  Chapter Nine

  Baron

“Marquise, wait,” I shout to his fleeting back, but he doesn’t stop until he reaches the street.

He manages to hail a cab with the girl still in his arms. He's a badass. I don’t think I’d have the coordination to pull something like that off so effortlessly. It’s not what I was expecting when Frannie called us out here. A scared and filthy girl crouching behind a dumpster. No, not in the least. It must have been her tears that clinched it for Marquise. The one thing he can’t handle is a crying woman. It has something to do with his time before the orphanage. He never talks about that time, or at least, not with me. Though I’ve wondered about it, I know him well enough to leave it alone. He doesn’t like to dwell on the past. Instead, he focuses on the future.

“What was that all about?” Esther asks, staring after Marquise.

“I have no idea,” I answer honestly. He’s never shown an interest in a woman other than in passing, and its mostly actresses or anyone like them. I am in shock about the whole thing.

“Poor girl. She looked scared,” Frannie says. I nod my head in agreement. If I know my brother, and I think that I do, this means something. And it will be something big.

“She’s in good hands,” I promise.

“I am sure she is,” Frannie says.

“How much time do you have left before you are off?” I ask her.

“Ten minutes,” she says looking at her watch.

“Esther, will you excuse us?” I ask without looking at her. My eyes are glued and won’t come off of Frannie. Only Frannie. She keeps getting more gorgeous every fucking time I see her. I am about to the point where I will lock her ass in my penthouse and lose the fucking key.

“Yeah, of course. I’ll see you when I see you, Frannie,” she says as she is leaving.

“Bye Esther. That was rude Baron. What is so important that you had to send my best friend away?” She asks.

I move toward her, until she is backed against the wall and I’ve crowded her personal space. Taking a moment, I look down into her sparkling green eyes. Fisting my hands in her curly red hair, I pull her face closer to mine. Her perfume surrounds us.

“You are what’s important, Frannie. I can’t stand the thought of you working here. Your boss thinks he can touch what’s mine. I won’t and can’t stand for it to continue to happen. I need you to quit. This place is awful. You can do better and are so much better than this place.”

“Excuse me?” She says, pushing feebly at my chest.

“You heard me, baby. You don’t need this place,”

“I do, Baron. I really do. I have to get back inside, and you need to leave.”

“You are insane if you think I am leaving you here alone with your boss,” I say dryly.

“Of course, you’re not,” she says pushing past me.

I grab her slender arm and pull her back to me, kissing her intensely. She returns my kiss with fervor. A moan escapes out of her mouth before either of us knows it. I have her against the bricks again, yielding to me and my touch. I run my hand up her thigh and underneath her uniform skirt. This time, she doesn’t stop me. So, I continue upwards, until I reach her soaked panties. Pushing them to the side, I lightly run my fingers through her folds until I find her clit. I rub it briskly while pushing my cock against her hip.

“Stop, Baron,” she says. I do so immediately. “Oh fuck, don’t stop,” she moans, and I continue with my fingers running through her wet slit.

“I will never stop, Frannie. This pussy is mine. Mine. Do you understand me?” She nods, biting her lip. “Say it,” I demand, stopping the actions of my fingers.

  “Say what?” She asks, confused.

“Say that this pussy, this pussy right here, is mine.”

“Uh… my pussy is yours Baron,” she squeals as her pussy clenches my fingers.

“Damn right,” I groan as I come in my pants like a fucking teenager. She does this to me. She drives me fucking crazy. Lust is nothing compared to what I feel for her.

“Oh God, that felt sooo good,” she says gripping my shoulders as she comes down from her orgasm.

“Enjoy the rest of your shift, baby,” I say kissing her again.

“Don’t think that we won’t be talking more about this quitting business later,” she says, rolling her eyes at me. Fuck, even that little bit of sassiness coming from her turns me the fuck on.

“Count on it,” I say loud enough for her to hear. She turns to look at me, rolls her eyes, and flounces that perfect ass inside the building.

At the end of her shift, I am waiting for her to finish stacking the chairs by the door. Outside, on the street, she takes a deep breath and releases it. It is as if she is relieved her shift is finally over. One more reason to quit if you ask me.

When she is finally able to leave, I help as she gets into the backseat of my car. Without having to give the instructions again in front of Frannie, my driver heads for my home.

“I thought you were taking me home,” she says as we head in the opposite direction of her place.

“We have things to discuss,” I remind her.

“You really want to fight about this at one in the morning?” she asks pointedly.

“I only want to be with you, Frannie. If fighting will accomplish that, I’ll take it.”

  “You’re crazy, Baron Roades.”

“That very well may be Frannie, but you like my crazy.”

“God help me, but I do,” she reluctantly admits, causing me to chuckle.

“We’ll be at my place shortly,” I tell her.

“I remember, Mr. Fancy Pants,” she says giggling.

Pulling her closer to me, I wrap my arm around her shoulders, and she snuggles into my chest.

“So, you’ll quit?” I ask and she stiffens. Before she can say anything to negate that, I kiss her breathless. I know that I am in for a fight, but right now more than anything I want her lips under my own.

