The Diary of a Natural Girl in a Supernatural World

“But there is plenty of truth in it. If you knew what I could do you would fear me. You would be less likely to make a deal if you were afraid of me. And the thing is we can’t manipulate you into making a deal. It does something to the soul… So you have to do it of your own volition.” Seth explained.
“And what exactly does it do to the soul?” I asked cautiously.
“I don’t know. I’ve never forced anyone into making a deal. I’ve never been that stupid.” Seth gave me a strained but reassuring smile.
“So what’s the difference when you make a deal with a supernatural?” I turned to look at him this time.
“We don’t make those kinds of deals very often.” His voice was low as he spoke it.
“And there’s a reason for that.” I assumed.
“Yes. Last time one of those deals went down WWII happened…” He trailed off.
“Wait… seriously? What happened to the demon?” I asked with wide eyes.
“He…” Seth’s attention shifted, “she’s leaving.” He started the car and effectively cut off the conversation.
“Oh come on!” I cried softly. Just when things were beginning to get interesting Lilly had to up and leave. She has poor timing.
It turns out we followed her for a whole lot of nothing. She did little all day and I hoped it wasn’t because she knew we were following her. I’ve been known to be wrong.
It was after midnight by the time I got home. I was so exhausted from doing nothing all day that when I turned on the light to my room I nearly had a heart attack.
“What are you doing here?” I asked Jade who was sitting at my desk and who clearly had the desk lamp on the whole time.
“I want to help you.” She admitted.
“Ok… first of all, how do you know I need help, second of all where the hell have you been?” I cried.
“I’ve been laying low. Liam helped me out. He knows more about this stuff than you think.” She spun a little in my chair.
“That doesn’t explain how you know that I need help.” She was acting suspicious if you ask me.
“You always need help.” She teased.
“Oh ha ha.” I replied sarcastically.
“But seriously, Liam told me. I figured it was my turn to pitch in. I don’t want to be a pawn anymore.” It was about time!
“Glad to know that you have come to your senses but how do I know I can trust you.” I probably shouldn’t have asked, I mean she was one of my best friends but I felt betrayed by the fact that she was now a vampire. That she had most likely asked for it.
“I’m still your friend. Look I’ll tell you everything I know about those Barbies and why they wanted me to spy on you. Just let me help you.” She begged.
“Ok… I guess I can give you that.” I shrugged unsure of what else to do.
She explained that someone wanted to keep an eye on me, that they wanted information on me. For some reason they wanted to keep tabs on me. I guess the person who was trying to kill me wanted to know? I have no idea.
Speaking of, he hasn’t been around for quite some time. I’m getting suspicious. Maybe he finally got smart and was using Jade for his dirty work.
Who knows? All I know is that tomorrow, Jade and I spy.
Joy.
Chapter 19: We’re kind of bad at Spying.

4:10 pm
I was pleased to find out that Jade thought that being a double agent was much more fun than being a spy. Or was she a triple agent… I have no clue. All I know is that finding Vlad was super annoying. A. because he wasn’t where Niklas said he would be and B. because he was really sleazy and I didn’t actually want to find him anyways.
Ok so, maybe this whole thing was a little bit ridiculous. I mean there are these dudes who want to enslave the human race. Who does that? I guess Supervillians in a comic book do but this isn’t a freaking comic book! Or maybe it is and I just don’t know it.
How do you tell if you in a work of fiction? The answer is you don’t.
DUN DUN DUUUUNNN!
I should probably get on with it and not get so distracted… Jade being Jade thought it would be a good idea to spy on the people who weren’t exactly looking for me or whatever. Apparently not Niklas’s parents and I did not like her idea about who we should spy on.
“Vlad. He’s perfect for this. You mentioned him in the meeting… He’s the only one other than some doofuses at school that we can spy on.” She suggested.
“Vlad?!” I cried. “Are you insane? He’s a psychopath. AND he’s a vampire put the two together and you end up with people like Ted Bundy. They’re so not the kind of people that you spy on!”
“I don’t know who else we’re supposed to look into…” She said slowly.
“I don’t freaking know, maybe you could play double agent and spy on the priss squad or something.” I suggested despite the fact I knew it would be shot down.
Why were my ideas always ignored?
“Why would they know anything? They won’t but their parents will. And it’s not like they would say anything around me anyways. They don’t exactly trust me.” She pointed out.
“Ugh. This is stupid.” I groaned. “Fine. Let’s go spy on Vlad. Just tell me where to find him first.”
“That might be the problem…” She trailed off.
“Problem how… You can find him can’t you?” I narrowed my eyes at her.
