  ERA BRAE

A remote village in the northern reaches of Pyriam, Era Brae is the last spot where travelers can get a room for the night and a good meal before venturing into the wilderness.

The Inn of the Green Ghost and Dandril's Inn are the two best spots for food and company, with the far sparser Gullygog Inn as a budget option for those who are light of coin. The town also boasts one of the finest blacksmiths in the Five Kingdoms - the only student of Ardent ‘the Weaponeer’ to still be alive. His prices are steep, but he is one of the only men in the world who is able to repair Myrwish Steel.

Surrounded by rolling farmland, Era Brae sits on the border of the Druid Kingdom of Wynland. For that reason, it is not uncommon to find a druid or two in town, especially on nights after the full moon. If an adventurous soul is looking to explore the many ruins and shadowy remains of the wilderness beneath the Siegereaches, it is the best place for finding a druid to ask permission to enter into the wooded kingdom.

  FORBIDDEN RIVER

In the farthest reaches of the land beyond the Siegereach Mountains lies an unforgiving expanse, named on ancient maps as "Far Ulamek." Winding through, is a waterway of a thousand branches known only as "The Forbidden River."

Long ago, it is said, a great battle was fought between ancient armies carrying cursed standards, and as they fought and died, the river itself acquired a taste for human blood, and resurrected the fallen warriors to continue their battle for all eternity.

They say that they battle still, even to this day, and any living soul who ventures there is slaughtered and bled into the waters only to rise as one the cursed dead, drafted to battle for eternity in the river's endless war.

  MURDER CROWS

Little remains from the faerie world of old. When once this land was filled with flitting and dancing beings of magic, there were those who were prone to good and those who were subject to evil. The Murder Crows, ancestors of today's less magical variety, were a force to be feared. In great numbers, these birds would hunt their prey with a ruthless efficiency and carve out large territories in the ancient forests. They would also lend their allegiance to more powerful faerie masters, serving as spies and assassins in the Wyld World.

It is, to our great thankfulness, that these black hunters no longer roam the skies.

  ELDRITCH HONEY

It is a constant and welcome wonder that Eldritch Honey can still be found in the world. It is assumed that once upon a time, it would have been common in the faerie kingdoms, but now, it is quite rare indeed. And yet, Umzzaf, the King of Bees, still seems to haunt our world from time to time, and when he romances the queen of any given hive, the honeycomb that is produced for the season following will have a striking glow.

If the honey itself can be harvested, it can be used for all kinds of spells, especially those meant to influence children, control bears and badgers, or even summon the faerie folk. If eaten straight, the owner will have visions of their future and a profitable year. If baked into cookies, bread or pastries, those who eat them will fall under the spell of the baker and be far more amenable to answering questions or performing tasks.

  FAUX FAERIES

Little is known of these phantom sprites. Some say that they are the ghosts of faeries who have died. Others say that they are memories of the fae who once inhabited a place. They do respond to faerie bait and can be caught in traps, but they never speak, nor seem capable of cognitive thought. They are also temporary creatures, fading away over the course of an hour or so until completely gone. If they serve a purpose in the faerie world, it remains a mystery to me.

  MANDRAKE ROOT

Many myths and legends surround the mandrake root and its place in the magical order of things. Is it a remnant of the Wyld World? Perhaps some failed race of faerie that was never able to fully exit the ground? Or is it a distant relative of man, having chosen to remain within the soil rather than walk upon it? Whatever its true pedigree, Mandrake is an important reagent for the casting of magics that are meant to affect the wizardress herself. It can be purposed for strengthening personal magics, creating illusionary effects to beguile onlookers, or even as a proxy for the withdrawing of poisons and curses from the caster and transferring them to the Mandrake.

  POWDERED STARSHINE

The crystal known as the "Tears of Saint Vul" can be found growing in the caves of most east facing mountain ranges. It is a comforting sight to explorers because of its luminescent quality, shimmering even in the deepest blackness. Legend tells that they are the remains of stars, captured by the mountains and jealously hoarded beneath. When finely ground by a pestle of silver, it takes on the quality of sparkling faerie dust, and is referred to as "Powdered Starshine." Its uses are mostly for magics of light and vision, and can be a catalyzing agent for some forms of clairvoyance and illusion. At the most advanced levels, it is necessary for complex aspects and astral projection.

