  “Did you miss me Brooke?”

I shook my head in amazement. He was always so sure of himself. Not a self-conscious bone in his body. It was sexy as hell.

  “How did you know?”

“I know more than you think I do. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure I know what you’re thinking.”

  I giggled.

“Oh really? What am I thinking?”

“You’re thinking about what a great pancake maker I am.”

We both laughed hard at his ridiculous statement.

“Right. That’s exactly what I was thinking. You should quit your day job and become a psychic since you’re so good at it.”

I rolled my eyes as I began to walk away.

“By the way, I let David know that neither of us would be in this week. I explained that you needed to take your vacation a little early.”

“And…what did you tell him you needed time off for?”

  His grin widened.

“I told him I needed to take care of my damsel in distress.”

“Oh my god! You didn’t tell him it was me, did you?”

“Well, I think he kind of figured that out when I told him that you were taking the week off. Geez, and you say I’m the one that’s slow.”

I picked up one of throw pillows off the loveseat and threw it at him. He tried to block the pillow coming at him but it smacked him right in the face. I stood there drinking him in. He was dressed in his ripped jeans and nothing else. I licked my lips and felt that delicious stir growing inside of me. He stood and prowled toward me like a panther going in for the kill. Brushing my hair from my face, he tucked a strand behind my ear and kissed me deep. All thoughts and doubts that I’d had earlier were suddenly now gone. Breaking the kiss he took my hand and led me to another room, a guest room. The room was large, spacious, decorated in dark pinks and creams, which happened to be my favorite colors. Disappointment filled me. Then reality punched me in the gut. You’re just a roommate.

It must have been the look on my face that gave me away but I couldn’t help wanting to be more than just Dylan’s roommate. He stepped closer to me and lifted my chin with his hand.

“This is just an option princess. You don’t have to sleep here if you don’t want to. I thought that if you needed some space, you could come in here. This is your room but I’d rather have you in my bed.”

I pulled him down for a soft, gentle kiss.

“I’d rather be with you too”, I told him. “Can we go to bed now?”

“We can do anything you want princess. Let me just shut down the computer and then I’ll join you.”

I was just about asleep when Dylan came in. I felt him curl up behind me, pulling me closer to him. I drifted in and out of sleep; it was difficult having him so close. My body was ached for his touch, the feeling of having him inside me. He looked so beautifully at peace when he slept and watching him do it was a precious gift. He was every fantasy I’d ever had, the man of my dreams. How could I not have seen how damaged Stefan and I were? Since I’d met Dylan, these questions came up more and more. I was exhausted, my hormones and emotions on overload. As I drifted off to sleep, the car was flipping; horrible screams of pain rang out, then…dead silence.

  CHAPTER 6

Waking up next to Dylan cuddling me was pure bliss. I felt refreshed and ready to take on the day. As much I was looking forward to going to work, I felt relieved that I didn’t have to. I had wondered how Dylan was able to get the week off since he was supposed to be my backup while I was gone. Then again, when your parents own the company you work for, I suppose getting time off isn’t much of a problem. I felt Dylan waking behind me and his hand stroking my arm.

“I love waking next to you, you’re so beautiful. I’d love to give you something this morning but it’ll have to wait. We need to find you a car princess. Plus, a little delayed gratification never hurt anyone.”

I rolled over and kissed him on his cheek and then hopped out of bed. For some reason I was excited to be looking for a car. I supposed it was because I would finally have something of my own, something that I paid for by myself. I loved my Audi but knew there was no way I could afford the payments. I wasn’t sure what I wanted but I was thinking something that was maybe a few years old, ran good and still looked nice. The payments would be manageable until I could get back on my feet and afford something better in the future.

