“I’m sorry I lied to you.”

“It’s okay,” I said. “I don’t wish things happened any differently.”

“I won’t ever lie to you again.”

I sat up and turned towards him. “Why are you telling me this now?”

“Because I need you to believe me when I say I’ve been crazy about you since that night.” He clenched his jaw. “To be fair, I think I was crazy about you before then, but I didn’t know how deep my feelings went.”

  “And now you do?”

  He bowed his head.

“How deep?” I asked, my chest fluttering.

“I can’t tell you in words.”

“Then show me,” I said, laying a hand on his chest and clenching the fabric of his collared shirt in my fist.

He leaned forward and kissed me then until my whole body boiled inside.

His kisses were urgent, deep, hungry, and just when I’d run out of breath, he pulled back. “I’m not going to be able to stop once I start touching you,” he said, his fingers finding the zipper at the top of my cleavage. “If you aren’t going to let me have all of you, you have to say so right now.”

“I won’t stop you,” I said, my breath mingling with his. “You can have all of me.” You’ve always had me anyway.

He began sliding the zipper down past my breasts at a speed that was as deliberate as it was intense.

And when the zipper reached the bottom, my dress fell open so the cool evening breeze awakened my skin.

“I assume you’ve learned a few things since the last time we did this,” I said, sliding my hand around the back of his neck.

  “You tell me,” he said.

And with that, he lowered me down on my back and made a woman of me all over again.

  Chapter 28: Adam

The taste of her salty tongue intensified the scent of the soft sea breeze, and as the sky darkened above us, my desire for her overwhelmed me.

I dropped my lips to her neck and pressed my fingers between her legs so I could feel the heat through her black lace panties.

Despite how much I ached for her, I wanted to make the moment last. I pulled my hand back and slid it up her stomach to her chest, where the peaks of her perfect breasts were suspended in a black bra that looked delicate enough to eat.

“Getting warmer,” she said, arching her back.

I assumed she was talking about her tattoo and reached around to unhook her bra. As soon as it came loose, I pushed it up her chest to release her breasts and lowered my mouth to her nipples, which rose to attention when I twirled my tongue around them.

Her skin was sweet and smelled of an intoxicating citrus perfume. I kissed the soft curve below her right breast before moving towards the other one.

  “Well?” she asked.

I lifted my face to look into her dark eyes.

“You sure you haven’t seen that before?”

Oh right- the tattoo. I glanced back down to where the curve of her left breast met her side and narrowed my lust blurred gaze in an attempt to focus on the image.

It was smaller than my thumb, but thanks to the bright colors and the candlelight flickering against her skin, I could make out the intricate design.

“What do you think?” she asked.

“I think it makes your tits look huge.”

She rolled her eyes and pushed my chest away, but I was kissing her again a moment later, massaging her breasts in my hand as I swelled for her.

“Take this off,” I breathed against her, pulling her up so she could get her arms out of the sleeves of her dress. Once that was done, she pulled her bra off and tossed it to the side.

The sight of her tanned body spread out on the blanket made my mouth water, inciting a thirst that could only be clenched in one way.

I leaned up and pulled my own shirt off before scooting down so I could pull off her panties.

She leaned her head up and watched me, her chest rising and falling with her breath.

When I saw her pussy I felt like I might cry. It was perfectly groomed, and the sight of a familiar beauty mark brought back memories I’d forgotten about.

“Adam,” she said, reading my expression. “You don’t have to-”

“Oh but I do,” I said, pushing her legs apart and lowering myself between them.

When my tongue first touched her, she let out the lightest sigh, and it wasn’t long before she was dripping wet.

I lapped at her slit with an enthusiasm I didn’t know I had in me.

“Oh god,” she whispered as I picked up the pace, flicking her swollen bud with my tongue and scooping her out so I wouldn’t miss a drop. “You’re going to make me come.”

I thought about stopping, but she was too delicious, and the sexy sound of her panting spurred me on.

Once she’d jerked a few times, I knew she was on the brink, and I wanted to quench my thirst with her pleasure.

I stuck my fingers inside her, and she groaned as I churned her desire until it dripped across my palm.

I didn’t know a woman could be so wet, so delicious, and I curled my fingers inside her as I lapped at her clit, my lips slippery with her silk.

“I’m coming,” she whispered, sinking her fingers into the blanket beneath her.

A moment later, her body jerked so hard she nearly sat up, and I pulled my fingers out so her orgasm could flow down my throat, the taste of her bliss filling me up.

She spasmed when I tried to touch her clit after that, as if my fingers were electrified.

When her breathing slowed, I dragged my mouth against her inner thigh and propped myself up.

She looked as if she could barely keep her eyes open. “That was incredible.”

I raised up on my knees and unzipped my navy shorts.

Her eyes dripped down my chest to the trail of hair above my waistband.

I pulled my shorts off with my boxers, admiring the way the candlelight flickered against her soft curves. I was about to lower myself over her when she sat up, and I felt my swollen cock surge under the gaze of her attention.

