Pranked

“I could cook in this kitchen,” I said, sliding my hand lovingly over the glass cooktop and stainless steel appliances. The owner had clearly upgraded recently, the place really was immaculate.

“I could read in the sunroom,” Ezra added dreamily, his eyes far away as he imagined his perfect reading space. It was adorable.

“Okay, last part, let’s check out the back,” I said, leading him to the back door that led out to a large deck. Past that was a large stretch of beach and the waters of Echo Bay. I loved everything about it, it just needed one more thing.

Ezra let go, running down the steps and kicking off his shoes, stopping and wiggling his now bare feet in the sand. Nerves hit me as I took him in. I was terrified that he’d run again, but he’d more than proven he was all in this time. After a deep breath, I stopped right behind him, dropping to one knee and pulling out the ring box that was weighing down my pocket. I popped it open and waited for him to turn.

He turned slowly, looking around for a moment before he glanced down, a shocked gasp escaping as he took in the ring and me on one knee. The love and happiness in his eyes gave me the courage I needed.

“Ezra, I knew when I met you, that I had to have you. What I didn't expect was how hard and fast I would fall for you. I love your sweet and smart side, that vulnerability you share with only me. I love the playful side that wasn’t afraid to start a prank war and hasn’t let it go since. I love the fierce and loyal side, going out of your way to help anyone you can. The fire in your eyes, showing me that you aren’t afraid to fight for what you want and need. I love you more than I can put into words, but I do know I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Ezra Davis, will you marry me?”

“Yes!” he shouted, dropping to his knees and tackling me in a fierce kiss. “I love you so much, Jasper!”

“I love you too, Sweetheart,” I said, pulling away and taking his hand. I slid the platinum band onto his finger, loving how perfect it looked there.

“We have to take a picture and send it to the family group chat!” he gushed, pulling his phone out and smiling at the camera, his ring hand held just below his face to showcase the ring. I leaned in and kissed his cheek and waited for him to take the picture. He grinned as he showed me, the picture was just as adorable as he was. The moment he sent it, our phones blew up, all of our friends and family sending their excitement our way.

What more could I want out of life? I had my dream house, my dream job, and now my dream man. And before too long, I’d have my dream wedding.

Who would have known that one prank could lead to the rest of my life?
