Just What The Doctor Ordered: A Lesbian Romance

“If you go inside, I’ll show you just how happy I am.” Rachel pushed past Alexandra and opened the door for her.
They ran for the stairs and by the time they hit the master bedroom, their clothes laid on the floor. As their bodies came together, a moan left both their mouths.
Alexandra’s hand went to Rachel’s core. “You’re so wet already.”
“I’ve been like that for hours,” Rachel said against Alexandra’s neck. “I couldn’t stop thinking about you all day.”
“Are you saying I’m a distraction?”
Rachel nodded. “A wonderful distraction.” Her hands pushed Alexandra gently onto the bed and they found themselves lying face to face. “I love you Alex.”
“I love you too, Rachel.”
Rachel looked at her face. “Show me how much.”
With the dare, Alexandra flipped Rachel over and began to suckle her breasts. Her hand touched the skin along her stomach in a teasing fashion. Rachel’s hips rose trying to will Alexandra’s hands to where she wanted her the most.
“Patience, honey.” Alexandra whispered softly.
“I can’t wait, Alex. Please touch me,” she said as her hips found Alexandra again.
Alexandra’s mouth gave her a blazing kiss as her fingers touched the swollen clit. “So hot,” Alexandra moaned against Rachel’s mouth. Her fingers moved with determination along the slick folds. Rachel was writhing under her and then she filled her with two fingers. Again, the hips moved wildly and Alexandra knew from Rachel’s movements that she was near an orgasm. Before she allowed her to come, her mouth covered her.
“Alex.” Rachel screamed as her mouth and fingers brought her to a fierce orgasm. She made sure Rachel was able to squeeze every ounce out of the orgasm before her fingers and mouth stilled. “What you do to me, woman,” Rachel said still trying to get her breathing under control.
Alexandra crawled up Rachel’s body and rested her chin on her chest. “You do that to me too, baby.”
Dinner and sleep didn’t happen until both women were sated.
CHAPTER TWENTY SIX
Alexandra was in the kitchen waiting for Rachel to come downstairs. As Rachel approached her hands went to Alexandra’s waist, and she kissed the back of her neck. “Good morning, Alex.”
Alexandra turned into her arms. “Good morning, Doctor Benson,” she said with a light kiss on her lips.
Rachel leaned back. “So formal this morning.” A grin appeared on her lips.
“If I’m not, we’ll never get out of here today.” Alexandra kissed her again.
“Good thing we have a short day today.” Rachel nibbled on Alexandra’s earlobe. “I have plans for us this afternoon.”
“I love Wednesdays,” Alexandra said stealing another kiss.
Rachel left for the hospital and Alexandra went next door to work.
At two o’clock, the three women were ready to leave the office. As Alexandra grabbed her things, her cellphone rang. “Hi, hon.”
“Hey. I’m still here. I’m waiting for the results of a test on Mrs. Warner.”
Alexandra tried to keep the disappointment out of her voice. “That’s okay. Take your time. I’ll be waiting.”
“I wish I was there right now,” Rachel said with a groan.
Alexandra giggled. “You have to concentrate, honey.”
“I know. I know. I’ll see you in a little while.” All Rachel heard was a giggle as she disconnected the line.
*
Alexandra decided to do laundry while she waited for Rachel to get home. She had just put the laundry in when the doorbell rang. Alexandra straightened her t-shirt as she walked to the front door. “Mrs. Benson.”
“Where’s my daughter?” Roberta Benson asked as she pushed past Alexandra.
“Rachel is at the hospital.”
Roberta looked at Alexandra as if she were an intruder. “Then what are you doing here?”
“Uh, I,” she said trying to find the words to tell this woman the truth. Alexandra took a deep breath. “I live here.”
Roberta walked up to Alexandra and looked down at her with disdain. “What are you after? Is it my daughter’s money?”
“Mrs. Benson, I have no interest in Rachel’s money.”
“I know what type of family you come from. I know they don’t have much money.”
Alexandra stood her ground. “We may not have had a lot of money, but we had plenty of love.”
