“Well, it sounds delish,” Jon says, holding out his cup.

London pours everyone a cup full of the drink and Midge gets the fire going behind us.

“All right, people. Bring your chairs around the fire,” Midge says. “We can tell ghost stories or something,” she finishes with a laugh.

“There’s no such thing as ghosts,” Daniel mutters.

  “Yes, there is!” Jon counters.

Daniel rolls his eyes like he’s had this argument before.

“Or maybe not ghost stories,” Midge says.

I settle into my chair, choosing to sit next to Midge this time. Jon and Daniel continue to debate about whether ghosts are real or not, and London sits sideways on Royce’s lap, talking quietly about something.

“Why don’t you tell me a little about this place,” I say. “Something about your mom’s experience. It’ll help with the painting process.”

She sits back in her chair and holds the cup on her knee. “Okay, well, when my mom was young, probably about seventeen, she came here with her parents for the summer. That wasn’t out of the ordinary, but that year, my dad was here,” she says with a smile. “He didn’t live close by. I think it was over eight hours away, but they had one month together that summer, and that’s how their story began.”

“You can’t end it there. What else happened?”

Midge shifts in her seat, sitting cross legged, and perks up excitedly as she tells the story. She’s so damn cute.

“Well, they wrote each other letters during the year. They still have some of them to this day, locked up in a little box. Anyway, they were pen pals. They updated each other on what was going on in school and whatnot. They made a few phone calls when they could. My dad’s parents were strict, and didn’t really allow him much freedom, so he did what he could.

“When the summer was approaching, Mom told Dad to convince his parents to come back here again. He made no promises, but said he’d do the best he could. When my mom came up here with my grandparents that summer, she waited to see my dad. She walked into town and hoped to come across him. She had sent him the address to this house with instructions to mail any letters during the summer here, so she’d get them. But no letters ever showed up. She tried calling his house, but nobody answered. It was like he had disappeared. She was devastated.”

I furrow my brow. “Doesn’t sound like the happiest love story.”

“What love story doesn’t have complications? There’s always an obstacle. Sometimes more than one, but it’s getting through them and over them that makes the story a love story. Plus, I’m here, so obviously it has a happy ending.”

  I smile. “You’re right. Continue.”

“So, Mom spent the summer moping around, broken-hearted. She didn’t think she’d ever see him again.”

  “But.”

She grins. “But, she did see him. It wasn’t until the following year though. She didn’t receive another letter from him. Her calls went unanswered. She had given up and actually started dating someone else. But when the summer came around, she was here.”

“Was your dad here?” I ask, completely sucked into the story.

“Shush. Just wait. So, Mom is out with a couple friends, doing who knows what, and when she gets back home, she checks the mail and finds a letter addressed to her. There’s no return address, no stamp, just her name. She opens it up and finds a letter from my dad. All it says is I’ve missed you. I’m sorry.”

  “That’s it?”

“That’s it,” she says with a smile. “But then, there’s a knock on the door, and it was my dad. Mom throws herself into his arms, crying. Dad explained that his parents got a divorce. It was messier than that. His dad was abusing his mom, and one night, his mom grabbed him and they fled. He hadn’t told my mom about his family problems, because he was embarrassed, but yeah, he and his mom left and moved even farther away. He didn’t have Mom’s number memorized, or her address, and the letters he was able to take with him, were just letters. No envelopes.”

  “Wow.”

She nods and takes a sip of her drink. “Yep, so they spent the whole summer together that year. My grandparents let him stay with them, in another room, of course. Because Dad didn’t come with his mom. He came alone.”

“Wait, so he came back here by himself, in the hopes of seeing your mom?” London asks.

Me and Midge both glance around and realize everybody’s listening to the story.

“Yep. His mom had to work and couldn’t afford to take a summer vacation. My dad was eighteen at that point, so he used the little money he had saved from his after-school job, drove this old, beat-up car to get here, and hoped for the best.”

“Aww, that is so romantic!” London says.

“He found the house, saw my mom leave, popped the letter in the mailbox and waited for her to get back.”

“But your grandparents let this stranger into their house for the whole summer?” Daniel questions.

Midge laughs. “They had met him the first summer they met. They were inseparable, so he was always here, and when they weren’t here, they were off somewhere together. Mom had cried to my gramma about Dad. She knew the story. So when he showed back up, and Mom was deliriously happy, they allowed him to stay. My grandparents have always been pretty lax on stuff. Plus, Mom was nineteen.”

“Wait, didn’t you say your mom had started dating someone else?” Royce asks.

“Yeah, she had. It was new, but the moment she saw my dad, that relationship ceased to exist. Dad was it.”

“Aww,” Jon and London sing together.

“And they’ve been together ever since. They spent the next two summers up here, and then they were focused on school and work and having me, so their time up here came sporadically. It’s been years since they’ve been now, but this place holds so many memories for them.”

  “That’s awesome,” I say.

  “Yeah, I love their story.”

“Maybe you’ll have your own story start here, too,” Jon tells her.

She rolls her eyes a little. “Probably not. All right, let’s drink.”