  Chapter Ten

  Frannie

I am trying to keep my head on straight and stay focused. The need to keep taking deep breaths to both calm down and clear the fog of lust that is currently clouding around me. I have spent most of the ride squirming in my seat, wanting to finish what he started in the alley behind my job. But now, as we pull into the driveway of his penthouse, I can't help but be a bit annoyed.

“You look like you have something to say to me?” He asks, as he opens the car door for me.

“I certainly do, mister. And I think it’s best we are inside your place first.” I try hiding the smile on my face at his chuckle.

I need to remain serious. If this crazy, ridiculous, and makes no sense thing between us is going to have a chance, I need for him to understand a few things. Getting on the elevator, I stand as far away from him as possible. No distractions.

“After you, baby.” He extends his arm leading me into his place. I love coming here. More than I should.

“Can I get you something to drink?” Turning to face him, I square my shoulders and charge straight ahead. The longer I take to confront him, the more likely he will sway me with his…charm.

“No thank you. What I would like is for you to stop trying to get me to quit my job. I can’t quit, Baron. I need this job. It is the only way I can pay for college.” Surely, he can understand that.

“Oh. That’s all? Tell me how much and I will send a check to the school.” Once again, he has managed to stun me. Is he serious? Is it nuts that I am considering letting him?

“Why are you fighting us, Red?” I have been asking myself the same thing and I keep coming up with the same answers.

“I am trying to hold on to who I am, Baron. You are...you are too much. Moving too fast. I need you to give me time. Some space even. I need to get used to...well...all this. I mean, none of it makes sense. But I am finding a way to understand what’s happening. Every time you bombard me, all I want to do is run.” I spit this information out fast and without holding
back. It scares me that I might stop myself from telling him how I feel. What he needs to hear. He sits, more like slumps onto the stool and I begin to feel bad.

“I’m sorry, Red. I... I’m sorry. I don’t want to push you away. It’s a problem I have. When I want something, I grab a hold of it and don’t let go. I don’t give it air to breathe or space to move. My mom says I have been this way ever since she has known me. I guess it comes from knowing that my own birth mother didn’t bother trying to hold onto me. She gave me up like I was nothing to her. I was barely a few hours old when she left me on the steps of the firehouse.” I can see the pain taking hold of him and my heart begins to break. This beautiful, caring, stifling, and sexy man is holding so much inside. Like me. I walk over to him and wrap my arms around his neck.

“I’m sorry, sweetie. I am so sorry. I can’t imagine how that must feel knowing that. At least I knew my parents loved me. You...I am sorry, Baron.” I don’t know what else to say, so, instead I connect my mouth with his and let my actions tell the story.

His hands immediately go to my waist and grab a hold like he is afraid to let go. My heart and head unleash a bit, recognizing the little baby desperate to maintain a hold of something that can’t be taken from him. I feel the acceptance his tongue is now seeking. No longer seeing it as commanding, but asking for permission to own, acquire...retain forever. It makes the ownership...sweeter...sexier even. No longer scared to say yes to the ownership, my hands fumble with his tie. The desperation is once again trying to take a hold of me. I feel as if I am going to climb him. What I was mad about is no longer prevalent. Hell, I can’t even remember why I was upset at this point. I am seconds away from removing my clothes when he pushes me away from him, while both of us are gasping for air and each other.

“Fuck, Red. I am trying so fucking hard not to seem like I am using sex as a way of getting what I want. Shit. Help me, ok! Let’s finish this conversation, so that when I take you again there is nothing else between us.” Well hell. That just made me even wetter. This man.

“Fine. I’m sorry. It just broke my heart to see you so...not you. But you are right.” We both sit there staring at one another. Our brains are trying to connect the conversations with our need for one another.

“Look. I need you not to try and take everything over. It’s appreciated that you want to take care of me and to be honest I find it endearing. I just...I need time to get used to not having to struggle. Do you understand? I am not saying no to the help or even that I won’t ask for it when I need it. I am simply saying no to you taking over. Do you understand that?” At this point I don't care if he can hear the pleading in my voice, or the begging for him to say that he gets it and we can get back to the fun stuff.

“I get it, baby. I’m sorry. From the moment my eyes landed on you, I have had this voice inside of me telling me you are mine to protect and spoil. And, I am used to following those voices...I mean that's how we got all this. But I hear you baby. I will work on it. But you have to promise me you won’t run from me again.”

“I promise.” I say to him, as I walk into his arms. With my head on his chest, I can feel his heartbeat, as mine tries to sync with his.

“Thank you.” he says letting out the breath I didn't know he was holding.

“I do have one more request, Red.” I lift my head and look into his eyes waiting for him to tell me what it is.

“My family has a weekly dinner. I would like for you to come with me. If you are ok with it, I want to introduce you to my family and them to you. Will you go with me?” I can feel myself tensing at the thought of his family not liking me and it’s more than a little overwhelming, but I can’t bring myself to say no.

“Yes, Baron. I will go with you. I would love to meet your family.” I just hope they want to meet me.