She reached for it and stroked me until my whole face twisted.

“Fuck,” I breathed, her taste on my lips as I watched her.

By the time she leaned forward and licked my head, it was all I could do not to collapse.

Finally, she twirled her tongue around my sensitive tip, flashed her big brown eyes at me, and sank me against the back of her throat.

After two bobs of her head, I needed something to hold on to, so I rested a palm against her soft hair and let my head fall back as she sucked me.

“Fuck,” I mouthed, but no sound came out as I lost myself under the spell of her touch.

I couldn’t believe it. Even in my wildest dreams I never expected her to devour me like that. And the surprise of it caught me so off guard I could’ve sworn I felt feelings for her bubble up inside me that I wasn’t ready to have.

When her free hand cupped my balls, I clenched a bunch of her hair in my fist and struggled to keep my hips from moving.

But as much as I wanted to watch her milk my dick, I needed to be inside her, needed to feel her body clench around me like it had all those years ago.

  “Jolie,” I whispered. “Jolie stop.”

She slid her warm mouth off my dick and looked up at me, her eyes dark and shiny.

“I need to be inside you.”

She leaned back on the blanket again and propped herself up on her elbows.

My eyes ran up her center and stopped on her lips.

When she licked them, it felt like she was daring me and inviting me at the same time.

I lowered myself over her, the cool breeze on my ass a million miles away from the heat I could feel rising up between her legs. I took my dick in my hands and guided it to her opening, keeping my eyes on hers as I pushed my way in.

“Oh god,” she said, dropping to her back beneath me. “You feel even bigger than I remember.”

  I slid a hand behin
d her neck and dragged my thumb across her throat. “And you feel just as tight,” I breathed, sinking all the way inside her.

Then I lowered my lips and pressed them to hers, kissing her deeply as I rocked my hips over her and relished the way her soaked pussy gushed around me.

She slid her fingers into my hair as I massaged her insides with my every swollen inch. And as I picked up the pace, her hands dropped to my back, her nails digging into me as I drove inside her.

She let out a wild groan and dropped her head back, tilting her hips against the blanket so I could hit her deeper. “Don’t stop,” she begged. “Right there.”

I stared at her lips and came then, shaking over her as I pumped her full of everything I had. Then I collapsed on top of her so heavily I could feel our hearts beating against each other.

“Your skills have come a long way,” she whispered against my neck as I throbbed inside her.

“I was hoping you’d say that,” I said, lifting my face to look at her.

And when her eyes smiled at me, I knew it was love.

  Chapter 29: Jolie

It was late by the time we headed back to the hotel, but it was the most glorious walk of my life.

Adam somehow managed to carry everything along with holding my hand, which was good because otherwise I might have floated away like a balloon.

I felt both carefree and exhausted in the best way, and I was grateful for the loudness of the crashing waves as it distracted me from trying to label my feelings further.

But there was one thing I did know, and that was that I didn’t want the high to end.

Fortunately, my mind was too busy setting off fireworks for me to dwell on the consequences of my newfound smitteness. I mean, how was I going to be professional at work now that I’d given my boss head on the beach?!

Of course, I was so far gone I didn’t care how it sounded. Nor did I care that my black underwear was drenched or that I’d looked him in the eye and let him see how much I wanted him back.

Yes, my cover was well and truly blown, but so was his. And I don’t know if I was too physically worn out to be anxious of if I was genuinely confident in the fact that we could figure things out together, but I was more calm and at peace than I’d been in years.

In fact, my guard was so far down, I walked right up to the hotel without thinking of letting go of his hand… Until he let go of mine in the lobby so abruptly it was almost as if he’d shoved it away.

“Adam. I was beginning to worry that your father was wrong about you staying here.”

I turned towards the voice to find an elderly woman sitting on the new couch. She seemed physically weak despite the fact that her face looked eerily young, as if she’d had lots of work done on it.

Beside her, a porcelain skinned woman with deep red lips and shiny black hair was perched on the edge of her cushion, an expensive handbag resting on her lap like a cat.

“Mom,” Adam said, freezing where he stood.

I narrowed my eyes at her, and as they adjusted to the lights in the lobby, I realized that I did faintly recognize the woman. The younger lady, however, was definitely a new face, and she had that entitled look about her, like she couldn’t have lowered her nose if she wanted to.

Adam headed over to his mom.

She rose to her feet to greet him. “You forgot our anniversary, honey,” his mom said as she reached up to hug him.

“What are you doing here?” he asked.

She raised her painted eyebrows. “When Victoria said she couldn’t get you on the phone, I got very worried.”

“I’m fine,” he said. “You shouldn’t have traveled.”

I looked over my shoulder. One of the summer staff was standing behind the reception desk listening to headphones and swiping at her phone. Despite how horrified I was, I was relieved to see she was distracted.

“Excuse me.” His mother waved a finger at me. “Maybe you could arrange to have someone take our bags.”

  My lips fell apart.

“Actually,” Adam said, waving me over. “This is Jolie, Mom. You remember her.”

