Rachel scratched him harder, feeling his sweat and blood under her nails. She wanted to mark his body in some way, let all the other females know that Wyatt belonged to her. She wanted him to have her mark on his body always. Wyatt snarled when she scratched down the length of his back, but his blue eyes gleamed with satisfaction.

Rolling her on top of him to let her ride him, he tilted his head to the side, baring his neck for her.

Rachel licked her lips as she ground down on his thick, rigid shaft. Bracing her hands on his chest, she bent down and closed her eyes. She was so close, she could feel the intense pleasure spiraling up her body, sending sparks of electricity to her nerve endings. Inhaling his strong, masculine scent, she lowered her lips to his neck. Her tongue darted out and she licked the salty sweat off his skin. His whole body quaked and he sucked in a ragged breath. “Do it, Rachel,” he gritted out. “Mark me.”

Her teeth sank into the side of his neck and he jerked upwards, sending his cock slamming hard into her. That explosive action shattered her and she climaxed violently. Screaming into his shoulder, she let him flip her onto the mattress and press his body down against hers. She shuddered and squirmed beneath him as he pounded furiously into her. He had her arms pinned above her head, stretching her naked body out fully for his taking.

Rachel whimpered as wave after wave of pleasure surged through her. The feeling was so intense, so amazing she thought she might just explode. Just as she was beginning to catch her breath, a final, powerful orgasm ripped through her. She could feel his teeth on her neck, biting hard into her flesh as she screamed his name.

Her scream seemed to go on forever. When her scream finally subsided, all she heard was their stormy, deafening heartbeats and their ragged, intermingling breaths.

  “Wyatt,” she whispered breathlessly.

He held her tight in his arms, and with a gasp, she realized that he was still lodged inside her. He clenched her possessively to him and continued moving languidly in and out of her. She could feel his semen trickling between her thighs, but he was still hard, and from the look in his eyes, still wild and hungry for her.

She blushed when he murmured into her hair. “I want to make love to you again, Rachel.”

“I...” His words sent a bolt of molten heat hurtling down her body. Even though she had just experienced the most mind-blowing, explosive orgasm of her life, her body was primed and purring to take him again. She wanted to make love to him again, and again and again.

She clenched around him and he inhaled sharply. “Rachel...” he growled threateningly. She could feel him growing harder and even impossibly bigger inside her.

Digging his claws into the mattress, Wyatt pulled very slowly out of her. His biceps bulged and the veins on his neck and temple stood out as he forced himself to withdraw from her slick, tight heat. She whimpered softly at the sudden feeling of emptiness when he slid completely out of her body.

Swallowing hard, Wyatt kissed her eyelids and said, “I know you're exhausted. I should let you catch some sleep. You need to rest. I...I can't resist you, Rachel, but I must.”

She stretched out beside him, her body warm and relaxed. She felt sated, contended, but at the same time, there was a niggling, stirring sense of longing deep inside her. She longed for him, and craved his touch. She wanted to feel him inside her again. She couldn't describe or understand the feeling of utter fullness and completeness when they were joined. It was as if...they belonged together.

It didn't make sense. Wyatt Lawson didn't belong to her. Neither did she belong in his glittering, glamorous world.

This was just a one night stand, a holiday fling.

In a week's time, she would leave Ursa Springs and go back to the city, back to her small rented apartment and back to the demands of single motherhood and her nine-to-five job as an office manager.

She did the best she could. She had a busy, full life, but her life was just too different from the life of the rich and fabulous. Who was she kidding? They didn't belong in each other's worlds.

Rachel closed her eyes and let herself drift off to sleep. She didn't want to think about leaving Wyatt right now. She just wanted to bask in the afterglow of sex and breathe in the scent of their lovemaking as she slept. For one night, she wanted to feel like a sexy, desirable woman. Not a harried single parent, not a responsible big sister, not a competent office manager. She was just a woman, in bed with the man of her dreams.