Dylan slipped behind me in the shower. I thought it was time I returned the favor of washing him. He was so damn gorgeous, not a line on his face. I loved looking at him, touching him. I squeezed the mint scented body wash on my hands and rubbed him down. I paid special attention to the area around his cock and then proceeded to take him in my hand and slowly stroke him. He braced his hands along the shower walls, closed his eyes and parted his lips. Oh…this could be fun. I brought him just to the brink of orgasm and then pulled away, stepped out and wrapped a towel around me. He groaned and then cursed.

  “What the hell Brooke?”

“A little delayed gratification never hurt anyone, right cowboy? Isn’t that what you said?”

A small laugh escaped his chest.

“You’re right princess. But I didn’t rub you and get you all hot and bothered, then walk away. Now come finish what you started.”

  “No.”

I turned and walked back to the bedroom. I quickly put on my bra, panties and a pair of jeans. I didn’t have time to put on a shirt because Dylan was fast on my trail. He grabbed me from behind, spinning me to face him. He was dripping wet and gorgeous. He took my mouth, kissing me hard. I could feel the desperation in his kiss. He wanted me, needed me. His hands moved up and down my body, causing me to moan lightly. Then he pulled away and started dressing himself.

  “Hey”, I said.

“Two can play that game princess. Just think of how hot it will be when we get home later.”

“That’s if I can make it to later.”

His head spun around as he stared with shock.

“Well cowboy, women have needs to, you know. And stop looking at me that way.”

“What way am I looking at you Brooke?”

I rolled my eyes at him.

“Like you’re ready to devour me!”

“Bingo! I’m glad you finally understand. It took you long enough, you’re a little slow on the uptake there Brookie.”

  I laughed so hard.

“Did you just call me Brookie? Now that’s original.”

“Sure did. Now get your clothes on before I tie you to the bed and have my wicked way with you all day.”

My eyes widened. His voice had a serious undertone to it. The thought of being tied to Dylan’s bed excited the hell out of me. There was no doubt if I stayed in that room, that, that’s exactly what would happen. I quickly pulled on my sweatshirt and went to the kitchen.

I was pouring myself a cup of coffee when my phone rang. I looked down at the caller id and groaned. Shit. It’s my mom. Better answer it or she’ll never stop calling.

  “Hello.”

“Brooke. Where you have been? Your father and I have been worried sick about you.”

I rolled my eyes. Yeah I could just imagine my father being sick with worry. That was the joke of the century.

“Mom, I’m fine. I’ve been staying with a friend.”

“I know. Stefan called your father and told him that you left him. Your father is furious with you Brooke.”

“You know what mom, I bet he is. We all know how he feels about me. Why is daddy furious? Is it because Stefan threatened to pull his “daddy” funding away? Is that why mom?”

“Brooke Elizabeth Stone! Don’t talk about your father like that.”

“It’s true mom and you know it. Did Stefan bother to tell you why I left?”

“Yes. He said that you met someone at work and left him for another man; a younger model.”

“Mom he isn’t telling you the whole story.”

  “No sweetie, I didn’t think h
e was. Brooke what happened?”

I really didn’t want to hash this out with my mother over the phone but I didn’t want her to see me either. I had to tell her everything.

“Stefan has been cheating on me with his new assistant, Amber. When I confronted him about it he became physical and I had nowhere to turn. I called Dylan, which is someone that I work with and care for deeply. He has been letting me stay with him and helping me get things together so I can move on.”

“Oh my”, I could hear my mother sniffling on the other end of the phone.

“I’ve never liked that Stefan, Brooke. You know that. I always told you there wasn’t something quite right with that boy. I just don’t understand why your father loves him so much. He’s a worm.”

And there we had it. It was finally said. My mother never liked Stefan and my father adored him. That revelation felt like a hot knife cutting through my flesh.

“Come on mom, you and I both know why daddy loves him; because he’s not me. Daddy wanted a son, not a stupid girl. How many times has he told me that? He really didn’t want me after the accident. Don’t you remember how he used to always say that if I’d been born a boy, it wouldn’t have happened? That only females fuck up lives and that’s exactly what I’d done to his. I remember it quite well mom. I doubt that daddy even cares what kind of man Stefan is, as long as he continues to support you guys and daddy’s drinking binges.”

