Angel’s Fury

  He smiled and nodded.

Marcus sat down heavily in his chair. An angel? They have been so silent all of these years. He’s always wanted to be a guardian. Warlocks usually worked alone, and he envied the guardian witches for what they could do. He smiled and took his phone from his pocket and called his son.

“Logan, I need you and your brother here now.”

He knew that his sons wouldn’t delay. They have to secure this child. She is too precious to let go.

  7

Mary and Rebecca felt good after leaving Marcus’ home. They had at least one more person that could help Denise. When they got back home, Denise was asleep in Mary’s bed. She must’ve heard their footsteps because she blinked her eyes open.

  “Hey. Where have you been?”

Mary smiled and walked over and sat on the bed next to her.

“We just went to visit an old friend. He’s going to help us find out what’s going on.”

Denise sat up and tucked her feet up under her.

“So, we still don’t know why they want me?”

Mary looked down at the floor.

“We have a feeling, but you have to trust me that I’m working on it.”

Denise lay her head on Mary’s shoulder and let out a breath.

“You know that I trust you with my life. I’m just scared. I need to go and check on my mom.”

“I know that you’re scared, and I will protect you. I promise. Your mom is fine. My mom invited her over so she should be here shortly.”

“Good. I just don’t want anything happening to her.”

“It won’t.” Mary bumped her shoulder against Denise’s and smiled down at her. “Your birthday is in two days! The big twenty-one. You ready?”

Denise smiled sadly. “I think so, but I’m not sure I want to go out. The last time, I ended up in a pool of blood.” She looked at Mary hopefully. “Can we please keep that between us? Mom would never be able to handle that.”

Mary chuckled. “My lips are sealed. By the way, she probably wouldn’t believe it anyway. Remember when Mom tried to tell her that she was a witch and Lenora just laughed it off. She really thought that Mom had drank too much wine.”

Denise laughed and shook her head. “Just wait until she finds out about this.”

Mary patted Denise’s leg and hopped up.

“Come on. Grandmother cooked her famous chili.”

Denise smiled and threw the covers from her legs and followed her downstairs. When they got to the kitchen, Lenora was coming through the door. Denise ran and hugged her.

  “Are you okay, Dee?”

“Yes Mom. I just missed you.”

“Aw baby. I missed you too.” She tilted her head up and sniffed. “Is that the famous chili?”

Everyone laughed and grandmother hugged Lenora and waved her to a seat. Mary looked around the room and smiled. Whatever comes, we have got to be ready.

  8

Dinner was done and they were all in the living room. Rebecca had talked Lenora into staying the night and Denise was grateful. The house would usually be full with the other witches that were in their coven, but since Analise and Z had tainted the hall with dark magic, it was best to keep everyone away. The house still had yet to be cleansed so there were plenty of rooms empty. They showed her to a spare room and Rebecca made sure to put a couple of herbs in her tea to help her to sleep. After they got her settled, they went back to the living room and sat down. Rebecca stood in front of Denise and smiled.

“Dee? I have some friends that are coming over here shortly. They are like us but more powerful. There isn’t a lot that we can tell you right now, but I swear that we are here for you.”

“Like I told Mary, I trust you. I just wish that I knew who was doing this.”

Mary and Rebecca shared a look and Denise knew that they weren’t telling her everything. She was about to say something, but the doorbell rang. Grandmother, who was already up, went to answer the door. Denise’s eyes widened at the sight that came through the door. The man was tall and slender. He had white hair that fell down his back and his eyes looked clear. His skin was so white that it looked as if he had powder on. His eyes locked on hers and he smiled. That smile could make a woman faint. He walked closer and put his hand out for Denise to shake. She nervously placed her hand in his and his eyes closed as their hands touched. She felt as if he knew everything about her. His touch felt familiar, and she had never met him before in her life.

  “She is special.”

Denise snatched her hand back and looked over at Mary for help.

“I’m sorry. My name is Marcus and I am a… friend.”

“Hello Marcus. That was kind of weird.”

“I’m sorry. I can feel your emotions and get a feel of your aura through touch. I guess that I should have told you that.”

“Yeah, that would have been nice to know.”

He barked a laugh and put his hands up in surrender.

“Becca, you remember my boys, Logan and Sabastian?”

Rebecca walked around Marcus and hugged them both. Marcus was still standing in front of Denise, so she didn’t even know that there was anyone else there. She peeked around his body and gasped. The first one, Logan, looked just like his father. His hair was white, but his eyes were purple. The other son, Sabastian, looked out of place. He had dark brown hair and hazel eyes. His freckles were splashed across his cheeks. The weird thing was that he looked just like them, only with color. Denise’s focus went back to Logan, and she was stuck. Her body came to life, and she could feel her heart beating out of her chest. His piercing eyes looked at her as if he was trying to figure something out and he looked at his father for help. As if she was being pulled by an invisible thread, Denise stood up and walked to Logan. He looked at her quizzically as she approached. Her hand reached out, and he took her outstretched hand. Both of their eyes closed, and Denise had to grip hold of his shirt to stay upright.