She felt Wyatt pull the covers over her shoulders and lean back. As she sighed and sank deeper into the inviting blanket of sleep, she thought she heard Wyatt swear under his breath. “I've lost my fucking mind and my heart. This is...fucking insane,” he growled low. “I've fallen, like a fool and a madman.” There was a long pause before she heard him whisper again in the dark, “I've fallen for you, Rachel.”

  CHAPTER SIX

Very gently, Wyatt extricated himself from Rachel's arms and sat up in bed. He turned to gaze down at the sleeping woman. Her lashes were long and dark against her skin, and her full, plump lips were slightly parted. He had to stop himself from kissing her and waking her. She was only human, and he had clearly exhausted her with his demands. The covers had slid down her curvy body, and the sight of her bountiful breasts made him hard as a rock in an instant.

Wyatt groaned softly. He wanted to take her again while she slept. Just bury himself in her lush heat and enjoy the feel of her soft, warm body beneath his. Sex with Rachel was more than just sex. It wasn't meaningless sex. This wasn't a one night stand. He wanted more, much more than just one night.

When their bodies joined, there was a powerful, searing connection. This female was made for him. They fitted together perfectly, undeniably. There was no doubt about it. She was his mate.

His bear knew it, his heart knew it. He just needed to wrap his stubborn mind around it.

He was used to just dating and bedding pretty, vacuous females. He just wanted a good time, but the trouble was, the good times didn't last. In fact, they never lasted beyond one night. Those giggling, swooning females just didn't hold his interest. He just liked to party and have fun after a hard day's work. He worked hard, and he would play hard. Being the Beta of the Silvertip clan and the Vice-Chairman of the Silver Group meant he worked late most nights. He just wanted to let his hair down after a long day. He wasn't looking for stimulating, intelligent conversation or long-term, long-drawn affairs. That would seriously cramp his style.

So what was it about this human woman and her little boy that made him want to turn his back on his playboy, partying lifestyle and just morph into a big, grizzly papa bear?

Wyatt frowned, rubbing absently at his chest.

He never wanted to be anyone's baby daddy. He always made sure he used protection when he brought a woman home. He would only have a cub when he found the right woman. Family was important to him. As a single, eligible bachelor, he would play the field, sow his wild oats, but at the back of his mind, he always knew that this wasn't something he could go on doing forever. He might exude a rakish charm and revel in his playboy persona, but at heart, he was a family man. He was deeply loyal and protective of his family, his brothers, his clan. And when he found her, his mate.

For a long moment, he gazed down at Rachel sleeping so soundly in his bed. His heart swelled and ached with a fierce yearning and tenderness. He wanted this woman in his bed, every night, for the rest of his life. She belonged here, in his bed, in his life. And despite the convoluted rationalizing of his stubborn mind, she was already in his heart.

With the back of his fingers, he traced that long, jagged scar on her cheek and down the side of her face. He loved her scar. And he loved that she wasn't self-conscious about it.

The scar showed her grit and resilience, her indomitable strength and undying loyalty to her family.

This little human was even stronger and more formidable than a lot of bears he knew.

She remained strong and steadfast, even after being attacked by a rog
ue werewolf. She wasn't threatened by a mere rogue. She continued living and loving, undaunted and unafraid.

Her scar was a badge of courage. And it made her all the more beautiful to him.

Wyatt jerked when he heard a soft whimper and a tiny sneeze. Mikey was a few doors down the corridor, but with his shifter senses, he could clearly hear the little boy tossing and sneezing in his room.

Getting up quietly and quickly, he yanked on a pair of sweatpants and left his bedroom. Padding down the carpeted corridor, he stopped outside Mikey's door and listened. The little boy sneezed again, and mumbled.

Wyatt pushed the door open soundlessly and entered the room. The night light was on, and he saw that Mikey was clutching two teddy bears under his blanket and muttering, “We're going to the park tomorrow...” The little boy's eyes were closed, and he appeared to be talking in his sleep.

