happy ones.

When I got back to my room, I sent him a picture of me next to his box that had just been picked up.

Me: Your next box is on the way. I made you cookies so you wouldn't be such a grump.

I worked hard that day, so my dad had everything he had given me back as soon as he walked in the door. He seemed really impressed with what I had done. We spent two hours in his office going over things. By the time I got back to room for the night it was after eleven, and I went straight to bed.

In the morning, I grabbed my phone. I couldn't think of what to send for my picture. As soon as I opened my picture gallery, I saw that one from the wall. He was so gorgeous. I missed him so much. That was going to be my picture of the day.

  Me: So damn cute.

About halfway through the day I heard my phone buzz and hurried to grab it. Rosie was making the cheesecake with me. She looked over and shook her head.

"Not a word," I said to her.

  Kyle: Don't drool too much.

He was messing with me. I was not letting that go. It took a second to think of something, but I typed quickly.

Me: I know. He's gorgeous. Will you set me up with him?

I showed the message to Rosie right after I sent it. He had already sent one back.

"He's going to be pissed," she said.

Kyle: Thanks for the box. That was really sweet of you. The cookies are amazing. The guys said thanks.

That made me feel bad for what I had just sent.

  Kyle: Who is? Hell no.

Me: The guy next to you. He's definitely drool worthy. Is he your friend?

Kyle: That shit's not funny. There's no fucking way he's touching you. I hope you're enjoying yourself.

  Me: I am.

Kyle: Good. I'm keeping track of everything you do to me. I told you that already.

Me: You're the one who gave me the phone.

  Kyle: Keep it up, sweetheart.

Rosie had twenty candles to put in the cake. We had them on every inch of it. I set my phone up and recorded us singing happy birthday to Kyle. It really was sweet and brought tears to my eyes when I played it back. I sent the text at exactly midnight, so it would be his first happy birthday.

My phone rang and pulled me from my sleep. I looked over and laughed. It was eight o'clock. He knew not to wake me up before then. His crazy ass was up at the crack of dawn. I fumbled with the phone and turned it on.

"Hey there birthday boy," I said.

"That was sweet," he said. "I can't believe you fit that many candles on the cake. I miss you two."

"We miss you too," I said. "Hold on."

I pulled up the picture I had taken weeks ago of me stuffing a giant piece of the same kind of cake into my mouth and sent it him.

  "I can't beli
eve you're twenty. You're so old. What do you want to do today? Are your friends taking you out? Will that guy from the picture be there?"

I heard him laugh into the phone.

"Did you seriously eat my birthday cake? You know what I want to do today?"

  "What?" I asked.

"I'd love to throw your sarcastic ass in the pool. I'd love to take you over my knee and spank you for every bit of teasing I've dealt with the last two years. I'd love to smash a piece of that cake into your face."

  "Oh really?" I asked.

  "Really," he said.

  "To bad sucker," I said.

I heard the doorbell ring and knew my dad and Laura were already gone. When it rang again, I groaned.

"What's that groan for? You miss me that much?" he asked with a laugh.

There's someone at the door, and Rosie must be busy.

"Are you too good to answer it?" he asked. "Get your ass out of bed."

"I'm in my shorts and t-shirt," I said, as I threw back the covers. "Okay, you're going with me."

"You're such a dork," he said.

  I heard the doorbell again.

"Damn!" I said. "What a persistent ass."

I finally got to the door. When I swung it open, my mouth dropped open and I was frozen in place. He was right there in front of me. It was really him. I could feel my entire body shaking, as I fought the tears that were trying to spill out. He reached up and took the phone from me and set both of the phones on the table just inside the door.

"Happy birthday to me," he said.

Kyle had the biggest smile on his face. He had on jogging shorts and a t-shirt that barely covered his muscles. None of the pictures did him justice. He was beautiful. I still hadn't said a word, and his smile grew wider.

The next thing I knew, I was over his shoulder and he was moving quickly through the house. My hands gripped his back. I could feel the muscles in his back tighten as he moved. His hand was on my ass.

"Put me down right now," I yelled. "I'm warning you, Kyle."

I could feel him laughing against me. My hand went into the waist of his shorts. He wasn't wearing underwear again.

"Seriously," I shouted. "How many damn pair of underwear do you have? You couldn't wear one of them."

He laughed even harder. I grabbed onto his ass thinking he would drop me, but he didn't.

"Watch yourself," he growled, as I dug my fingers into his ass.

We got to edge of the pool. It was too early for that. I knew what he was doing. He knew he was going in with me. I grabbed tight to his skin and prepared myself, as he leaned forward and we both fell into the freezing water. We were both laughing so hard as we came up for air.

I looked over at his perfect face. He looked so sexy. It had been two years since I had seen him. I couldn't hold back the tears as they streamed down my face.

"I've missed you so much," I said, as I wrapped my arms around his neck and held him tight. "I'm so afraid to let go. I don't want you to disappear."

I looked up to see Rosie watching us from the window.

"How long are you here for?" I asked.

  "Two weeks," he said.

"Seriously," I said, as I pulled back to see his face.

He reached up and rubbed my tears away with his thumb, as he nodded. I knew the smile that spread across my face was huge. He noticed Rosie watching as well.

"We better get out," I said. "She has some crazy idea about us."

I pushed away and hurried out of the pool. There was no way he was getting up the stairs before I was. On the way passed the kitchen I yelled to Rosie that she had to make spaghetti for dinner. She laughed and let me know she had already planned on it.

I got to my new room before he did. He stopped to grab his bag and both of our phones. He stopped when he got to the door of my room and put his bag down at his feet.