Logan touched her hand, and he saw bright lights and then nothing. His eyes blinked open, and he saw a blonde-haired woman with a knife above her head. The knife came down repeatedly into the chest of a young girl. The woman looked at Denise and told her to fix the stabbed girl. Denise’s eyes were wide with fright as she watched this scene unfold. After the third girl was brutally stabbed, a man hit Denise in the back of her head, and she was passed out. He had never had a vision so clear in his entire life, and he was over ninety years old. When his eyes opened, he was holding Denise against his chest and she was out cold. The pain of that memory must have been too much for her. He didn’t know why, but he didn’t want to let her go.

  9

Denise was tired of passing out. When she awoke this time, she was surrounded by faces. Mary, Rebecca, Marcus, Grandmother, Sabastian and the face that she focused on, Logan. His concerned look caused her to sit up.

  “Easy, easy!” Logan told her.

She looked around at the faces and then down at herself. She had expected to find blood all over her again and was relieved when there was none.

  “What happened?”

Logan knelt down beside her and took her hand. She jerked her hand back and shook her head rapidly.

“Nope. Don’t touch me. Everyone that has touched me has made me feel something that freaked me out!”

He smirked and took his hand back.

“I have the ability to see someone’s past, although this is the first that it has affected me like this.”

“So, you saw what happened to me?”

He looked up at his father and then back down to her.

“Yes, I saw some. Do you remember anything?”

“No. Just waking up with a lot of blood all over me.”

“It looks like it was a former witch from this coven.” He looked at Mary and Rebecca and smirked. “And telling by your faces, I’m guessing that you know this.”

Mary sighed. “Yes. We saw her when we were helping Denise out of that house.”

  Denise s
at up completely and looked at her friend.

“You know this person? What does she want from me?”

Rebecca stepped forward and placed a hand on Mary’s shoulder.

“That is a little hard to answer right now. I can tell you about her, but the reason is a little trickier.”

  “Trickier? This is my life!”

Logan sat down next to her and took her hand. This time she didn’t pull away.

“We all have rules that we cannot break. This world of magic can be a blessing and a curse. I don’t know the reason that we are here, but I do know that I must stay. This is the same with you. You know you’re in danger, but we cannot tell you why.”

Denise looked at him and then closed her eyes.

“I hate this not knowing. Can you at least tell me about her? How do you know her?”

They looked at Grandmother as she walked forward.

“Mary, get her some water and then I shall tell the story.”

Mary hurried out of the room and came back with a glass of ice water. Marcus grabbed a chair from the corner and placed it in the middle of the group for Grandmother to sit. She slowly sank down into the seat and smiled at Denise.

“This coven has existed for thousands of years. We have had witches come and go but never had any that we had to force out. Analise was the first. Her mother was one of our leaders and she loved this coven with her life. When she had a daughter after having two sons, she was over the moon. She gave that girl the world, but the child was spoiled. For this next part, I shall show you her life.” Grandmother made some gestures with her hands, and Marcus came over to assist. Together, a picture started to form, and it turned into a sort of movie in front of their eyes.

Analise had always had the drive to want to learn. She was one of the best students in school, but her problem was that she wanted the world without working for it. She would throw tantrums if she didn’t get her way and her Mom coddled her. She surrounded herself with friends that let her get away with just about anything. They never corrected her. When she was in high school, she met this guy that they called Z and fell instantly in love. He was funny and witty and always defended her against the other catty girls at the school. She and Mary went to the same high school and had many classes together. They used to get along, but Mary told her that she didn’t trust Z so Analise stopped hanging around her. When they graduated, they were offered a position in their parents’ coven and were excited for the chance to learn more. Analise always envied Mary because she received a soul at such a young age, but she had never had one. Mary’s mom told her that sometimes they come late in life, but she was still upset. She didn’t want to be around them anymore because every single person in the coven had a soul except for her, so she spent most of her time with Z. He stayed by himself in a rundown apartment on the other side of town. He would show her how to conjure dark magic in his apartment and she was taking it all in. She loved him because he showed her magic that they never taught at the coven and she was in awe. One day, she invited Z over to visit. He wasn’t allowed in the coven because of his use of dark magic, but no one was there so Analise didn’t see a problem with it. She took him to the hall of magic, and he sneered at the beautiful peaceful room. He wanted to show her a spell that he had just learned but she was apprehensive. As he kept asking her, she finally gave in. She watched as he pulled herbs from his pocket and lit candles around the pentagram on the floor. His eyes closed as he splayed his hands and started to speak. Analise saw the room grow dark and she backed up. Her eyes widened as she told him to stop, but he didn’t. She heard voices down the hall and tried to get Z to leave. Rebecca, Mary’s Mom, came in and saw the plume of black smoke. Z was muttering words that Analise didn’t know and before she knew it, she and Z were both thrown backwards to the floor as the smoke turned into a demon. It’s sharp jagged teeth dripped with venom and it bared its teeth to them. Rebecca sprung into action and conjured up a spell to contain it. Whatever she did caused others from the coven to run into the room and help her. They contained the demon and sent it back to hell. They all looked at her and Z on the floor. Analise tried to explain that Z was only showing her new spells and that the demon was supposed to be a joke. Mary’s grandmother walked into the room and gasped. She walked up to Analise and sniffed.