Mikey turned to his side and one of the teddy bears flopped onto the floor. Wyatt picked it up and tucked it carefully back under the boy's arm. He had bought the two bears just a few days ago when he stopped by a convenience store. The two bears were sitting in the shop window beside the convenience store and he suddenly remembered that he hadn't bought a single stuffed toy for the boy's room. Human children liked soft, cuddly toys, right?

It was a last minute buy, but Mikey seemed to like the bears just fine. Of all the toys in the room, Mikey had chosen to take these two teddy bears to bed with him.

Wyatt sat down on the edge of the bed and watched the little boy sleep. He stroked the boy's soft, brown hair which smelled of baby shampoo and saw a small smile tug at the corner of Mikey's mouth. He wondered what the boy was dreaming about.

Rachel had done a great job with him. She had brought him up well. The little man clearly adored his mom, and he was well-behaved, smart and spunky. He was an angel, an absolute joy to be around. Wyatt couldn't for the life of him understand how any man could abandon Rachel and Mikey. How could any male not want them? They were so precious, so amazing.

If they belonged to him, he would go to the very ends of the earth to get them back. He would never let them go. It would kill him to lose them. If they were his...

Wyatt released a low growl through clenched teeth.

  They were his.

It was a fact. Rachel was his mate, and her little boy was his little boy too. The truth was staring straight at him, daring him to deny it.

He couldn't, wouldn't deny it. He had claimed and marked Rachel as his tonight. And she had marked him right back. He smirked when he straightened up and felt the deep, possessive scratches on his back. Rubbing his neck, he felt the shallow marks made by her blunt human teeth at the side of his neck. Rachel had scratched and bitten him, taken him and marked him, just as he had marked her.

Very gently, Wyatt reached out and stroked Mikey's hair with his palm. He smoothed his large hand down the boy's head and touched Mikey's chubby cheeks. The boy was adorable, angelic and good-looking, just like his mom. Through his touch, with every tender stroke, Wyatt released his alpha bear scent into the boy's hair and skin.

Just as he had claimed Rachel, he would claim Mikey as his. Mikey might not be a werebear but he was his cub all the same. He would provide for his cub and he would protect him with his life.

Mikey smiled and murmured in his sleep. Wyatt touched the boy's forehead lightly with his lips and tucked the covers snugly around his shoulders. Gently, he arranged the teddy bears on either side of Mikey's body so that the two bears faced outwards and guarded the boy while he slept. From now on, the Silvertip bears would always protect Mikey. He was their Beta's cub.

Wyatt checked all the windows in Mikey's room and put away the Lego pieces that had him swearing viciously under his breath as he tripped and staggered his way across the room. Who know those tiny plastic bricks could cause so much pain to the soles of big, beary feet?

After navigating his way through the hazardous terrain of a kid's room, Wyatt heaved a sigh of relief and mopped the sweat from his brow as he pulled the door shut. His admiration for Rachel just went up a few notches. She did this every single day, all by herself. Cleaned and cooked for Mikey, picked up after him, ran after him, worried for him and cared for him.

Mikey and Rachel were lucky to have each other. They were a great, solid family. Wyatt wanted in. He wanted to be part of this small, incredible family.

Quietly, Wyatt made his way back to his bedroom where Rachel was.

The sight of her sleeping peacefully and safely in his bed took his breath away. His heart swelled with pride and love at the mere sight and scent of her in his room. This feeling of happiness and contentment was utterly new to him.

He liked sex, sure, but he never equated sex with happiness. It was just a bodily need. There was no emotion involved. He was a gentleman, a generous lover. He pleasured the females, made sure they left his bed completely satisfied. But he always made sure they left. The women might want something more. But he didn't. He never wanted anything more than one night.

  Until now.

Now he wanted everything with Rachel. A life, a family, a forever.

Wyatt crossed over to the bed and eased her softly into his arms. Holding her against his chest, he breathed against her forehead, “You are mine, Rachel. You and Mikey both. You belong to me, and...”