  Chapter Eleven

  Baron

“Baron, are you ever gonna do an honest day's work again? It's been a week man. Prince is gonna rip you a new one," Duke says to me in a way only a brother could.

"I will. Eventually. You just don't get it," I answer.

"You’re right. I don't. Enlighten me," he says.

“You saw her when you added her to the list. But, it’s much more than that. It’s everything. Somehow, she has awakened something inside of me that I didn’t know existed. To me, she is my everything. She still refuses to believe,” I tell him.

“I did see her, and wish I had some advice for you. Thankfully, I have never been in that type of situation before. Women don’t stick around when it comes to me. Didn’t you hire a bodyguard for her?”

“Of course, I did. He just sent over this report,” I say tossing the folder down on his desk. I watch as he opens it and sucks in a sharp breath.

“Who is this?” he asks harshly.

“Who?” I ask, standing by the chair in front of him. Leaning over his desk, I see Frannie and Esther standing in line at the coffee shop by their apartment.

“Oh, that’s Frannie’s roommate and best friend, Esther. Why?”

“No reason,” he says looking over the information portion of the packet.

“Sure,” I say chuckling. “Should I leave that with you?”

“I’ll drop it by later,” he says absently. I toss the bodyguard’s card on his desk as well.

“In case you need it,” I say walking out of his office and across the open space to mine.

Laurie is not at her desk as usual. Shaking my head, I head into my office and close the door behind me. For the next four hours, I do manage to work on a new marketing campaign for Stellar Industries. They were one of our first clients. Making implements that eventually ended up on the space station. Earlier today, they ran into a bit of trouble when a very large wrench floated out of its dock and knocked an astronaut out. There is a video of the incident and it went viral. As of now, we are in damage control mode. I think I have it under control at the moment.

At 4:45 my office door bursts open surprising me. Looking up from my computer, I am surprised to see Laurie standing there. She has changed her clothes from the business appropriate attire she had on earlier, to a short black dress. At first, I think nothing of it as it’s Friday. Perhaps she has a date tonight.

“Anything else I can help you with sir?” she asks.

“No, that will be all Laurie. Have a good weekend.”

“Sir, Baron? May I be frank?”

  “I wish you wouldn’t,” I reply dryly.

“She’s not good enough for you,” she responds anyway.

“Excuse me?” I ask her, confused.

“The girl from before. She’s not good enough for you. She’ll never understand the demands on your time. Not like I do.” She stands with her hands on her hips.

“Laurie, this is completely out of left field and totally inappropriate. Who do you think you are bringing up something like that?”

“I am just the girl who has done everything you have ever asked of me,” she says.

“Surely you don’t mean the job you are paid to do, do you?” I ask incredulously. She can’t be fucking serious right now.

“I love you and I know you love me, Baron,” she says. I hear someone else clear their throat behind her. I look around her and see Frannie leaning up against the door jam.

“What the fuck is going on here?” She asks. I can tell she is pissed.

  “You’re early,” I say stupidly.

“Oh, should I come back after you’ve finished with her?” she asks.

“No, of course not. Laurie you’re fired.” I say matter of factly.

  “What?” Laurie asks incredulously.

“You heard me. You are fired. Get your personal things and leave. A security guard will take your badge and escort you out.

  “You’ll regret this Baron Roades.”

“I already regret hiring you in the first place, so I doubt it.”

I pick up my desk phone and request security to come and assist. I’ll deal with the HR nightmare later. When
all that is done, I find Frannie sitting on the couch still fuming.

“What, what was that all about?” she says quietly.

“I was blindsided by that train wreck,” I answer honestly.

“If I had known you had something going on with her, I wouldn’t have let this happen,” she says.

“What are you talking about?” I ask confused.

“I thought that we could maybe have sex before dinner, but I walk into this mess instead. She gave me a bitch face whenever I came in here. She looked at me like I was encroaching on her territory, but I dismissed it.”

“I told you that I had never been with anyone before. Why don’t you trust me?” I ask.

“I do trust you, but I am falling for you and I don’t know what to do about that, Baron. I am lost.” She spews this so frantically and releases her breath after she is finished.

“I already fell, Frannie. There is nothing to do but fall.” Shrugging my shoulders, I decide being honest might be best.

“I know, but it’s hard for me,” Frannie says so softly. I am afraid she is going to cry.

“I am going to be here every step of the way. I won’t hurt you. I’d die first.” I couldn’t be more serious.

“I don’t think that will be necessary,” she says laughing.

I move closer to her and kiss her softly. The kiss gets deeper and deeper until she reaches for my belt opening it.

I manage to get her to the edge of my desk, where I lay her down on it. The dress she has on enables me to push her legs far apart. I run my fingers through her folds, finding her wet. My pants fall to the floor, I pull my cock out of my boxers, slide her panties to the side, and slide into her slowly. She moans as her fingers grip my shoulders and her pussy grips my hard cock inside of her. Leaning down, I kiss her before really starting to fuck into her. She takes everything I give her, wrapping her legs around my waist. Things are falling off of my desk with the power of my thrusts, but I don’t care.
