The Wrong Shade of Lipstick

by B. M. Hardin

I was wearing a ring but it sure as hell wasn't the one that Levi had given me. Not that Levi’s ring was small or anything, but this one was as big around as a quarter. Overwhelmed I began to whimper---again.

Zack started his route toward me again and this time I didn't move.

"Baby, don't cry. You just had one of your little spells again that’s all. It’s okay, I got you. Stop crying you don't want to upset the baby," Zack said and rubbed my stomach. I looked down and saw I had a stomach so big that I couldn't see pass it to see my feet. I place my hand on top of Zack's and the baby kicked.

We both laughed at the exact same time.

"That's my girl. I told you I would always take care of you. And I meant every word I said. Daddy, will always have your back," Zack said and kissed my lips.

I didn't know what to say, so I said nothing. Apparently Zack always lived up to his word… so I believed him.

He said I would be his again one day… and taking another look at the ring on my finger…indeed I was.