  18

  Midge

At midnight, I’m damn near drunk. The liquor has loosened my tongue and heightened my sex drive. If nobody finds out about me and Cill tonight, it’ll be because they’re also drunk and can’t see what’s right in front of them. However, Cill seems to be doing his best to maintain the ruse.

“Who else wants to take body shots off of Cillian’s abs?” I yell, raising my hand high in the air.

London giggles, also drunk. “What happened to no body shots tonight?”

“People can change their minds,” I say with a shrug.

Cill casually drapes his arm around my shoulders, just like he has in the past, just like any friend would do. There’s nothing romantic or sexual about it, yet my heart hammers against my ribcage at the contact.

“I don’t think Midge needs anymore shots,” he says with a laugh. “As much as I’d love to take my shirt off for everyone.”

Royce scoffs. “Keep it on. Please.”

“Hater. I told you I could give you a little artwork. It’ll make you more interesting to look at naked.”

Royce gives him a smug grin. “I don’t need ink to be more interesting to look at. Especially naked. Huh, babe?” His glassy eyes meet London’s.

“Can we stop talking about people being naked?” I whine.

“Why don’t you call that one guy?” London says. “The last one you went out with. Didn’t you say he was nice?”

Cillian drops his arm and moves to the kitchen. “I mean, I guess he was nice. But, I’m not really interested.”

“Whyyyy?” London asks. “You said he was good in bed.”

My eyes grow in size. “Shhh.”

London waves her hand through the air. “Royce already knows how we talk.”

“Yeah. Still not over the last conversation I overheard.”

  “And I’ve been
in on some of these conversations,” Jon adds from the couch in the living room.

I scoff and roll my eyes. Usually, I wouldn’t care about having this conversation in front of people. I don’t really give a shit if people know I’m dating or having sex with guys. It’s not abnormal for a single woman to do those things. But now Cillian’s here, and watching me from the kitchen. I definitely don’t want to talk about the last guy I slept with. But London keeps on going.

“So, call him. At least have a fuck buddy. You have needs too! Don’t become celibate and cranky. I’ll hire you an escort or something.”

“An escort? In Gaspar? Good luck,” I say with a laugh.

“Oh whatever. Why did you stop talking to him anyway? What was his name again?”

  I begrudgingly answer. “Jeff.”

“Yeah, Jeff. So what did he do?”

I shrug, glancing up at Cillian who’s leaning against the counter in the kitchen, watching me. “Just got boring, I guess.”

“Ah. Yeah, that sucks,” London murmurs.

“Good thing we don’t have that problem, huh?” Royce says, nuzzling into London’s neck, turning her into a giggling school girl. Damn drunk, horny people.

“We’re gonna turn in,” Daniel announces, getting up from the couch and pulling Jon up with him. “We gotta leave early in the morning tomorrow, because I have to be back in town before three.”

“Okay, well, good night. I’ll see you guys before you take off.”

London and Royce decide they can leave because Daniel and Jon did it first, so London spins around and gives me puppy eyes.

“Sorry to leave you so early in the night, but…” She leaves the word hanging in the air between us. She doesn’t even have to finish. I know. Because Royce can’t keep his hands off of her.

Royce angles his head and throws up two fingers to Cillian. “Night, bro. See ya later.”

Cill lifts his chin. “Yeah, see ya.”

When all four of them have disappeared upstairs behind their closed doors, me and Cill continue standing where we are, watching each other.

  “Come here,” he says.

I listen and walk into the kitchen, but I lean against the counter opposite him. “I’m here.”

“No, come here,” he says, emphasizing here as he points to the floor right in front of him.

I place my cup on the counter and take four steps to get to him. My brain feels a little foggy, thanks to the alcohol, my movements seem to be in slo-mo, but my thoughts are rapid fire.

Touch me, kiss me, fuck me.

  “Truth or dare?” he questions.

Knowing how this ended last time we played, I answer quickly. “Truth.”

“You’ve been thinking about my cock all night.”

I swipe my tongue across my bottom lip. “True.” His lips twitch, almost smiling. “Truth or dare?”

  “Truth.”

“You want to fuck me right now.”

“Oh, so very true.” He takes a sip of his drink and then places it on the counter behind him. “Truth or dare?”

  “Dare.”

“I dare you to undo my pants.”

“Right here?” I question, looking toward the stairs. If anybody decided to come down, they’d see us right away.

  “Right here,” he states.

While staring into his eyes, my hands fumble with his button, and then pull the zipper down. My knuckles brush over his growing erection.

  “Truth or dare?” I breathe.

  “Dare.”

“Without actually placing my hands on you, make me touch you.”

A cocky smile spreads across his face. He steps forward and nuzzles my neck with his beard before I feel his lips ghost across my skin. He kisses and licks my neck, all the way to my collarbone, and across my shoulder. I almost reach out and touch him, but I slide my hands into my back pockets, hoping I can have some self-control.

When that doesn’t work, Cillian takes a step back and then drops to his knees in front of me.

  “Oh, God.”

The words slip past my lips without even thinking. Cillian’s hands move under my shirt, softly grazing my hips as his lips form kisses around my belly button. His hands travel south with his fingers finding the button on my shorts and popping it open.

