All my life, I was convinced that I had no talent. I was picking berries in Kimito when the idea to start a travel journal popped in my head. It turned into a profitable blog in less than a year, allowing me to go on with our trips without worrying about finances.
All these years, I was in touch with my mother, and gradually the bitterness between us subsided. I visited the house I grew up in, and my mother was excited to see me while my father just nodded, blurting out a cold hello. Stubborn and hardheaded like always. Somehow, I believe he regretted his shitty behavior, but he was too proud to admit it. I think part of growing up was realizing that forgiving my father was doing a favor to myself. I wasn’t angry with him anymore. As a matter of fact, I pitied him.
We then went to Kyrenia—Girne as Emir prefers to call it—and I waited at a cafeteria while he returned from his parents’ house. He got to meet his nephew, too, who was six now. Emir had been in touch with an old neighbor he had in Nicosia, but unfortunately, he could only visit her grave.
Recently, we decided to settle in Cyprus, and yesterday we moved into a house we rented in the countryside. Tonight, we plan to go in the woods to observe the full moon like we usually do. We step out of the house, holding hands, right before midnight, and walk through the trees. This part of the forest is one of the few that didn’t burn to ashes from the fires that took place here every summer. In front of us, there is an exquisite place on a little hill. He lies back, holds my hand, and turns his gaze toward me.
“For thirteen years, you have lit up my world. I feel like my life started when I met you. I’m grateful, but I’m greedy too. I want more and more and more…. Thirteen years is like a minute, and one lifetime will not be enough to satisfy my hunger for you. Be prepared to have me in your next life too.”
“My love,” I whisper, “you can always directly ask for sex.”
“Hey!” he protests. “I’m trying to be romantic here. Don’t ruin it.”
“Romance isn’t your niche, baby. Sex is.” I laugh.
“It’s already past midnight. Happy anniversary.” He scoots closer and gives me a kiss before resting in my arms.
“We’re having outdoors sex to celebrate, right?” I tease.
My love, my home, my evergreen, always breaking down my barricades.
DEM HAD has never been diagnosed with ADD, but it’s common for her to start talking about cats and end up mentioning the stars while using metaphors about food, just after she’s told you about a childhood memory.
As a cynical romantic and a lover of dark romance, she loves pushing her characters to their limits and refuses to give them their happy ending if they don’t work hard to earn it.
She has a soft spot for manga, anime, and anything regarding the Japanese culture. She loves spending time with her son, playing music with her husband, and posting on www.instagram.com/demhad88 or www.twitter.com/dem_had about writing and her life as a cat-mother. You can also find her in the roads of Limassol driving and singing with the windows wide open.
Dem’s writing journey has just begun.