“Love,” Roberta said with a grunt. “You saw my daughter was your meal ticket from the moment you met her.”
“I love Rachel.”
“Love. What do you know about love?”
“More than you obviously. If I was interested in money, I would have continued to see Natalie.”
“So you dated Natalie first? Sure, you must have driven my daughter crazy with jealousy dating her. You knew that would get her to ask you out.”
Alexandra went to the front door and opened it. “I think you should leave.” Roberta didn’t move. “Now,” Alexandra said firmly.
Roberta looked at her and mumbled, but she left.
Once the door was closed, Alexandra sat down in the nearest chair. Her legs felt wobbly.
As Roberta drove away, she called Rachel’s cellphone. “Hello, Mother,” Rachel said solemnly.
“Why is that woman living in your house?” Roberta asked without greeting her daughter.
“You were at the house?” Rachel asked swallowing hard.
“And she’s working with you again, isn’t she?” Roberta didn’t wait for an answer. “You’ve lost your mind, Rachel. Can’t you see she’s after your money?”
Rachel laughed loudly. “You have no idea what you’re talking about. You have no idea how much Alex loves me. How much I love her.” Rachel sighed. “You just don’t get it.”
“Why didn’t you just let Natalie have her? Natalie would have had the sense to see she’s just a gold digger.”
“I’m sorry, Mother that you just don’t get it. I love Alex with all my heart and no one, including you, is ever going to change that.” Rachel disconnected the call without waiting for a response.
By the time Rachel walked into the house, the downstairs was empty. She turned and saw the laundry basket half filled with clothes. Rachel went to the stairs and took them two at a time. She found Alexandra in their bed lying on top in a fetal position. Rachel walked over to the bed and sat on the edge. “I’m sorry, Alex.”
Alexandra just nodded quietly as Rachel rubbed her back. “Why does she hate me so much?” Alexandra asked choking out the words.
“Because she’s a cold-hearted bitch. She always has been,” Rachel said spewing her words like venom.
Alexandra rolled over and looked at Rachel. “I’m sorry for causing such a rift in your family. This is all my fault. Maybe we shouldn’t be together.”
“Oh, honey. I told you that rift was there before you ever came into my life. I love you, Alex. No one is ever going to come between us. Not even my mother.” Rachel’s hand went to Alexandra’s face as she wiped away the tears. “No one, Alex. Do you hear me?”
Alexandra nodded as the tears continued to fall quietly. “I love you, Rachel.”
Rachel squeezed her tight to her body. “Good, because I love you too.”
*
Rachel and Alexandra never did get to making love that night nor the next few days. She knew Alexandra was still upset from her mother’s visit. Each day she tried to reassure Alexandra, but it didn’t seem to help. Even Helen and Callie noticed the change in Alexandra.
“Is Alexandra sorry that she came back to work here?” Helen asked Rachel one afternoon.
Rachel shrugged. “Maybe.”
“Why? What did you do?” Helen asked, leaning closer to Rachel.
“I didn’t do anything. Alex had a visit from my mother.”
“Oh lord,” Helen said, covering her mouth.
Rachel nodded. “Yeah. More like holy shit.”
“What
did she do to her?”
“I was at the hospital and don’t know exactly what was said. My mother called me after her visit. She said Alex was a gold digger and I should have let Natalie have her. That she would have seen right through Alex and known she was a gold digger.”
“Poor Alexandra,” Helen said almost in a whisper. “Alexandra is no more a gold digger that I am Miss America.”
Rachel chuckled. “I’m afraid our relationship will never be the same again because of my mother.”
“Do you want me to talk to her?” Helen asked, gently touching Rachel’s arm.
Rachel shook her head. “Alex’s has to work this out on her own. All I can do is keep showing her how much I love her.”
Helen nodded in agreement, but she knew she wasn’t going to risk Alexandra leaving the office again. The following morning while Rachel did her rounds, she sat next to Alexandra. “How’s it going, Alexandra?”
“Fine,” Alexandra said, starting her computer.