“Look at her aura,” Grandmother said to the coven.

They all looked up and then at her face. Even her mom was shocked and disgusted.

“She has been corrupted. She must be cleansed,” Grandmother stated.

  Analise stood there in shock.

“Mom? I’m not going through that ritual. The last person that went through that almost died!”

Her mom looked sad. “Then there is no choice but for you to leave the coven. We cannot have you tainted here.”

“But Mom! I haven’t even gotten a soul yet! I have nowhere to go. You can’t just put me out.”

“I’m sorry. This isn’t just about me. We have souls to protect, and you must do what we offer in order to stay.”

The coven was contaminated and could not be used until it was properly cleansed. Their place of practice was now shut off from the other witches. They could only watch as Z walked forward and took her hand.

“You don’t need these people. You have me and I will teach you everything that you need to know.”

“I just can’t leave my Mom.”

“Yes, you can. They obviously don’t want you here. You’re not tainted, they just don’t want you.”

  “Mom? Please?” she pleaded.

Her mom shook her head sadly. “Either go through the cleansing or you’re out.”

  Analise never looked back.

Little did the group know that Analise had overheard them talking about Denise being an Angel. She was determinded now, more than ever to make them pay.

  10

Denise couldn’t believe what she was hearing. This girl brought her own demise on herself. What would she want with me? And Mary’s soul being angelic? She just couldn’t figure out why she was so special that someone would want to take her. Someone had to tell her something and soon because she was losing it.

“So, what can we do? How do I protect myself from her?”

Mary smiled at her. “That’s what we are here for. We are not going to let anything happen to you.”

Marcus stood tall and peered down at Denise.

“You have my word. I shall make sure that you are properly taken care of.” He looked over at Rebecca. “Becca, I’m going to go and place some stronger wards up around your place. Make sure to keep her near, and we will be back tomorrow.”

“Thank you, Marcus. I really appreciate this.” Rebecca smiled.

  “Of course. It’s my honor.”

Denise was just about tired of the riddles, so she stood up and addressed the room.

“I’m going to lay down. This night is…” She threw her hands up and stormed out of the room. They all watched her leave and Marcus bid a final farewell before leaving with his sons.

“You think we can do this?” Mary asked her mom.

“We have no choice.” Rebecca hugged Mary tight. “She will be okay.”

“I hope so, mom. I hope so.”

  Logan

When Logan looked into Denise’s mind, he felt her terror. He didn’t know her, but he felt like he needed to protect her. When she passed out, he cradled her in his arms and didn’t want to let her go. Her head rested on his chest and she felt right in his arms. He could see himself holding her as they watched television or just talking. He wanted to keep her. He had never felt this way about a female before. He had been on this earth for over ninety years and had never wanted to pleasure and please a woman so badly. Her smell was intoxicating, and he wanted to bury himself deep inside her.

He jumped as a blow hit his arm.

“Ow! What was that for?” he asked his father.

“You were deep in thought and I was talking to you.”

  “Oh? What did you say?”

“I asked if you had any suggestions on how we should proceed.”

  “With what?”

“The girl! What is wrong with you?”

He let out a breath and looked over at Marcus.

“Father? I felt something when I went to her thoughts.”

  “Like what?”

“I’m not sure but I think I may be smitten.” He smirked. “What is the deal with her anyway? Why is she so special?”

“I cannot tell you at the present. Just know that she is… Divine.”

He barked a laugh. “You’d think that she was an angel or something.”

Sabastian chose that moment to chuckle in the backseat.

“Yeah, every angel that I’ve met was an asshole.”

Marcus chuckled with them but knew that they were way too close.

“What did you think about her Bass?” Marcus asked.

“I think that she is a scared girl who needs a drink or two. She is wound up tight!”

“You would be too if someone was trying to kill you!” Logan said defensively.

  “Geeze! Easy big brother.”

He had to calm himself down. She was affecting him, and she was nowhere around. He decided to change the subject.

“Did you see the way that she looked at both of us? You could practically hear the gears working trying to figure out if we were indeed related.”

“I’m used to it by now. You guys have that white hair and I look…normal.”

Marcus barked a laugh. “That’s what happens when your mother is a shifter. You get that from her.”

Sabastian smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

“Speaking of mom, have you talked to her?”

“No. She is still not taking my calls.”

Sabastian sat back in the seat and the ride was quiet. He still couldn’t believe that his mom abandoned him. Just because he couldn’t shift, she left him on his father’s porch at five years old. Her reasoning was that he would not be safe in a pack of wolves as a human. She could have protected him if she wanted. He could still hear as a wolf and could run faster that any human. At least he has his father’s magic. He looked at his father as he was driving and smiled. He never felt like a burden or unwanted with his father. Since he was dropped off, he has had nothing but love from his brother and his father.