I could hear the tears in my mother’s voice.

“Your dad loves you Brooke. He just needs time to let go of the past. I think in some ways he feels guilty for all the pain that was caused. It affected his brother, Brooke. That accident didn’t just happen to you, it happened to all of us.”

“God mom, I know it happened to everyone. I live with it every day of my life and I have dad to remind me of it every chance he gets. He hates me so much that he’ll choose a man that likes to abuse women over his own daughter. I have to go mom, I can’t do this right now. I’ll call you later. I love you.”

  “I love you too, sweetheart.”

I hadn’t noticed but sometime during my conversation Dylan had entered the kitchen. He came up behind me and put his arms around my waist hugging me.

  “Tough call with your mom?”

  “Yeah.”

“Do you want to tell me about it? I’m a really good listener.”

I took a deep breath and sighed.

“Not now Dylan. I’ll tell you about it some other time.”

“Okay. By the way, when we head to court on Tuesday, you’ll have a private meeting with the judge. That way your case won’t be public.”

“Thank you”, I told him. “I appreciate everything you’re doing for me. I couldn’t do this without you.”

I wasn’t ready to spill the ugly secrets of my past just yet. He was doing so much to help me and it seemed that my fucked up life continued to become his problem.

We hopped on Interstate 36 and arrived at the BMW dealer. I was pretty sure that he’d lost his mind because there was no way in hell I could afford a car like that. We were met by a greedy sales person as we entered the lot scouting for my next car. I stopped when I saw the candy apple red M6. What a beautiful car. I knew it had to cost a small fortune but there was certainly no harm in looking at it. Dylan continued his conversation with salesman discussing safety ratings and gas mileage. I wasn’t sure this car would be the wisest purchase with Colorado winters. I continued reading the specs on the window and saw that it was rear wheel drive. Yeah, definitely not a car you want to drive in the snow. Maybe you should look at an SUV, something a little more practical. Then my eyes about bulged out of my head when I saw the price tag, one hundred fifteen thousand dollars. “You have got to be kidding me”, I said a little too loudly. Both Dylan and the salesman turned and looked at me. “Sorry”, I said. Dylan smiled and came to my side.

  “What’s the matter princess?”

“Nothing, I was just looking at the price of this car.”

“Yes. I know. That’s the base price. Do you like the car?”

“Of course I like the car! Who in their right mind wouldn’t? It’s beautiful but holy shit, that price is ridiculous for a piece of metal.”

“You do realize that your Audi cost about the same?”

“What? I knew the car was expensive but I had no idea that it cost that much. You also notice that I’m not the one who bought the car and you can also see that I am no longer driving it, right?”

  “Point well made princess”

He called the salesman over to us and told him to draw up the paperwork. I gasped.

“What the fuck are you doing?”

  “Buying this car, why?”

“Are you crazy? Don’t you have enough cars in your collection?”

He threw his head back and gave a hard, throaty laugh.

“Brooke you haven’t even begun to see my collection of cars but this car is not for my collection. This one is for you.”

“Dylan no, I can’t. I can’t accept this car. I can’t let you do this.”

“Let’s get one thing straight Brooke. You are not letting me do this, I want to do this and I am going to do this. The matter is closed. Now, tell him what upgrades you want in your car.”

I wanted to strangle him and I was pretty sure that his parents were going to be pissed too. I understood that money was no object for him, but for me, I needed to pay my own way. I had learned that early on and especially after my accident. I felt like Dylan was stomping all over my ethics but not completely and deep down, I was really excited that he was buying me the car.

“I can have anything I want in this car, right?”

  Dylan nodded. “Yes. Anything.”

“One more thing, I know it’s asking a lot, but can we put the car in my name, please?”

