“I know Sienna. Why am I telling you all of this, right?”

  I nod.

  “But I need to explain.”

“Not to me dad. It is none of my business.”

“You hate me and I want to try and at least establish a line of communication between us.”

I stand and walk over to my bed. I yank the covers back, hop in, and bury myself beneath the heap of fluffy bedding.

“Well Sienna, I just wanted you to know your mom is resending the punishment. All you have to do is show us some respect from now on. And call if you were going to be late. Do you understand?” he asks as he stands to leave.

“Got it.” I answer with not much excitement.

I hear my door opening and I uncover my face. “Thanks dad. I promise I will do better, okay?”

He smiles and sigh in relief. “Good we would really appreciate that. I will be here for you from now on I promise.” He shuts my door and I am left alone with my thoughts.

I run over and grab my cell phone from my jacket pocket. I dial Scott and he answers immediately.

  “What’s up babe?”

I smile. The sound of his voice is all I long to hear. The smooth and calm tone relaxes me. I lie back down and nestle underneath the covers once more.

“I got in some major trouble Scotty. I guess mom is feeling her parental juice returning. She grounded me.”

“Really? I’m so sorry Sienna I didn’t want to get you in any trouble.” He says sympathetic.

“Oh no, it wasn’t your fault. I fell asleep. And it was my idea to ambush you.”

He chuckles. “I’m not going to lie. I am so glad you did.”

“I am too. I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.” I smile.

“So now that you’re grounded, will I have to spend my birthday alone?”

“No. Dad came in my room later and suspended my sentenced. As long as I show respect for the law, I can come and go as I please.”

“Oh that’s great. Get some sleep. I want to see you bright and early.”

  “I can’t wait. Goodnight.”

“Night.” He hangs up and I lay there hugging the phone close to my heart.

I tightly shut my eyes and concentrate on us. Suddenly I am dreaming of different things that is to come.

  CHAPTER 12

Early Sunday morning, I open my eyes and rub them. I stretch and toss the covers off of me. I walk over to my window and slide the curtains back. The sun is shining brightly and I revel in the beautiful March morning. Once again, evidence that my mom has returned to the pre-divorced Jacqueline attacks my nostrils. I brush my teeth and wash my face before barreling down to join the happy triplets and make it a quartet. When I reach the kitchen mom is tight lipped. I assume that she is still very upset with me.

“Mom… I am so sorry for disrespecting you and staying out late. I promise I will call you if I can’t get back at a decent time. But for the most part, I will come back at a decent time alright?” I extend the best apology I can. I wait for her response. She flips the omelet and pats it. I patiently stand there hoping she responds.

“Sienna that is all I want.” She motions over and grabs me into a suffocating bear hug. I sit at the table and pull a plate in front of me. Dad smiles at me and continues to devour his meal. She slides the tasty looking egg and meat concoction onto my plate and I dig in. I periodically glance at Jarvis who has the meal of a king on his plate. He hasn’t been a pain in my neck since dad’s return. I am sort of happy for him. Besides mom, he really missed dad the most.

I finish my meal and place my plate and glass into the dishwasher. Every morsel was satisfying to my empty stomach. “Bravo mom. Chef Jacquie is back with a vengeance.” She smiles and shuffles my already frightening hair. I use to put it in a scrunchie but since Scott is taken with my rusty, highlighted, locks I let it flow.

“Mom, Eva says she wants to come by today is that alright with you?” I ask

She slams her fork down and looks at me. “Sienna please don’t tell me that you are back hanging out with the girl that caused your injury.

“Mom I forgave her. That is what good human beings do right?”

Her tone eases. “I guess. But I am not as good as you are baby.” She starts to eat again.

I run and dress so that I can start my day. I decide to wear a pretty dress that Trixie gave to me. It is purple and blue. It gathers at the waist and is strapless. It has a sort of paisley design that swirls throughout the dress. It flairs mid-thigh. I slide into a pair of turquoise heeled boots and matching satchel that she lent to me. I look myself over and I like what I see. I flatiron my hair and the phone chimes. I snatch it from my nightstand and answer.

