“Now, I tried to warn you about this. I didn’t want to have to do this, but I couldn’t exactly let you hurt any of these people. And stealing is bad.” Sirens sounded outside and I gave him a sad look. “Sorry, but it looks like you’re going to jail. I tried to warn you.”

The cops rushed through the front door and Sean, a friend of Sebastian’s, was leading the pack. He pulled the guy from my grip and handed off the gun to a fellow officer.

“You know, just a little excitement in my day is all I’m asking for,” Sean said with a shake of his head. “You just couldn’t leave it to us.”

“Well, I was trying to impress a girl.” I waved over to Reese who was crawling out from under the table and staring at me in shock. “Come on, would you have hidden under the table if you were trying to impress a woman?”

“I see your point. I’m just pissed that I didn’t get in on the action.”

“You know that Cap would take you in an instant.”

Sean snorted. “Not at my age. And I’m not sure I could keep up with the rest of you either. Besides, I don’t have a death wish.”

  “I don’t have a death wish,” I said indignantly.

“Right, you work with Knight. Anyone that works with him has a death wish.”

“I’ll tell him you said that,” I smirked. He shot me the finger and read the guy his rights before hauling him out the door.

I walked over to Reese and held out my hands in an oops gesture. “Well, I didn’t throat punch anyone.”

  “You shot a man.”

“Yeah, but only in the shoulder so he couldn’t fire his weapon. He’ll be fine with some rehab.”

  “You’re insane.”

  “No,” I shook my head.

  “Yes, you are literally insane.”

“No, if I was insane, I’d be tied up in an asylum.”

“Maybe someone needs to call them,” she shot back at me.

“I’m getting the feeling that you’re not digging this whole thing.”

  “You think?”

“Maybe we should start over. I could take you out for coffee….”

“We just did that. I don’t think coffee is going to change my mind.”

“Well, I suppose we could try dinner. I have to tell you though, it’s been a while since I’ve been on a date. I’m a little rusty.”

“You don’t say. I never would have guessed.”

She shoved past me and walked out the door.

“So, is that a no?” I called after her.
