  “Not at this time—”

“I’m Ellis,” I squeak, stepping out from under Hujun’s arm and thrust my hand towards the stranger. His eyes widen in surprise, and for a moment, I think he’s not going to take my hand. In my time on Hethdiss, I guess I’ve forgotten my place. This Sidyth, from Hujun’s homeland, might see me as nothing more than a whore who spreads her legs for money. I don’t know how much the other Sidyths know about the exiled ones, and realizing my mistake, I lower my hand.

And then the stranger takes it and falls to one knee.

“I am Yayk of the third clan.” He presses his lips to my knuckles. As I’m about to lose my breath, he stands again. “That is how humans like to be greeted, yes? I saw a movie on the black market and watched it a bit on the way here. Humans are a primitive lot, but that does not mean they are not beautiful.” He tilts his head to the side as though taking me in with greed and possession in his eyes.

It’s nice to be looked like this for a change.

I can’t help but snicker. “You watched a human film on the way here?”

He lowers his chin and then lifts it slowly, keeping my hand in his. “It was… interesting. But beautiful. Like you.”

I blush at this and Hujun suddenly stands closer to me.

“Thank you for the delivery again, Yayk. I will be sure to pass the information to Prince Korben of your travels.” His hand tugs me not-too-gently away from Yayk’s touch.

“Yes, well. The pleasure was all mine. I must be honest, I did not wish to make this trip until I heard of the fee provided, but now that I have seen the beauty kept here, this will not be my last visit.”

I flush again as he stares, and the tingling sensation between my thighs returns with a vengeance.

“We should go.” Hujun yanks the massive sack away from Yayk’s hands. “I did not think this was going to be a pleasure visit.”

“Maybe it should be.” Yayk bursts out into ear-splitting laughter again. He laughs a lot, but maybe he’s uncomfortable. I know I am. I’ve never had a Sidyth look at me with so much raw lust. I’m losing control, practically gravitating towards his chuckles and warm smile.

Since arriving on Hethdiss, I’ve only seen Sidyths with tiny shorts, so it’s jarring to see one in something that could only be described as a space suit. Luckily, it’s still Black and body-hugging so it’s easy to glimpse over his fit physique. I really don’t think I’d mind him staying the night.

“You could stay,” I say stupidly. “We have plenty of room and—”

“That would not be appropriate,” Hujun says, a hiss entering his tone. “Deliveries are to be made promptly and discreetly. Having a ship stay here overnight—”

“I could put on the cloaking device.”

“He could put on the cloaking device.” I smirk at Hujun. He’s not smiling. In fact, he looks pretty fucking pissed. I’m being cruel, I know that. I’m not so stupid not to know that, but I’m also kind of enjoying watching Hujun squirm a bit. He doesn’t want Yayk to stay. I want him to say why. If he calls me his. If he says he’s going to Choose me, I’ll back down. I have no intentions of sleeping with Yayk, but I have to say if he wants to make out, I’m not sure if I’ll say no.

“Ellis is with me for the night,” Hujun says in a low hiss. “Prince Korben would not appreciate a delivery vessel staying on Hethdiss overnight. Cloaking device or not.”

“With you?” Yayk ignores most of what Hujun’s said and arches a curious eyebrow. “Have you Chosen her?”

Hujun stiffens. “I have Chosen no one at this time.”

  “Huh.”

An awkward silence falls over the three of us. I’m not sure if Hujun is going to punch Yayk in the face, Yayk’s going to laugh some more and invite me into his ship, or I’m going to leave and hope Hujun’s learned a lesson. It’s obvious he doesn’t want to Choose me yet, but he’s sure making it obvious I’m not supposed to be with other Sidyths. And that’s not fucking fair – paid Human Whore or not.

“You should at least come to look at the lair,” I say, moving out from Hujun’s arm and stepping back in the direction of the caves. “It’s wonderful. I don’t know if you heard, but we’re celebrating Christmas.”

“Seeing as he purchased and delivered the supplies, I am sure he is aware,” Hujun hisses, his tone not too warm, but he follows me anyway as though he can’t let me get four feet away from him unless I’m in the Gathering Room.