“So what’s up for the day bestie?”

“Hello Eva. I was wondering if you were still coming.”

“What is Scott doing for his birthday? I know he has some major plans. We always do something.”

“Oh, so you want to hang out with us?”

“Of course silly, we are the three musketeers.”

“Oh okay? I haven’t spoken with him yet but I am swinging by there in a few.”

“I will tag along then. Stop and pick me up. My car is in the shop. I am hitching rides these days.” She chuckles.

I think for a few seconds. I guess if she wants to hang she must be fine with all of this.

“I am dressed now, so I can be there in twenty.”

  “I will be waiting.”

I walk down the stairs and dad is washing the dishes that are in the sink.

“Wow you look gorgeous honey.” He smiles.

“Thanks dad. I will be home early so tell mom not to worry.”

I wave and hurry to my neglected thunderbird. Since I have been dating Scott I haven’t really been driving. I hop in and start the engine. I make a stop at the local mall to grab him another gift. Though I fear topping the one I gave him last night is nearly impossible. I dash through the various stores. I finally find a nice watch I can afford. It has a black leather band and a silver face. The clerk wraps it and I hurry back to my car. I drive toward Eva’s condo and honk my horn. Eva comes prancing out like a pageant winner. She is flawless from head to toe. Eva’s neat mane blows in the wind. The black cropped leather jacket she is wearing hides her blouse. But her black skinny jeans hugs her like they were made only for her body. The very expensive charcoal boots she is wearing is stunning. She pulls her designer purse onto her shoulder and skips over to my car. She hops in and hugs me. I slide the gear into drive and make my way to Scott’s. I get there and his parents’ Mercedes truck is at the edge of the driveway. I am confused because I thought they were away. I turn the engine off and we approach the front door. I knock and his mom answers.

“Hello Sienna my dear how are you today?”

“I’m great Mrs. Headly. How are you?”

“Good. Come on in honey. We are preparing for Scotty’s birthday dinner.”

“Oh… I didn’t know you were planning something.”

“It looks like you are dressed for the occasion. You look stunning darling.”

  “Thanks.” I blush.

We enter in through the living area. When we get to the kitchen, she is preparing a feast. We sit down at the table and wait for Scott to come down.

“I bought such a beautiful cake for him yesterday. I wanted to surprise him but he saw it. I was sure he was going to spend the night at one of his friend’s house, after that amazing championship win. But when we got here this morning he was sleeping like the adorable boy he is.” She smiles as she moves about the kitchen. “We have family coming over shortly. So you guys get comfortable.”

Eva takes off her jacket and she has on a very sexy sheer burgundy blouse. She is wearing a very salacious bra beneath. Eva has never been shy about wearing those type of things. That is why all of the boys thinks she is a sure thing. His mom eyeballs her and shakes her head. She stops cooking and go to the hall to call for Scott. When she returns she waves
for us to go on up. We stand and slowly pass her. We walk up the stairs and I constantly turn to see Eva’s chest bouncing around. I am suddenly regretting bringing her along. We get to his bedroom door and I nudge it open. He is buttoning his birthday shirt. He looks gorgeous as usual. All black is his favorite. But no converse today he is wearing a pair of designer shoes, black of course.

“Hey there.” He walks over and hugs me. We hold each other forgetting Eva is in the room.

“You look nice Snickers, I’m a very lucky birthday boy.”

I blush. Every wonderful word surges through me. I react to his every gesture. I dig into my satchel and pull out the nicely wrapped box. He grabs it and kisses me on the forehead.

“You didn’t have to get me anything else.”

I shyly turn to Eva and blush again.

“I wanted to get you something you could physically have for a long time.”

“I will have what you gave me last night for a long time. You don’t plan on that being the only time do you?” He leans in and whispers in my ear.