“I heard you had a visit from Roberta,” Helen said, trying to get Alexandra to look at her.
Alexandra nodded, and frowning she looked at Helen. “Yeah.”
“You know that woman hasn’t liked any woman that Rachel has been with?”
“I guess Roberta is the reason no one stuck around.” Alexandra growled.
“I wish I could say yes, but they were never keepers. You are a keeper, Alexandra.”
Alexandra looked into Helen’s eyes. “How can I be with someone whose mother hates me?”
“People do it every day. My mother-in-law and I never got along, but I loved Stanley every day of his life. More important, he loved me.” Helen took her hand. “You can’t let Roberta get in the way of your happiness. Don’t give her that power. If you break up with Rachel, Roberta’s won.” Helen stood. “Well, I’ve said my piece. If you need to talk, you know where to find me,” Helen said with a smile and a pat to Alexandra’s shoulder.
“Thanks, Helen.” Alexandra was even more confused than she was before.
CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN
Alexandra had been in bed for a half hour when she heard Rachel come in the back door. Rachel turned off the light that Alexandra had left for her and climbed the stairs in the dark. She came into the bedroom and without turning on a light, she went into the bathroom. Alexandra laid there listening as the shower went on and then off a few minutes later. Once Rachel finished with her nightly routine, she came out of the bathroom and climbed into bed.
“How is Mrs. Hoskins?” Alexandra asked into the quiet.
“We have to run more tests tomorrow. I’m sorry if I woke you up,” Rachel said touching Alexandra’s arm.
“You didn’t.” Alexandra moved closer. “Where are your pajamas?” she asked, feeling Rachel’s naked skin.
“I didn’t want to hunt around in the dark for something to put on. I was afraid I would wake you up.”
Alexandra laid her head on Rachel’s shoulder. “I’m sorry that I’ve been distant lately.”
“I understand, Alex.” Rachel’s hand gently rubbed Alexandra’s back. “It’s all my fault anyway.”
“It’s not your fault, Rachel.” Alexandra turned on her side so she could see Rachel’s face. “I need you to not cut your family out of your life because of me.”
“But, Alex. I don’t want them to hurt you anymore,” Rachel said, rubbing her hand up and down Alexandra’s arm.
“It would hurt me more if you stopped speaking to them.”
“You are amazing.” Rachel kissed her lips gently. “Suppose they stop speaking with me?”
“They won’t once you show them I’ve signed a pre-nup.”
“What pre-nup? I don’t want you to sign anything.”
“Rachel, I’m bringing nothing to this relationship except for some savings. You have a house and a business.” Alexandra sighed. “If we break up, I don’t want any of that.”
Rachel picked up Alexandra’s hand and kissed her palm. “We’re not breaking up. Ever,” she said emphatically.
Alexandra smiled. “I know that, but I want your family to feel that you are protected. It’s such a small thing, Rachel.”
“Alex, you contribute so much to my business. We couldn’t take care of our patients without you doing all that you do.”
“And for that, you pay me a salary. That’s all I want.” Alexandra slid closer. “I want to contribute to the household too.”
“That isn’t necessary, Alexandra.”
“I know it’s not, but I want to.”
*
Rachel went to see her lawyer as Alexandra asked and they came up with an agreement. It was signed and now sat in Rachel’s pocket as she drove to her parent’s home.
“Rachel,” Roberta said as she opened the front door. “It’s so good to see you.”
“Mother,” Rachel said as she stepped inside. “I came to invite you and Dad to brunch on Sunday.”
Roberta took a seat on the couch before responding. “Darling, you can come here for brunch. This way you won’t have to worry about cooking.”
“Alex and I want to cook for you.” Rachel never took her eyes off her mother’s face.
Roberta couldn’t hide her scowl. “So you’re still seeing her?”
“Mother, I have no intention of breaking up with Alex. I love her.”
“You’re just so blinded by love that she is going to take you for everything that you have.” Roberta’s head shook in disgust.
Rachel reached into her pocket and stood in front of her mother.
“What’s this?” Roberta asked looking at the papers.