“I am aware of this, yes,” Yayk says, and I can hear him rustling closer to us. “You know what? You talked me into it! I’d love to take a look at the lair where Prince Korben is currently residing. I will cloak the ship. I will not stay the night, but a few hours would not hurt, right? I’m sure Dolan and Azan and Glykoran are curious about what’s going on at home, yes?”

Another hiss escapes, but Hujun doesn’t stop Yayk from jogging next to us. In fact, he doesn’t say anything.

And suddenly, I’m not so sure if making Hujun jealous was the right move.

Maybe that’s because Yayk not-so-playfully slaps me on the ass on the way back. I hiss in surprise and start to dart around, but all I see is a wall of flesh rushing at me and instinct kicks in.

If Hujun hears any of this, he doesn’t say anything.

  He doesn’t stop him.

Thick arms wrap around my waist right as I’m turning around in a desperate attempt to get Hujun’s attention.

“If you are not Chosen, you are available for pleasure, yes?” he asks, still chuckling into my ear. I freeze up, wanting to call for Hujun who’s moved a few steps ahead of me and talking to Glykoran. He doesn’t turn back.

The air feels like it’s been sucked from my lungs as Yayk pulls me against his chest.

“Come back to my ship for a moment. I’ll be sure to take you back. Once I’m finished.”

A scream starts to escape my throat, but Yayk’s already covered my mouth with a rough hand. I try to bite, hoping to catch him off guard, but all I can taste are the strange, velvety scales covering his palm. The fucker is still laughing. I’m scared now. I’m terrified and regretting everything I’ve done. I should have never teased this stranger. He’s not an exiled Sidyth. He’s from their home planet. He said that creepy greeting to Hujun. I should have known.

“Relax,” Yayk purrs, lifting my feet off the ground as I struggle to get away. “You are used to this, yes? You are used to giving pleasure. You are used to receiving it. You are bought and paid for. I have always wanted a human for a try, but I could never afford one, even to borrow at the King’s social galas. How unfair, yes?”

My response is a muffled cry complete with tears as I’m dragged further away from the lighted lair.

Does Hujun even notice I’m gone?

  Does he care?

  He doesn’t care.

  Otherwise, he’d be here…

“You are a tiny one,” Yayk whispers in my ear, slamming my back against one of the dark purple palms. There’s still rain falling, but Yayk doesn’t seem to mind as he quickly descends on me, bending at the waist and covering my mouth before I can get out a scream. I’m crying now, but this only seems to excite him. “I knew humans were small, but you’re like a sprog. I’m worried my cock is going to break you.” Chuckling, he keeps one hand over my mouth and uses the other to remove his massive cock from his pants.

Fucksicle. He’s huge. And scaled. Yayk’s dick is going to come out of my mouth if he tries to stick in my pussy.

“Please,” I try begging through his fingers. “I’m Chosen. I’ve Chosen.”

He laughs and slowly strokes his thickening cock. “Chosen? You’ve Chosen?” I nod. “Humans don’t choose. And Hujun said he hadn’t Chosen you, so as far as I know, you are available for pleasure. I intend to take it. I’d advise you not to scream, love.” As though to prove his point, he thrusts a thick scaled finger between my lips and curls it around my tongue. “I’ll pull this thing right out. You don’t need a tongue to pleasure my cock with your mouth.”<

My eyes widen, and of course I fall silent.

I did this. I wanted to piss off Hujun… and it didn’t even work.

And now I’m about to get raped.

I’m used to it, but there’s something so much worse this time.

I thought someone would stop it. I thought someone cared about me.

  I thought…

“DON’T TOUCH HER!” A voice thunders from behind Yayk. And before I can my savior is, my soon-to-be rapist has been pulled away from me and thrown back a few feet. Yayk’s heavy body slams into the trunk of a palm and shakes violently before getting to his feet.

I gasp, and collapse to the muddy ground, but not before legs as thick as tree trunks settle in front of me, putting themselves between me and Yayk. I look up. Hujun. He’s breathing hard, as though he can barely control his anger, and I’m so afraid if I touch him, he’ll lash out at me. I remain silent as the two massive Sidyths stare each other down only a few feet apart from one another.