“Ah yes,” she said, looking at me like I was a piece of meat that had gone bad. “The little working girl who used to get you into so much trouble.”

I waited for her to smile but she didn’t.

Adam’s eyes were apologetic when he turned to me. “Jolie, this is my mother.”

  I stuck my hand out.

She looked at my hand like it was covered in shit, clasped her gloved fingers together, and then tilted one hand towards the younger woman. “And this is Victoria, Adam’s fiancée.”

  My heart stopped.

“She’s not my fiancée,” Adam said.

“It’s true,” Victoria said, her voice deeper than I would’ve guessed. “He hasn’t asked yet.”

“A minor detail,” his mother said, rolling her eyes. “You’re as good as engaged as far as I’m concerned.”

“Do you have a reservation?” I asked, my gag reflex twitching.

“We’re not even dating,” Adam said.

His mother pulled a white glove off and placed a hand on his forehead. “I think the heat is getting to you, dear. Perhaps you should have a seat.”

I glanced at him, letting him see the hurt in my eyes and regretting it immediately.

“We’ve already checked in,” his mother said without looking at me. “It’s just a matter of our bags.”

I felt the blood drain from my head. “I’ll have them taken to your roo-”

“You’ll do no such thing,” Adam said, putting his hand on my shoulder.

I shrugged it off and stepped back. “If you insist,” I said, not looking at him again. “Nice meeting both of you.” My voice was on the verge of cracking. “I hope you have a pleasant stay.”

“Jolie.” He grabbed my wrist as I walked away.

“What are you doing?” I asked, pulling my hand back.

His dark eyes looked desperate. “This isn’t what it looks like.”

“I’m sure it’s none of my business,” I said, my chest burning. “Good evening.”

I could feel his eyes on me as I walked down the hall. I wasn’t sure where I was going exactly, but I knew I needed to get away from the women who’d just shown up and pissed all around Adam before looking at me like I did it.

My hands were shaking so bad by the time I got to the parking lot that I dropped my keys twice before deciding to walk home.

It must’ve taken me at least half an hour to make the trip but it didn’t feel it. On the contrary, the fire in my legs propelled me forward so effortlessly that I walked into traffic twice without looking, not even realizing what I’d done until the honks and the flashing lights of the irritated drivers got my attention.

And the whole time, all I could think about was how stupid I’d been.

Why would I ever think a guy like that would go for a girl like me?

Even if I indulged myself enough to believe that his feelings for me had been genuine- that he hadn’t just been slumming it with a girl from the other side of the tracks- it was ridiculous to ignore the social pressures he’d grown up with.

Under no circumstance was Adam Darling ever going to end up with a girl who’d never left the country, a girl who’d never been to college, and a girl who could be seduced by nothing more than a takeout calzone and a free night under the stars.

  It was a joke.

And I could see that now.

He’d been taking what he wanted his whole life, and I’d only managed to get on his list of to do’s because I played hard to get when he first showed up.

But it was all a game, and I was a fool for playing it.

Worst of all, who knows how long I would’ve let him lead me on, how far I would’ve fallen, and how stupid I would’ve looked in the end when he disappeared as quickly as he’d arrived?

After all, the Prince never falls for Cinderella in real life.

Just like Adam Darling would only
fall for me if this were a fairytale.

  And it wasn’t.

And while there was no denying that my evening with him had been a dream come true, it was obvious that there would be no happily ever after.

  Chapter 30: Adam

I was so livid I could taste blood, and as soon as Jolie walked out, I was ready to start flipping tables in my own goddamn lobby.

Unwilling to let my staff hear the things that were going through my mind, I got my mom and Victoria’s bags to their rooms. Then I watched with folded arms as Victoria helped my mom take her cocktail of medications before kissing her good night.

Fortunately for my mother, she was too fragile for me to make a scene so late, but I figured the least I could do was make sure Victoria had a plane ticket home before I called it a night.

She pulled the door to my mom’s room closed as if there were a sleeping baby inside instead of a woman on a Kindle. “So how about that drink?” she asked.

“I’ve got some whiskey in my room,” I said, turning down the hall.

  “But I don’t drink whis-”

“You can have whatever’s in the mini bar,” I said, waving a hand in the air. “I need a whiskey.”

She followed me as best she could, though I knew I was walking too fast to accommodate her sky high heels.

When we reached my room, I swiped my keycard, opened the door for her, and flicked the light on as she went inside.

“The hotel is lovely,” she said.

I went straight to the mini bar. “What do you want? Vodka? Gin?”

“Vodka’s fine,” she said, sitting on the small couch like her tailored skirt wasn’t really meant to be sat in. “With cranberry juice if-”

“No mixers,” I said, tossing the small liquor bottle towards her.

She caught it but made a face like I’d hit her.

I opened the cupboard above the mini bar, removed a half empty liter of Black Bush, and poured myself a double.

  “So who was that girl?”

“Jolie,” I said, wondering where she’d gone and if she was okay.

She furrowed her thin brows. “I assumed that wasn’t her real name.”