“Read it,” Rachel said with a scowl.
Roberta read through the first paragraph and quickly understood what she was reading. She looked at Rachel’s face before she continued reading. Going to the last page she saw it was signed and notarized. “Pre-nuptials can be broken.” She shoved the papers back into Rachel’s hand.
“I told Alex that this wasn’t necessary.” Her head shook. “She doesn’t want me to be estranged from my family. That’s why I’m here, but if you can’t treat my future wife with respect…” Rachel didn’t finish because she was trying to do what Alexandra wanted. “I will not cut you and Dad out of my life, but it’s up to you. We will expect you at two o’clock. If you’re not there, I have my answer.” Rachel stood up. “Goodbye, Mother.”
*
“Have you heard from your parents?” Alexandra asked Sunday morning.
“Nope.”
“What are we going to do?”
“We’re going to make the meal we were going to make and if they show up fine. If not, we don’t have to cook tomorrow evening,” Rachel answered with a shrug.
The two women went about preparing the meal. The doorbell caused them both to jump.
“They came,” Alexandra whispered. Rachel just stood there. “Go open the door,” Alexandra said with a chuckle as she pushed Rachel out of the kitchen.
Rachel took a deep breath before she opened the door. “Mom, Dad, please come in.” She stood to the side allowing them to enter.
“Rachel,” Roberta said with a quick hug.
“Hello, Rachel,” Steven said with a similar hug.
“Brunch is just about ready. Why don’t you sit down at the table and I’ll get you something to drink.” Rachel led them to the table.
“Hello, Alexandra.” Roberta and Steven said as they took their seats.
“Thank you for coming,” Alexandra said walking out of the kitchen. “We’re happy that you both came,” she said wearing a wide smile.
Rachel brought out the mimosas. “Yes, we’re both happy to see you,” she said wrapping her arm around Alexandra.
The food was placed on the table and Alexandra and Rachel took their seats.
“Everything smells wonderful,” Roberta said.
“Alex is a much better cook then I am, but I’m getting better. She’s teaching me a lot.” Rachel smiled at Alexandra.
“Maybe
you can teach my wife,” Steven said to Alexandra with a wink.
“Thank you, Steven. I’ll remember that when you want me to cook dinner.”
“Honey, I’m only teasing you.” Steven looked at Alexandra. “So you’re back working with Rachel again?”
“Yes, sir. I enjoy my job.”
“We couldn’t find anyone that could do the job when Alex left. Helen was beside herself.”
“So when are you two getting married?” Roberta asked.
“Sometime early spring of next year.” Rachel answered.
“Have you picked a venue yet?”
“Not yet. We want a small wedding. Just family and a few friends.”
Roberta nodded. “You can always get married on the beach at our house.”
Rachel looked at Alexandra and smiled. “We might take you up on that.”
“The house is big enough to entertain at least fifty people.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Benson. That’s very nice of you.”
“You only get married once and I want my daughter to be happy.”
“I am happy, Mother. Alex makes me very happy.”
“Rachel makes me very happy too,” Alexandra said, taking Rachel’s hand.
“I can see that,” Roberta said softly, and Steven touched his wife’s hand gently.
Alexandra’s cellphone rang. “I’m sorry, but that’s my mother.” She stood up and went to the phone. “Hi.” Alexandra walked toward the stairs. “No, I haven’t talked to her today.” She went up the stairs.
“Thank you for coming today,” Rachel said to her parents. “This meant a lot to Alex.”
“Did we have a choice?” Roberta asked sharply.
“There is always a choice, Mother.” Rachel sighed loudly. “I don’t care if this is just a show, but you’re making Alex very happy.”
Alexandra came back down the stairs smiling. “I’m sorry.”
“Is everything okay back home?” Rachel asked, as Alexandra took her seat.
“My sister is pregnant,” Alexandra said grinning.
“That’s wonderful, Alex,” Rachel said, taking Alexandra’s hand.
“Congratulations, Alexandra,” Steven said grinning. “Is this her first child?”