“Of course Brooke. What kind of an asshole do you think I am? Baby, I’m not Stefan. This car is one hundred percent yours, a gift from me to you.”

I threw my arms around his neck and gave a high pitched squeal. By the time I was finished barking out my demands the total price of my car was one hundred fifty two thousand dollars. Dylan pulled out his black American Express and handed it to the greedy salesman. The car cost more than my annual salary, but Dylan didn’t bat an eye at the price. As we prepared to leave the sales associate reassured us the car would be delivered to Dylan’s house by the end of the week.

I came skipping out of the dealership like a kid in a candy store. When we left we got back on the interstate and headed west towards Boulder. We stopped for lunch at a small burger joint and sat talking about places that we had been and places that we wanted to visit. I had told Dylan that I’d always wanted to visit Ireland, Spain and Italy. All places that he had travelled. He had been damn near everywhere on the planet. I felt envious and knew that if I hadn’t fucked up when I was younger, I probably could have travelled a lot more myself. I didn’t grow up poor. My parents always had money. My father was a hardworking business man who had always provided well for his family. I had hoped our relationship would get better as time passed, but history had shown that wasn’t happening. I wasn’t sure that bridge would ever be gapped.

The rest of the afternoon was spent driving up the canyon and stopping to take pictures of one another in front of a beautiful waterfall. A nice, newly married couple approached us and asked if we would like our picture taken together. “Sure”, we said. It was the first picture we’d had taken together. The background was gorgeous, just like the man standing next to me. I doubted he ever took a bad picture. Me on the other hand, my hair was flying everywhere and I didn’t have make-up on so I looked about as pale as a ghost. And the photo turned out beautiful considering we had used a cell phone to take it. Dylan looked young and carefree as we played in the water, splashing, kissing; holding each other tight. I never wanted to let him go. I was falling deeper in love with him.

Arriving back at the penthouse just after dark, we entered the large foyer. I pushed Dyla
n against the wall, placing my hands on his cheeks, lifting his face to mine. I gave him a light kiss on the lips and took his hand leading him to the bedroom. He pulled me close, cupping my ass, my body immediately responding to his touch. He grabbed my hair and pulled giving it a light tug, then kissed me hard; his tongue dancing around my mouth like a starving man. I moaned and moved in closer, pressing my body hard against his. I’d been waiting for this moment since we’d woken up this morning. “Mmm”, I moaned against him. I reached down and unbuttoned his jeans, sliding my hand in front of his tented boxers. I could feel his cock growing thicker and hotter and it made me ache for him even more. I broke the kiss pulling his shirt over his head and helping him out of his jeans then led him to the bed. Dylan lay flat on his back as I kissed my way down his chest down to that dark little happy trail on his belly until I reached his cock. I slid his boxers off, feathering light kisses around the reddened and throbbing head, teasing him. He gritted his teeth and let out a low hiss. He bucked under my touch eager for my mouth on his dick but I kept teasing. I worked my tongue up and down his shaft taking it as deep into my mouth as I could, flattening my tongue against the warm, stiff flesh. Dylan moaned as he ran his fingers through my hair.

“God Brooke, that feels so good. Your mouth…oh god.”

I moaned sending vibrations on his cock that nearly made him jump from pleasure.

“Fuck yeah! Suck my cock princess.”

I took my hand and jerked him off as I sucked his thick, round head. I lapped at it as if it would melt. I couldn’t get enough of Dylan. Everything about him consumed my senses, emotions, body, my soul. He was delicious, hot and filling; giving my tongue a workout. I was so enthralled with him, in love with him and enjoying myself when he grabbed my hair and pulled me off making a popping sound.

  “I wasn’t done”, I whimpered.

“You are done”, he said. “If I didn’t stop you, I would have come in that pretty mouth and then this would all be over; at least for a little while.” He smiled. “I want you to feel good too Brooke. Besides, I love how wet your pussy gets for me.”