“No. I don’t want to give that to anyone else.” I whisper back.

“You better not.” He grabs a hand full of my dress at the waist.

Eva sighs. I’m sure she is tired of our mushy exchanges. I break away and walk over to his bed.

“I have something for you too Scotty.” She says as she steps toward him. His eyes nearly pop out of his head when he spots he burgundy bra peeking at him through the matching sheer blouse.

“Oh really?” he scratches his neatly styled head.

“Yes.” She breathes stepping so close I am uncomfortable. She hands him an unwrapped gold watch with diamonds cluttered on the face of it. I gasp. Her watch is a heck of a lot better than the cheap one I purchased earlier. I see the tag hanging and he lifts it to see the price.

“Eva you did not have to spend this much money on me.” He shoves it back into her hand.

“No Scotty. This is an official apology gift. My dad gave me his platinum card to show how sorry I really am. I value your friendship.”

“I know you do.” He hugs her tenderly. Her eyes roll as she sniffs his freshly washed skin. He smells heavenly and I know it. I was just sniffing him myself. I try to ignore the exchange. She catches herself and steps away.

“So what are we going to do until your birthday dinner starts?” I ask.

“I don’t know. I was ready to hang out with my wonderful girlfriend when my mom informed me that she planned something. My sister is here and my brother. So I am super excited.” He sarcastically responds.

We hang out in Scott’s room while the time passes. Scott and I are sprawled across the bed as we catch up on Eva and Devin’s breakup. Eva paces as she speaks. The way she sashays around is making me sick. I have always noticed it but for some reason I am boiling over with anger. Scott notices and shoves me. I rock and lay back on the bed to look up at him.

“What’s the problem Sienna? You look irritated.”

  “I’m just thinking.”

  “Thinking about…”

“I’m talking you guys! How rude are you two?”

“You have to excuse me. I’m checking on my girlfriend.” He playfully says. I see a flicker of jealousy cross her face. She plops down in his recliner across the room.

Scott stands and walks around the bed. He grabs both my hands and yanks me up. I fumble behind him as he leads me into the bathroom. Eva rolls her eyes and grabs the remote. He closes the door and turns to me.

“Are you okay Sienna? You look a little angry.”

“I am just hating what Eva wore today. Was it too soon to trust her around you Scott?”

“No. You know better than anyone that Eva loves attention. I am not looking at her. I’m watching you.”

I smile. The beam he is sending me creates a bubbling bundle of feelings deep inside. I step up to receive what I know he is thinking of giving. We start knowing it is wrong to leave her in the room wondering what could be happening behind this door. I fall against the wall hoping I can stop this from going further than a passionate kiss. He lifts my dress and breathes against my skin. “Come on Sienna let’s just do it one quick time. Please? I dreamed of us last night after we spoke. I need you, now.”

I want to protest, but I believe I want it as bad as he does if not more. I see why people always refer to teenage hormones as raging. There just is no end to our craving.

“We can’t.” I breathe. “She will hear us.”

“I don’t care.” He caresses my thigh and I am defenseless to him. I grip his neck and pull him deeper into our kiss. I want to stop but my desire won’t allow me. I look up at the ceiling as he feasts on my neck like he is eating something delicious. The feeling is unearthly. Suddenly the knob starts to rattle.

“What are you guys talking about?” Eva screams through the door.

“Umm… here we come!” I yell back shoving him away. He grips the wall adjacent to me. His hair is now in disarray. I cover my mouth and laugh as he fixes it. I place my finger to my lips.

  “Shhh. Don’t say anything Scott.”

“Your mother says your guest are arriving Scotty. So you guys need to hurry up!” she says backing away. I swing the door open after I fix my dress. I run over to my bag and pull out a brush and fix my hair as well.

“Come on snickers, I want us to go down together.” He reaches out for my hand and Eva slaps it away.

“No way Scott you go down. Sienna and I need to talk.” She snaps.

