by Ruby A. Smith

After an arduous and exhausting labor, Amber and Jesse were finally able to welcome their little baby girl into the world. She had blue eyes and sparse amounts of light copper-brown hair adorning her forehead. They both thought she was the most beautiful thing they’d ever seen, and as Amber cuddled her close to her chest, Jesse pressed a kiss to the tiny child’s forehead.

“She’s incredible,” he whispered as he continued to stroke Amber’s hair.

“She’s better than I could have ever dreamed,” Amber replied, her eyes welling with happy tears. “I can’t believe we made her!”

“We sure did,” Jesse said with a smile. “What should we call her?”

Amber thought for a long moment about it as she tried to pull the tiny bundle in her arms impossibly closer. “I really don’t know. I’m not sure there’s a name beautiful enough for her.”

“That’s okay, we’ve got plenty of time to think about it,” Jesse said and leaned down to kiss his tiny daughter once more.

“Knock, knock!” a voice called from outside their door before poking their head in.

  “Carol Ann!” Amber exclaimed.

“You didn’t have to come by, sis,” Jesse said as he walked up to her and hugged her tight. “It’s so early in the morning. We could have brought the little one to you another day.”

The blonde rolled her eyes and handed him the balloons and flowers she was carrying. “As if I’d miss this! The very first day on Earth for my very first niece!” she cried in excitement before approaching Amber with a smile. “How are you, dear?”

“Tired,” Amber replied with a huff. “I need a nap.”

“Of course, you must be exhausted, you poor thing,” Carol Ann sympathized. “May I?” She held her hands out to the sleeping baby held in Amber’s arms.

The exhausted new mom nodded and handed her child over to Carol Ann before relaxing back into the pillows.

“We’ll give you some time to sleep, darlin’,” Jesse stated, and kissed his wife on the forehead before leaving the room with his sister and new daughter.

A few months passed filled with sleepless nights and the joy of new life, but it came time for Amber to get back to work. Ever since she had officially moved to Valley Springs, she had felt a little out of place. In spite of her love for Jesse, she still wanted to make her mark on the world, but she hadn’t found anything that stuck out for her… Until Carol Ann had made an offhand comment about Amber being talented enough to design and make her own clothes.

Now, Amber’s Fashion and Beauty was a huge success. Amber had employed a few people to help her with the logistics, including setting up and maintaining a website, as well as arranging the delivery and shipping of goods.

But when Amber had given birth to her new daughter, Eve, everything had to go on hold for a little while. Apparently, that didn’t do anything to quell her avid fans’ desires to get an Amber Wyatt original in their closets. If anything, it had made it worse. People had worried that Amber might give up her business and become a full-time mom. They thought they might not get the chance to get a unique piece of clothing from her, but there was nothing to fear.

When Eve was three months old, Amber began designing again. It was like an itch she could never quite scratch while she’d been away, and when she began sketching in her design book once more, Amber had never felt more at home.

It was a whole new life for Amber now. She’d worried before about trying to manage the two worlds that she so desired to be a part of — fashion and farming — but now, she’d thrown a whole new area into the mix: Motherhood. Never before had Amber felt so exhausted, but as she watched her husband and daughter snoozing together on the couch, she realized that she had never been so happy either.