He took a deep breath and let it out very slowly. “I want to belong to you,” he said in a fierce whisper.

In the silence of his bedroom, Wyatt listened to the sobering, startling echo of his own words. Those were the very words he never, ever thought he'd say. He'd been a carefree, partying bachelor for so long. He liked his lifestyle. Shackling himself to just one female sounded like a death sentence to him.

Shit. His brother, Nate, was right after all. He had teased Nate mercilessly about wanting to fall down the marriage hole with Ruby, and Nate had looked him right in the eye and said, “You can laugh all you want now, Wyatt, but you won't be laughing when it happens to you.”

Wyatt's flippant comeback had been, “It won't happen to me. No way. I won't want to tie myself to one female for life!”

But his unflappable elder brother had simply smirked at him. “I think I'm going to enjoy watching you eat your words, along with a nice, big slice of humble pie.”

Wyatt huffed and leaned back against the headboard. Nate was sometimes just too smug and all-knowing for his own good.

He gazed down at Rachel sleeping so soundly and sweetly by his side. As his heart clenched in his chest, he had to admit that Nate was absolutely right.

Taking the plunge down the marriage hole with any other female might be akin to asking him to leap headlong into the pits of hell. He would have to abandon all hope and resign himself to a damnable existence.

But leaping into the marriage hole with Rachel...sounded just divine. It would be a great adventure, the ride of their lives. They would experience everything together, the good, the bad, the ugly, the wonderful. It was going to be the life. This was the life he wanted. He wanted a life with Rachel and Mikey.

They'd shared the most amazing sex, but this wasn't just about sex. This was about something permanent, something true and real. Wyatt stroked Rachel's cheek tenderly while she slept. She wasn't a shifter, she was a human woman. And from what he knew, human females had different ideas about mating and marriage. He didn't want to pressure her. He would have to bide his time and go slow with her.

Wyatt watched Rachel sigh in her sleep, and he pressed his lips softly to hers.

The sight of her soft, naked body snuggling up against his made his mind scramble and his body rock hard in an instant.

  Ah, forget about going slow.

He wanted her now and forever.

He had never been so sure of anything in his life.

With a low growl, he spread her legs and went down on her. She moaned softly as her eyelids fluttered. She wasn't yet fully awake, but her body was already responding to the ministrations of his tongue and lips.

  As
her juices began to flow and she panted his name, he pushed her knees up and slid his aching, pulsating cock deep into her body. She instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his hips as he began to move inside her.

She smiled dreamily up at him as he made love to her. This was sheer, utter and complete bliss. He wanted this bliss every single day, every night. With her.

As he gripped her wrists and began to thrust into her, he felt the first ripples of her orgasm and he growled his pleasure and pride.

She was his, and he didn't want to bide his time or waste any more time.

He would ask her to marry him...tomorrow.

Forget about going slow. Going slow just wasn't his style.

  CHAPTER SEVEN

Rachel's eyes fluttered open and she gasped when she realized Wyatt was kissing her and nuzzling her neck. “Good morning, beautiful,” he grinned and gave her a loud peck on the cheek.

She blushed and frowned at him. Beautiful?

But he didn't seem to be joking. He had a satisfied smile on his face but his eyes were serious and intense.

She pulled the covers up to shield her naked body from his gaze as she sat up. She stared around the room frantically trying to find her clothes before she remembered what had become of them. Wyatt had ripped them from her body and tore them to shreds. And he'd made love to her, over and over again.

It had been the most intense, incredible night of her life.

But now it was over. It was the morning after, and the night, the dream was over.

“I...” she croaked. “I have to get dressed. I have to see to Mikey. He'll need his breakfast...”

“Your clothes are over there,” Wyatt said languidly, pointing to a pair of brand new jeans and a designer blouse draped over a chair. Sexy red lingerie was neatly folded on the velvet seat of the chair.