“What are you doing?” Yayk asks, spittle foaming from his mouth. “She’s human! You haven’t Chosen her—”

“Hethdiss is not the fatherland,” Hujun rumbles shortly.

“But she wanted it. You saw her look at me. You cannot say she did not want me to take her.”

“I will talk to her and see if this is true. But for now, you are no longer welcome. Go to your ship, Yayk. Go now and I will tell no one here of this. If word gets back to Kydaris from Azan or Dolan—”

“I will go,” Yayk grumbles, shuffling past Hujun and I. Hujun shifts his body so there’s never an opening, and I all but cower away from the chuckling Sidyth with kind eyes and malicious intentions. “You will say nothing of this to Azan or Dolan. But you saw her, Hujun. You saw—”

“I said I would speak to her. There may have been miscommunication between the two of you. Humans are not Sidyths.”

  “But the women—”

“This is not the fatherland. We do not follow the same belief system anymore, Brother. We believe in consent on Hethdiss.”

Yayk points a thick, accusing finger at me. The same finger that could have ripped out my tongue only moments earlier. Suddenly, he’s not so cute. He’s terrifying. He’s the Sidyth Human Whores fear. Hujun and Korben, even Dolan and Exer, they truly aren’t like the others we’ve worked for. I wish I hadn’t only just realized this now.

“She is human,” Yayk hisses. “You’re telling me humans can say no to pleasure? From one of us? Look at her. I will not ask something so insignificant for consent.”

“Then I’m afraid you’re on the wrong planet,” Hujun says, taking a step closer to Yayk. Shockingly, the other Sidyth moves back a few feet closer to his ship. “Go now and this will not be mentioned to anyone.”

Yayk holds up his hands, spitting once more into the dirt. That lazy smile appears on his face again, only this time it sends a chill of fear through my spine. I remain seated, watching the two finish their conversation, looking larger than life.

I wouldn’t have been able to stop him. If Hujun hadn’t come for me, I wouldn’t have been able to stop Yayk. He would have raped me. Maybe even killed me.

I could have died, and I would have had nothing to blame other than my stupid desire to make Hujun jealous.

“I’m not about to lose any reputation over a Human Whore. Consider this moment an unmentionable.”

  “Noted. Now go.”

Hujun doesn’t have to ask twice as Yayk stumbles back to his ship, glancing over his shoulder a few times to make sure Hujun isn’t following him. It’s good to see him in fear for once, and only once the ship is gone from my vision after another firework in the sky, I stare at Hujun who’s holding his hand out towards mine. I can’t get a read on his face. I can’t figure out what he’s thinking, but I was in the wrong. And if it wasn’t for him coming back, I might be nothing more than a decomposed body by the time we celebrated Christmas on Hethdiss.

It’s a cold shower of reality.

But it’s also one that disappears as Hujun gently pulls me to my feet and holds me against his firm chest without a word.

No blame. No shame. No guilt.

Just a thick, calloused hand petting through my curls and squeezing me close enough that my cheek scrapes against the scales on his chest.

Whether he Chooses me or not, doesn’t matter. He came for me. He cares for me. No matter his reasoning for watching after me, he must care about me a little bit. He wouldn’t challenge his own brother to protect a Human Whore.

  Protect. Hujun protected me.

I take in a deep, trembling breath, slowly curling into his frame.

Safe. With Hujun, I’ll always be safe.

  CHAPTER FOUR

  York

The supplies have been delivered, but there’s a weird feeling floating in the air when Hujun comes to Prince Korben’s room and drops the sack off in the doorway. I know Ellis is behind him somewhere; those two are always right beside each other, but the tiny woman doesn’t poke her curly head inside the opening to say hello. I guess she’s still acting all emo about not being able to have sex with Hujun and knowing how good the sex is with Azan I can’t say I blame her for being so cranky.

“Where is Prince Korben?” Hujun rumbles to Blythe.

“I don’t know. I sent him somewhere.” Blythe shrugs it off and takes a sip of her gessroot tea. I don’t know if she notices the same thing I do, but Hujun looks a little angry. Or a lot angry. Is he against the whole Christmas idea? Holidays don’t usually mean anything good for Sidyth women, so it makes sense he’s nervous about something. “Everything okay?”