“Sure I can find him… it’s just where he’s probably at that’s going to be… interesting.”
“Oh no. I know this guy was a creeper… and here you are confirming my suspicions.” I muttered. “Where do you think he is?”
“Oh you know… here and there.”
“Is there a reason you’re avoiding my question? Because you know I will find out anyways considering the fact that we are going to SPY on the guy.”
“Oh boy. Yeah, let’s just go.” She grabbed my hand and pulled me out the door.
Stupid vampires and their stinking inhuman abilities. Maybe I should learn a party trick or two and send her on her way. See how she likes it.
“Where the hell are we going?!” I yelled.
She didn’t respond. The ass hat didn’t respond.
“This is great. Real great. I’m going to get eaten. That’s basically what I am getting from this right now.” I muttered as she continued to pull.
“Don’t be so dramatic.” And she stuffed me in the car. Like some sort of kidnap victim. Seriously, she just shoved me in the car. It doesn’t help that the windows were majorly tinted… vampire cars because of their stupid vampire eyes.
“Where the hell are we going anyways? I mean do you have a homing beacon on this dude?” I huffed.
She didn’t answer. Vampires must be allergic to answers.
She drove for quite some time, annoying me greatly. And then we were out in the middle of nowhere… which was a little bit creepy. There were like three building out there…
“Are you serious?! A warehouse?! A warehouse in the middle of nowhere?!” I cried.
“Yes a warehouse… kind of.” She shrugged and put the car into park.
“Oh no. This is some sort of super-secret vampire hide out and you’ve brought me here to sacrifice me.” I cried.
“I thought I told you to stop being so dramatic.” She quipped.
“Ok… you know what?” I breathed out. “Let’s do this… let’s get this over with so I can kick their asses.” I opened the car door and jumped out ready to… survey. Ok, not the best idea in the world but whatever.
She got out of the car shaking her head at me. “Just… follow me and don’t make a sound.”
“Oh, it’s one of those…” I rolled my eyes “I hope you know you totally just jinxed us.” I pointed out.
“Whatever.” She rolled her eyes at me. Oh boy! A typical vampire and a typical teen! Joyous day.
I hope you sense the sarcasm in that.
So what did we do? We went to the roof to
spy through some janky windows like real detectives.
“What are we even seeing here?” I asked in a loud whisper. “I can’t see a thing.”
“There’s nothing to see yet.” She pointed out.
“Well you continue to look through the filth. I’m going to…” I whipped over the window several times with little results but enough for me to be able to see in. “Ewwww….” I whispered.
“Yeah… vampires are gross.” She replied.
“You’re just now figuring that out?” I shook my head at her.
I really don’t want to explain what I saw. Let’s just say they’re dirty… really dirty.
I was bored after 20 minutes of sitting, waiting for ole vladdy Vlad to show up.
“Why am I even here again? Why couldn’t I have just sent you? I mean you could have at least gotten inside. Even if it were just in the lobby.” I teased her but only a little bit.
“You’re here because you’re the only one who can get in his head. You know connect the dots.”
“Right.” I replied sharply.
“Shhh…” She replied.
“Let me guess… there he is?” I shrugged.
“Yes. Now shut up.”
Vlad entered the warehouse and all gross activities ceased. One of the vampires in the room went to follow Vlad with a simple gesture. You know the “come follow me… I mean business” finger gesture librarians give you when you’re in trouble. Yeah that.
“Uh oh, something is going down.” I whispered.
“Thank you captain obvious.” She whispered.
“You’re welcome sergeant dooffus.” I replied with a mock salute.
Jade rolled her eyes. “Let’s find out what Vlad is up to.”
“Ol’ Vladdy poo? Ok.” I joked.
“What did you do? We have Anders and Rafe backing out of the deal. I thought you were handling this but clearly…” Vlad trailed off clearly displeased.
“I just need some time to work on the girl. She hasn’t been easy to find. My contact went dark.” The guy responded slowly.
“I want her dead yesterday. Not today, not tomorrow, yesterday!” he shouted. “She is a teenager, how hard can it be?!”
“She’s evaded the first two attempts. I turned one of her friends to spy on her so that my final attempt would not fail. I just need more time.” The guy commented.
“You’ve had enough time. I need this done. I need her out of the picture.” Vlad glared at the guy causing him to quiver. What a pansy.
“Yes sir.” He responded.
“Now, I’m going to take care of Anders and Rafe. We need their cities… she needs their cities. And you my friend have run out of time.” He spat. “Secure San Antonio and Nashville and kill the metahuman.”
“Sir?” The guy whimpered.