My hands fly out of my pockets like they have a mind of their own, but right before I touch him, I’m able to stop myself. I place them awkwardly at my side because I want more of what he’s doing. The thought of someone coming down doesn’t even flicker in my brain. All I want is his mouth on me.

Once he’s undone my shorts, he tugs them down just enough to do what he needs to do. He peppers my lower stomach in kisses, his tongue coming out briefly to tease me. Then he kisses me through the material of my bikini bottom, his lips perfectly aligned with my clit. The warmth of his tongue pressing against me rips a gasp from my throat as my hands fly to his shoulders.

He drops a little lower, and through the material, he prods against my entrance. Then, he slowly stands up, and pulls my shorts back up over my hips.

  “I win.”

I let out a shaky breath. “Not fair.” I take a deep breath and try to compose myself.

  He grins. “Truth or dare?”

  “Dare.”

“I dare you to do what you’ve been thinking about.” He reaches through the open zipper of his jeans and grabs his cock through his boxer briefs, bringing my attention to how hard it is.

“And what have I been thinking about?” I ask, even though I already know. I just didn’t know he knew. Have I been that obvious?

He cocks his head, his lips turning up on one side. “You tell me. Rather, show me.”

Cillian strokes himself slowly through the light gray material. God, I want nothing more than to get my hands and mouth on that substantial cock. Apparently he knows it too.

  Again, I ask, “Here?”

“Here. Wouldn’t want things to get boring, right?” He raises an eyebrow, challenging me.

My heart flutters and then I reach inside the opening of his underwear and finally wrap my fingers around his erection. It’s hot and hard in my hand as I give it a little stroke before releasing it from the confines of the material.

It bobs in front of me as I kneel down and run my fingertips over the veins. The silver, curved bar steals my attention. I grab ahold of his shaft, pulling it down just slightly so I can flick my tongue over the piercing.

I lick around the crown of his cock before opening my mouth wide and taking him inside. Using my hand, I stroke the length of him while tasting some of the arousal that has leaked onto my tongue. Cillian groans above me, and it spurs me on.

I quicken my hand, stroking him faster as I take him deeper into my mouth. The piercing grazes the roof of my mouth, nearly hitting the back of my throat as I try to take all of him.

Cillian grabs a fistful of my hair and starts moving his hips, fucking my mouth like it’s the best place his cock has ever been.

“Fuck,” he grunts, slowing down and trying to control himself. “Get up.”

I hurriedly stand up, ready to do whatever he wants. He reaches into his pocket for his wallet and grabs a condom. I push my shorts to the floor, stepping out of them and kicking them to the side.

Cillian doesn’t bother removing his clothes, he just covers his dick with the condom and then pulls me to the counter and bends me over it.

He tugs the teal-colored bottoms down to my thighs, slides his fingers into the wetness that’s already accumulated there, and then shoves his thick cock inside me.

“Oh, God!” The words come out louder than I meant them to.

“You’re gonna have to keep quiet, sweetheart,” Cill says quietly over my shoulder. “Someone may come down and see us.”

“Mm,” I moan, pushing back on his cock.

Cillian stands back up and grabs my hips and hammers into me. It’s hard, fast, and deep. So wonderfully deep.

I bite my lip in an attempt to keep quie
t, but I can’t. Cillian has to reach around and clasp his hand over my mouth while he pummels into me.

The punishing thrusts, and the fact that we’re out in the open, risking being seen, has my orgasm building quickly. Cillian removes his hand from my mouth and places it against my clit, rubbing circles over it while pushing in and out in long, forceful thrusts.

“Oh God, oh God, oh God,” I pant, trying to keep my voice low. “Yeah, just like that. Oh shit.”

The orgasm hits me like a freight train. I shatter into a million pieces as I ride the wave, my legs shaking beneath me. Cill goes back to covering my mouth as my noises get louder. I bite down into his palm, and then Cillian does his best to keep quiet as he climaxes. He releases a sexy, throaty growl, shuddering over me.

  “Holy shit.”

As he’s pulling out, a door creaks open upstairs. We separate quickly, and I pull up my bikini bottom and reach down for my shorts while Cillian tucks himself into his pants. We start running toward the living room when we hear another door shut.

“They just went to the bathroom,” I whisper.

And then we burst into a fit of laughter.

  Cillian

I wake up early today since everybody will be leaving. We say bye to Jon and Daniel first, but Royce and London stick around to have breakfast.

“Mm. This is so good,” London says around a mouthful of French toast that Midge made.

“Mmhmm,” Royce agrees, taking a bite of bacon.

I glance across the table at Midge and smile. “Thanks for breakfast.”

“You’re welcome,” she says with a shrug. “I was craving French toast, so really, it was a selfish decision.”

“Hey, what time did y’all go to sleep last night?” London asks.

My eyebrows shoot up as I look to Midge. “Uh, I’m not sure. Maybe an hour or so after you all went up.”

  “Something like that,” Midge says.

“Oh okay. I came down after a little while to get some water, and expected y’all to be up.”