"Get out of my room," he said.

"Nope," I said. "I don't see any of your stuff in here. Maybe you should go look next door."

He let out a growl and his eyes darkened. I felt an intense feeling shoot through my body and suddenly found myself feeling self-conscious about the way I looked. Kyle stood frozen with his arms crossed over his tight chest. My thighs pulled together tight as I sucked my bottom lip in nervously. His stare made me feel like he could see right into my mind. I had to stop it.

"Did you bring any of your friends home with you?" I asked with a grin.

He let out another deep growl and lunged at me. I fell back onto my bed in a fit of laughter, as he tickled me. Breathe, I thought. The weight of his body was like nothing I had ever felt. He was all man and muscle. His leg was between my legs, as he hovered over me. I wrapped my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist thinking I could flip him over. My body felt so warm and his heat was intense. It felt like electricity was shooting through every inch of me. I had to get him off of me.

"Do you honestly think you can flip me over, sweetheart?" he asked.

I tightened my legs around his waist and shoved my hips forward against him. He didn't move to get off of me, and what I felt was pretty impressive. When he leaned down so our faces were right in front of each other, I thought I was going to lose it. I could feel the warmth of his breath on my lips. He needed to move. I knew he had no idea what he was doing to me.

"Are you ready for me to take you over my knee and spank your ass?" he asked in a low but rough voice.

I felt like I was going come right there, as my body shook. The look in his eyes made my breathing falter. I looked up at him, shot up, and pulled his bottom lip between my teeth. His eyes widened, but he didn't pull away. The feel of his body against me was making me feel things I had never felt before. I grabbed tight to the back of his neck and kissed him. When my tongue went between his lips, he moaned into my mouth. A few seconds into the kiss, I heard a light knock on the door, and we both jumped to our feet.

  "Sorry," I whispered.

"Don't be," he said, just as Rosie rounded the door into my room.

She looked at Kyle. I could see tears in her eyes, as he opened his arms to hug her.

"Did you let her take my room?" he asked.

"I had no idea," she answered. "You know how she is. When she gets something into her mind, she makes it happen. If it helps, she had so much fun doing it and even more fun telling you."

"I bet she did," he said.

"Happy birthday, Kyle," she said. "I'm so glad you're home. It's been so hard keeping it to myself."

I stood up straight and looked at her sternly.

"You knew he was coming?" I asked, and she nodded with a smirk. "I can't believe you. I thought we had a bond. I've known you so much longer than he has. You let me do all of that knowing he was coming. Shame on you, Rosie."

  She hugged him tight.

"He grew on me. I've missed him. You have no idea how hard it was not to tell you. He made me promise," she said.

"Rosie knew about the room," I told Kyle.

  "Carrie," Rosie said.

I stuck my tongue out and started laughing.

Rosie set the table for dinner. She had a place for Kyle, but we kept him in the kitchen. He hadn't told anyone but Rosie he was coming home. I think he was worried about his trip being cancelled. My dad came in for dinner and looked around.

"Are you having someone over for dinner?" he asked.

  "Kind of," I said.

Laura came in and sat down as well. She was typing away on her phone like a teenager. My dad gave her one look, and she put it down. I couldn't figure out how they were together, but they made it work. I could tell they cared about each other in a strange way. We were settled and ready to eat. Rosie walked out with one bowl, and Kyle walked out with another. My dad looked up and shock crossed his face. He was out of his chair and hugging Kyle in seconds. Laura looked up.

  "Hello, son," she said.

Are you fucking kidding me, I thought? She never even got up to hug him. How did my dad find these crazy women, I wond
ered?

The two men sat down, and we all started eating. She never even mentioned his birthday. I was glad he had my dad and was willing to share. Kyle asked my dad how it was having me work for him. My dad told him how proud he was of how well I was doing.

"She mentioned that she's getting an apartment," Kyle said. "Are you going to check it out and make sure it's safe?"

  My dad shook his head.

"She won't let me. I'm not paying for it, and she said she's doing it alone. I told her it had to be in a safe area not too far away. I just found out she was staying. There's no way I'm letting her go that far. She's being stubborn about it. If I knew she was going to save up all that money and use it against me, I might have waited to give it to her," he said with a laugh.

I could see Kyle's body stiffen. He seemed upset about something. I didn't want his only time in two years away from the military to be stressful.

"I'm right here," I said. "I plan on being safe. I'm not a child. I'm a grown woman. Dad said I can work from home while I take classes. I'm planning on taking them full-time."

"You're going to work full-time and attend classes full-time," Kyle said. "Don't you think it's a bit much?"

  I shrugged my shoulders.

"I don't have anything else to do," I said.

"She'll change her mind when she meets a guy," dad said.

"That's not going to happen. For all you know, I already have," I said with a smirk.

"I don't think so," dad and Kyle said at the same time.

"Anyway," I said. "If you need a car while you're home, you can use mine."

  "No," he said.

"Is my car not good enough for you?" I asked.

"That's not it," he said. "If I need to go anywhere, you'll drive me. I didn't teach you how to drive for nothing."

I shook my head without saying a word.

Rosie brought out the cheesecake with the candles still in it.

"There's nothing missing from it," he mumbled.

"Why would there be?" dad asked.

  "No reason," Kyle answered.

We lit them and sang to him again. I could see emotion in his eyes, as he blew out the candles. I just wasn't sure what it was exactly. We all had a piece of cake. I helped Rosie clear the table, so Kyle and my dad could talk. When I went to my room, they were still at the table.
