The narrowly oblong 1/4th" x 3/4th" acorns are enclosed by a shallow scaly cap, and are born singly on the end of a stalk. The trees are much the same symmetry as burr oaks, being thirty to fifty feet tall with a spreading crown somewhat broader than the tree is tall. They are indigenous to very restricted parts of the thinly forested, savanna-like rolling uplands of the Forest Primeval flanking the great Fairy Valley. A number of them, particularly the female known as Longbark, are claimed to possess a magical intelligence which the Fairies regard highly. A number of wizard's staves and rods have been made from Longbark's branches, including the Great Staff of Power. The Fairies make a slightly bitter tea from their leaves which is similar to yerba mate, except that its alkaloid concentration is four to five times as strong as that of mate and must be drunk with milk. The Fairies also make bread which can be kneaded from a glutinous flour made from its acorns.

Fairies - Homo sapiens viridihirsutensis R. a race of humans indigenous to the primeval oak forests of Fairy Valley and to the lands which became the Chokewoods under Razzorbauch's enchantment, characterized by alabaster-white skin, eyes with emerald green irises, pointed ears and brilliant green hair that has metallic iridescence in sunlight and which develops bright yellow streaks with advancing age much as the hair of other races turns grey or white. They are, like their Elven cousins, highly intuitive and predisposed to magical abilities. However, their attunement with their surroundings far exceeds that of the Elves and has become a specialized involvement with the green world, particularly with oak trees. Barring accidents, they are immortal.

They have a vastly expanded visual cortex, giving them a large occipital bun at the base of their skull. They hunt in groups, exclusively at night. They are quite adept at making crude wooden hafted and shafted stone tools such as knives, mauls and spears. They do not make, nor have they been seen to make use of such devices as bows and atlatls or fluid holding vessels. They have life-long pair bonds and share in the rearing of their young in a human-like manner, unlike their cousins, the Jutish trolls, Homo neanderthalensis jutlandii R. Though they frequently make temporary shelters of animal skins, they prefer large caverns and rocky recesses able to shelter extended family groups. They possess true language, though the only language of theirs which is known lacks some of the discrete parts of speech common to most Human languages. It is far more sonorous and nasal sounding than any known human language. Since the time of Thunderman Vefnaryr, trolls have taken up a Pidgeon-Niarg speech and have taken to using sunglasses in particular, human hand tools and firearms. Adolescent and young adult trolls have fallen prey to widespread sukee and rush (crystalline sukere which is smoked) addiction since the roundup and confinement of the trolls to wards by the World Alliance when they began their rule.

Jutish trolls - also known as solitary trolls, Homo neanderthalensis jutlandii R., are indigenous to the heavy deciduous forests of the Jut of Niarg. Like their cousins of the Eastern Continent, the Gwaelic or social trolls, Homo neanderthalensis gwaelii R., these hominids are very heavy bodied and have a greatly expanded visual cortex, giving them a large occipital bun on their cranium. They are exclusively nocturnal and solitary and do not form pair bonds. Their sexual behavior resembles that of the orangutan, and the young are reared exclusively by the female. It is not known whether or not they possess true language, though accounts given by the rare individuals who have survived their assaults suggest that they might have. They do not build shelters but live permanently in rocky recesses, from which they range only short distances. Their tools consist only of rudimentarily trimmed sticks and stones. They have not been known to use fire. They are omnivorous, but show a distinct preference for the raw flesh of large animals that stray near their dens. Accidental encounters with them are considered very dangerous by Elves and other humans who live within their range.