“Go ahead. I will be right behind you.” I wave. He pulls at his shirt and exits out of the room. I turn to get my lip gloss and Eva taps her foot. I turn back to her and she is staring at me with her long eyelashes fluttering. She crosses her arms.

“Oh you are going to spill it right now Sienna.”

“Spill what Eva?” I play nonchalant.

“Oh, don’t get cute with me girly. What were you and Scott doing in there? This relationship is PG-13 right?” Her eyebrow hitches and I know she is not letting me leave without answers.

“We were kissing.” I say slowly.

“Kissing that long? Wow if I hadn’t broke the two of you up? You would have given him the whole shebang.” She laughs and walks to grab her purse. When I don’t say anything more she turns to eye me again. “You haven’t gone all the way have you Sienna?” her voice crescendos and she put emphasis on my name. I bite my lip. I am afraid to tell her but I don’t want to lie. She is my best friend.

  “Umm.”

“Oh god! You slept with Scott!” She gasps and covers her mouth.

“Yes.” I finally say. “Lower your voice.” I demand.

  “I can’t believe…”

I see hurt in her eyes. I feel for her but I don’t regret my wonderful night with Scott. I will not apologize.

“I’m sorry Eva.” I can’t help it she is my only friend.

“No. You don’t owe me any apologies. You are the one he wanted. I respect that.” She looks to the floor. I turn my attention to the door. I just want to go to the dinner and celebrate with Scott.

“I want to know every detail.” She blurts. My eyes bulge again. I don’t want to share. Last night was ours and ours alone.

“I…I kind of don’t want to talk about it.” I stutter.

“Come on Sienna. When did it happen?” She is relentless. “At least tell me how it felt.” She pleads.

“Well…” I think for a moment. “Last night and it felt very nice… after a while.”

“Oh my goodness. So it does hurt.”

I blush. Eva is going in. she wants the goods. “Yes at first. But it is spellbinding once you get past that. He was very gentle. Okay? That is all I am giving.”

She clutches her chest and close her eyes. “I have wondered for so long what it would have been like to be with Scott, Sienna. I knew he was a popular person. Payton bragged about him. But I just blocked it out when she spoke. But to see the emotion between you two makes my heart flutter. They w
ere just one time bang buddies. He made love to you. I hate you right now.” She turns to leave the room. I follow trying to pretend we are alright.

I slowly step down behind Eva. My foot lightly grazes each stair. I wish I was invisible right now. I have really hurt her by falling in love. Scott is my life right now and I can’t let him go. But I want Eva to be my best friend again. She hasn’t turned to look at me again since we left Scott’s room. I want to reach out and hug her but I am afraid of what she may do. When we reach the bottom, the living room and dining area are packed with Scott’s family. My eyes search the room for him. Eva struts over to the table and sits. I stare at her for a moment and she presses her lips together. Suddenly I feel the warm tingle of Scott’s hand on my skin. I smile and turn to greet him.

“Hi. I am glad you came to get me. I was starting to panic.”

“Why? I just left you in my room.”

“Eva kind of put two and two together.” I whisper to him.

  “What did she…”

“Hey little brother. So this is your girlfriend now? Cute.” Doug says as he approaches.

“Don’t start. I want to enjoy this so called party.”

“I just want to meet your girl Scott.” He laughs.

“You have met Sienna several times. So cut the crap.”

“Whatever, I’m going to eat.” He throws his hand up and walks away.

The rest of the night we mingle and eat. His mom prepared a meal fit for a king. I am really enjoying myself. His family is very welcoming. Eva doesn’t appear to be having fun at all. I try and talk to her but I know it is time for her to go. I walk over to her and grab her hand. She blankly stares at me for a moment. I want this to pass so we can start having fun together.

“Come on Eva. I know you are enjoying all of the scorching hot college guys. They are falling over you like hungry wolves.”

“I know. How could any guy resist this?” she laughs. “Are you ready to go Sienna?”