He grabbed the guy by the throat. (Like in the movies!) “If you’re the reason this falls through I will make sure you suffer a fate worse than death.” He growled. He threw the guy to the ground and spat on him. “Get out of my sight.”
The guy ran off in a hurry. I don’t blame him. I would to.
I suddenly came to a realization, “He’s trying to kill me isn’t he?” I asked Jade who looked completely horrified.
“Yes and now he knows we’re here.” I looked down only to find Vlad looking up, trying to make us out through the dirty windows.
“Mooottthhhherr….” I trailed off. “He saw us… he totally… screw it. RUN!” And I took off running.
Like a boss…
Kind of.
Chapter 20: Who are you again?
Sept 27, 2012
11:59 pm
As it turns out Vlad isn’t so good at catching a pesky teenager and her vampire sidekick because somehow we got away. What’s even better is that he never warned these dudes that we would be watching them. Maybe Vlad didn’t use his brain after all… Maybe all that old age just rotted it away.
When we finally figure out what this Rafe and Anders are up to I think we can figure out the missing piece to this puzzle. We can get all of these plans pieced together… at least I hope.
Anyways, Rafe and Anders are the kind of people… or rather supernatural beings that you really don’t want to get to know. Maybe have some ties with them so that you don’t get screwed over but getting too close is pretty much a death sentence.
I guess you could say that they’re like a gang or something. Mob bosses maybe. And that they run their prospective cities. That is what I gleaned from our first observation of them.
First impressions aren’t always accurate. That’s what Seth keeps trying to tell me. I think he’s trying to get me to believe that he’s not a perv or something. But it is way too late for that one.
Speaking of late… it seemed that Anders and Rafe were late for… whatever it was that they were supposed to be doing in this part of town. I guess I should keep better track of their events. Whoops.
I probably shouldn’t even be writing this stuff down. It’s kind of incriminating… isn’t it? Oh well! Let me get on with it.
Anders and Rafe were conveniently meeting one another downtown… or rather they were meeting one of Vlad’s minions.
When they walked in it appeared that they were already having a heated discussion about something. As they drew closer to our hiding place their conversation became apparent.
“You can’t back out now. They need us.” The taller one whispered.
“They don’t need us. They need Nashville and San Antonio. So I’m backing out now while I still have the chance.” The obviously more whimpy of the two said.
“You’re making a mistake. You won’t save anyone by backing out now.” The taller one growled. I could tell by his stance… and his eyes that he was a dragon.
“I’ll be saving myself. I can do more alive than I can do dead. That’s where this is going to get you Rafe.” He told the dragon, Rafe.
“We still need you on the inside. Our work isn’t done.” Rafe was slowly getting irritated with Anders.
“Look-“ Ander stopped and nodded to a guy walking to the warehouse behind them. It must have been Vlad’s man.
“Anders, Rafe.” The man greeted.
“Hello.” Anders replied politely and nodded at the man. They were clearly tense.
“Vlad has a message for you.” The man said. And I swear that phrase is never followed by anything good.
“Oh?” Rafe asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Yes, he says you’re moving too slow.” And the man pulled out a gun and fired a round into Ander’s head.
I almost cried out but held it in. I ducked not wanting to see anymore. But before I did I noticed Rafe launch into a hiding place.
The shuffle of footsteps echoed through the building and I final decided to peak out once again only to find that the man walked up behind Rafe who smirked, clearly amused that someone was trying to kill him.
He didn’t seem too bothered by the death of his colleague which disturbed me a little.
“Let’s get out of here…” Jade tried but I swatted out her. I was staying to see this through.
“That’s not going to work on me.” Rafe told the man as he turned slowly to face him.
“Oh really?” Clearly the man was far too confident.
“Really.” I muttered and raised my hand to stop him.
“Dia no.” Jade whispered she placed a hand on mine but I obviously didn’t need my hand to stop this guy.
I nodded and his gun swiftly went downwards and he shot his foot.
Rafe’s head snapped in our direction and we ducked as quickly as humanly possible.
“Oh hell… he saw us.” I whispered to Jade, who looked mildly horrified.
“Yes, I saw you.” I calm voice said above us. I assume at some point he moved to our hiding place. It’s actually really sad how easily he found us.
“Mother!” I shouted and jumped in surprise.
“I’m not your mother.” He replied calmly.
“Clea
rly you’re not.” I rolled my eyes. I’d be concerned if I was as attracted (and somewhat terrified) to my mother.
“Who are you and what are you doing spying on us?” He asked clearly not amused by a couple of teenagers. I mean really, he should have known that we were into some sort of shenanigans, all teenagers are.
