“I’m not naked yet,” I murmured. “And neither are you.”
Cobalt fire flared in Tore’s eyes. Before I could register what happened, he had me on my back on the bed, with his long, tight body pressed hard against me.
“I’ll fix that,” he growled. He kissed me hard, before rolling to his side and making good on his promise. Then he carefully placed one forearm on either side of my head, and shifted so he hovered just above me. With nothing left to separate us, my chest rose and fell in breathless anticipation. I was so ready for this moment.
Tore’s breath hitched, and a vulnerability flickered in his gaze. I raised one eyebrow. Was he nervous? He didn’t need to be—I’d never wanted anything more than I wanted to share this experience with him, right here, right now.
I ran my hands over the bulges in his back, opening my heart center to share the depth of my feelings with Tore. And to my complete and total shock, he dropped his shield and revealed an energetic body teeming with devotion, and adoration, and love. So much love.
“Oh, Tore.” I exhaled. Once again, I was at a loss for words.
But Tore wasn’t. And when he began to speak, I absolutely melted at the way his centers lit up. So. Much. Love.
“I’m going to take care of you, Allie,” Tore swore. “Not just tonight, but forever. I’ll spend the rest of my existence doing everything in my power to keep you safe, and make you happy.”
Oh, my God. My heart swelled with love for the suddenly vulnerable god who’d once driven me mad with his overbearing need for control. Now, he was driving me mad for an entirely different reason. I loved him so much.
“I know things are changing for us,” Tore continued. “That things will be different when we get back to Asgard. But no matter what missions we’re assigned to, and no matter what titles we have, the only one that matters to me is being your husband. You’re everything to me, Allie. You pulled me out of the darkness, and believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. I don’t know what I did to deserve you, but I am so grateful I get to be with you.”
“Tore.” Tears pricked in my eyes. “I love you.”
“You’re my world, Pepper,” he said simply.
“And you’re mine, Protector,” I whispered back. And he was. I’d waited a seeming eternity to be with Tore, and to be here with him, in paradise . . . it was straight out of a dream.
“Good,” Tore said fiercely. Fire flared in his eyes again. Without another word, he closed what little distance was left between us, claiming me in a prolonged, endless moment of absolute perfection.
As the waves lapped outside our bungalow, and the moon rose over Bora Bora, Tore showed me over and over again exactly how much I meant to him. I thanked the gods for revenge and redemption . . . and for the little pink can of pepper spray that started it all.