  OIL OF MIDNIGHT LAVENDER

Midnight is the most coveted of Lavenders, blooming only for an hour each night, precisely at the stroke of midnight. It is the most powerful ingredient used in any love potion, and must thus be handled with care. If extracted, its oil has potent properties for elevating one's charisma, especially if dabbed behind the ears for speech, and on the neck for attracting potential suitors. The spellcaster uses it for curses involving torrid romance, infidelity, and reckless abandon. It is also used as a fidelity agent and trust enhancer when applied to summoning. But as a warning to all casters, oil of midnight lavender is the one reagent which is as underestimated as it is coveted, and its effects are rarely the ones originally desired.

  PIXIE PROXY

An exceptional quality of creatures from the faerie world is their direct connection to their own soul. As such, the willful elf or nymph can detach a portion of their soul from their body to act as an agent, messenger, or saboteur. Called "Inaru" by the high faeries and "Ulthmas" by the darker castes, they should be treated with a wary respect when encountered, for not only are their masters usually nearby, they are most definitely on a mission.

  ARCH GOBLYN

Of the many breeds of Goblynkynd, the Arch Goblyn is the rarest of all. With black skin, they are known as the Nydark - both feared and revered by all goblyns. They are rarely ever glimpsed by men as they live deep beneath the earth, below a strata known as the Narmaach Strad, which is a depth no other goblyn will ever descend below.

Unlike their red or green skinned cousins, the Arch Goblyns are few in number and mostly loners. They are exceptional sorcerers, hoarding books and magical relics in their deep laboratories, and developing all manner of original spellworks never before glimpsed by surface eyes. Their social structure
is largely unknown. Their breeding practices are a mystery, and their goals, whatever they may be, should be dark indeed.

  WILLOW WHIPPER

A very rare and ancient breed of faerie, it is said that a Whipper Willow is born of shadow and eats nightmares. It has never been seen above the surface of the world, and none have been reported for hundreds of years. Very little is known about them, including what they look like. The mere mention of the Willow Whipper is something found only in ancient books describing a time before man when the Wyld World held sway. If there are any Willow Whippers left in the world, they must lair deep within the darkest dungeons of the beneath, and enslave or devour any who come across them.

  CLOUD CLOAK

A fascinating garment, the Cloud Cloak! Once made by the ancient Storm Riders of Stahlth for use in their lightning wars, the fashion was later adopted by the Sky Knights of Anth Pinnacle to mask their movements along the high mountain trails. The Knights closely guard its secret, and since the secrets of constructing a proper cloud cloak were lost with the vanishing of the Storm Riders, only a stolen cloak or ancient Storm Rider heirloom will be found on anyone not of the Sky Knight Order.

When worn with the hood up, it will create a billowing cloud around the wearer and his companions so as to completely obscure them from view. If the wearer is airborne, he will become completely indistinguishable from any other cloud in the sky. Many have been the tale of a line of Sky Knights donning their cloud cloaks and marching an entire army into battle, vexing their enemy's lookouts and thwarting any organized defense plan. It is a marvelous enchantment, and the envy of any general who is forced to fight against one.

  DEEP ELF

Somewhere in the depths of time, in the shrouded histories of the Wyld World, there was once a schism within the line of elves, splitting them into two separate races. The fair skinned elves who seclude themselves behind wooded kingdoms were one side of that divide. On the other side were the black skinned beings who descended into the dark of the earth to become the Deep Elves.

They are powerful magic users, skilled hunters, and deadly warriors - immortal and cunning.

If the elves of the forests are a rare sight, then the deep elf is almost forgotten, for rare has been the sighting in recent memory, and almost always has the viewer been stricken by dementia or loss of memory. It is not known what caused the faerie division, but neither race will suffer the sight of the other. So, the deep elves remain below, in dark dungeon kingdoms, where they contend with Arachnarch and Goblyns, and are only glimpsed by those brave enough to dungeoneer.