He turns slightly to something beside him, which I’m assuming is Ellis, but I can’t catch the words before he turns back to Blythe and me.

  “It is nothing. Thank you.”

  And then he’s gone.

I turn my attention to the bag and then towards Blythe who remains on her bed, eying it with the same interest as me.

“Well, that was interesting,” Blythe says. “Hujun isn’t exactly the most conversational alien here, but that was a little odd, even for him.” She shakes her head, noticing my attention locked on the burlap looking sack. “Fuck me twice over, that even looks like a Santa bag.”

  “Right?”

“Will Korben get pissed if I look inside?”

I bite my lower lip. I can only imagine the goodies inside Korben and Azan have ordered. Were they able to find Christmas lights? Decorations? Gifts? Books? I swallow hard. I hate having something thrust right under my nose and there’s nothing I can do about it. Well, that’s not true. There is something I could do about it. I could strut right up to the bag, tug it open and check out the goods. Christmas was my idea, after all. I should make sure everything is helpful.

But I don’t move. I don’t feel right. I’m sure there are a couple of surprises for Blythe and me, and if I know what they are, my face won’t look nearly as happy when I open them up. And that’s not fair to Azan.

Even though I’m dying to read a book.

Huffily, I slump in Korben’s chair and cross my arms.

“I don’t think it’d be right to sneak a peek.”

Blythe pouts, but she obviously feels the same way I do. “Yeah, I don’t want to ruin my surprise either. Korben’s pretty proud about something. It better not be more gessroot tea, but I don’t think he understands the concept of a surprise.”

I laugh. I can relate. Still, my mind drifts. What possible wonders could be waiting across the room for Blythe and me? I told Azan plenty of information and I’m sure Blythe did too, but both of us have a fair idea of what’s available on the Black Market. Let’s face it. I’m not getting a copy of the latest smutty romance or political commentary. It’s excruciating to sit here looking at a sack of goodies and not able to check out what’s inside.

  Stupid conscience!

Luckily, the perfect distraction appears in the doorframe without a pat.

  “Layla, Celeste,” I say, gri
nning ear-to-ear when the redhead and stunning Indian girl join us in Korben’s lair. They’re both smiling too, especially when they notice the massive sack in the doorway. “Don’t touch that. Christmas stuff.”

Celeste narrows her eyes. “Did you look?”

“Nope,” I say, popping my ‘p’ at the end. “Though I’m dying to. Is it possible to be scared and excited about Christmas gifts from aliens?”

“At least you’re going to get a gift.” Celeste frowns, focusing her attention on Blythe and me. Or rather, our swelling stomachs. “You both look good.”

“Well pleasured,” Layla agrees, taking a seat at the end of the bed near Blythe’s feet.

“That’s not what I mean, idiot,” Celeste grumbles, sitting on the floor next to me. I’m assuming she still has a problem with Blythe but was too excited to get out of the Gathering Room without Glykoran to care where Layla was going to end up. Her eyes widen when she looks at me. “Damn, I didn’t notice it last time, but you’re really starting to show now, York.”

I flush. “Oh, uh. Yeah. I guess I am.” Absently, I rub my stomach, noticing Celeste is, in fact, correct. My stomach is swelling, finally catching up to my chest. “I’m doing a lot better than this one though.” I smile at Blythe.

“I don’t know why I can’t strut around like you while I’m in the second trimester. Doesn’t seem fair.”

  “I don’t strut,” I grumble.

  Celeste and Layla snicker.

  “What?” I snap.

“You’re a total stutter.” Layla laughs into her hands. “Oh my God! Alaska and Kansas are always making fun of you. Devyn and Rene too. Nothing mean, I swear. Just…”

“Pussy pillow talk,” I grumble. Like I care what those bitches think. But what-the-fuck-ever. “I’m happy. Sorry if they can’t handle it.”

Celeste hums but doesn’t say anything more, attention still drifting between my and Blythe’s stomach. Does she want something physical with Glykoran? They spend a lot of time together, but I can’t see anything happening. Glykoran is one of the only ones here I know of who left a wife and kid behind when he came to Hethdiss. I can’t imagine he’s looking for a mistress – Human Whore or not. There has to be someone who’s a better match for Celeste.
