Sparks of Love

“What makes you think she wanted to play baseball?”

“She loved the game. She didn’t follow softball. She followed baseball and players. She would’ve liked you. She liked the five-tool players, guys who were consistent and could do more than one or two things on the field. I wish I would’ve been more athletic. Maybe she and I could’ve enjoyed more together. By the time I was a teenager, I didn’t want to play catch with her anymore. I wasn’t good at it. I wasn’t coordinated. I’m still not. I’m much better at massage and moving slowly than trying to be the ball.”

Jason chuckled. “I always prefer breathing through my eyelids.”

“A Bull Durham reference?” I grinned. “Well, if I wasn’t in danger of falling in love with you before…” I sealed my lips. I couldn’t believe that just came out of my mouth.

“Baseball movie quotes are the way to your heart?”

“It certainly doesn’t hurt.” I tried to act nonchalant.

“I’ve got an entire collection of them. Kevin Costner baseball movies, especially.”

His hand slid over my ass briefly as he prepared dinner.

“Something about building it and they will…”

He arched an eyebrow suggestively. “Come?”

Heat surged through my body. “Yeah, something like that.”

We sat down for dinner at the counter.

“I want to eat, but my appetite isn’t for this.” His voice was low and full of suggestion.

“You’re free to eat me out while I eat dinner, but if you want me to be up for a couple of rounds, I need fuel.”

“I like it when you talk like that.” Jason smirked and leaned forward, his fingers skimming along my inner thigh. “Eat up, because when you’re done, I’m going to wear you out.”

  “Promises. Promises.”

Morning drifted in through the curtains, bringing the hot sun over the bed. Though that’s not what had me warming up. Sleep was still holding me, the fuzziness slowly slipping away. As I came back to my own body, the heat pooling between my legs was the first sensation that caught my full attention.

My legs were spread, Jason’s tongue was dipping between my folds, licking and sucking at my pussy, slowly and methodically. I had to be dreaming—everything felt too good and too amazing. My eyes fluttered open, only to meet his, our eyes locking. His hands slid up my body to my breasts as his languid mouth grew more vigorous as he ate me out.

My fingers splayed over the soft sheets as I arched into a wave of ecstasy. I thought my body would be wiped out and unable to achieve any more pleasure after everything we did the night before, but clearly, I’d been mistaken. Jason knew exactly had to wring every ounce of desire from me.

As the sleepiness completely faded, leaving me with raw hunger and lust, my moans filled the room. I didn’t have time to panic about having slept all night at his house or worry about taking up too much of the bed or cuddling with him.

I’d stayed the night and Jason was hardly sated.

“Calaveras, I want you,” I moaned.

He nipped at the inside of my thigh.

  “I want you inside me.”

Jason gave me a few more laps, then climbed up my body, kissing, caressing, and tonguing as he went. Stopping to worship my breasts, his teeth grazing my hard nipples, fingers pinching, hands cupping and groping. By the time he was kissing me, I was on the edge of coming. His hard cock pushed against my pussy as he kissed me, his hips rocking.

“Fuck, I love eating you out. You're so fucking hot when you’re horny and needy.”

“Jason…” I moaned. I was panting, my hips lifting to his, trying to entice him to take me already.

He abruptly sat back on his heels.

  “Get on your knees.”

I propped myself up on my elbows and looked at him.

  “What?”

  “On your knees, Blaze. Now.”

I rolled onto my side, taking a deep breath, self-consciousness deflating my arousal a little. I wasn’t sure it would be the most flattering position for me. What if he didn’t like what he saw?

“Blaze…” His tone was dark, warning.

I stole a deep breath and turned onto my hands and knees. I waited, holding my breath for him to do or say something. I felt exposed and far more than naked.

“Fucking hell, Blaze.” His fingers slipped between my thighs, gently probing my slick heat. “You are unbelievably sexy.”

I exhaled loudly as a rush of relief flooded me.

He placed his hands on either side of my hips, his large thighs moving between my legs, pushing mine further apart, making room for himself.

“I’m clean. I got tested a couple of weeks ago. I can show you the piece of paper.”

I swallowed hard. Was he saying what I think he was saying?

“You’re on birth control?” he asked quietly.

He leaned over my body, his chest pressing against my back. He lifted me up off my hands and held me against him, his breath hot on my ear. His dick slid along my pussy, back and forth in a torturously slow rhythm.

  “I am,” I breathed.

“How would you feel about… no barriers between us?” His hands reached up and cupped my breasts while he thrust a little harder against me, the head of his cock hitting my clit, making me jerk and cry out.

“Fuck me, Calaveras, you’re making this torture. I’m clean too.”

  “Is that a yes?”

  “Fuck, yes.”

He groaned against my ear. Reaching between our bodies, he pushed his cock into me roughly, then pushed me back down to all fours. His fingers dug into my fleshy hips, and he pulled me to him as he fucked his steel rod cock in and out of me.

My breasts swung from the force of his thrusts, and my fingers dug into the sheets, gripping them, only able to hold on as he fucked me.

“Touch yourself. I want to feel you come on my cock.”

I closed my eyes and lowered my top half onto one shoulder, so I could have my hand free. I reached down my body, between my legs, and found my clit. I was drenched in my own desire, and feeling his cock moving in and out of me left me a little breathless. I rubbed slow circles over my clit, and everything inside of me charged toward my orgasm. A few breathless, hot, moaning seconds later, my pussy clamped down and clenched around his cock.

He roared as he felt me come, his thrusts increasing until he slammed into me, thrusting deep and holding himself inside of me as he released. I could feel him pulsing as he came inside me.

I’d never let anyone come inside of me before.

Jason wrapped his arm around my middle and pulled us into a spooning position, still hard inside me. He kissed along my shoulder, scraping his teeth along my neck.

  “Did I hurt you?”

“No.” Though I could still feel where his fingertips dug into my hips, I gently ran my fingers over his hand, possessively holding me against him. “Is this the sort of thing a girl can get used to if she stays over?”

His teeth captured my earlobe gently.

“I think I can safely say, the more your naked body is around, the more I’ll happily take advantage of it.”

I laughed. “As long as you’re happy.”

After that morning, it wasn’t so hard to stay relaxed around him or even, stay over.

  Jason

The last few weeks went by in a blur of sex, conversation, a few outings—movies, dinners, and rehab sessions. I sat on the table, waiting for Blaze to return. She’d left me to get dressed. The formality was a little ridiculous at this point. It wasn’t like she hadn’t seen every inch of my naked body. We’d been spending a lot of time together, and without baseball filling most of my time, I’d gotten accustomed to spending time with her. I felt like time was quickly running out, expecting a play clock to sound any moment now.

I wasn’t sure what the coach had in mind when he decided I needed a break from the game altogether, but I was pretty sure going out with a woman and fucking her
brains out all the time was probably not what he expected.

Blaze knocked the on the door.

  “Come in.”

She stepped into the room and closed the door behind her, leaning back against it, almost like she was blocking my exit.

“You, my friend, are done with treatment. At least, by my standards. You’ll have to go back to your doctor to get an official release to go back to playing.”

“Does that mean we’re finally able to fraternize without you looking over your shoulder all the time?”

“That’s what you’re focused on? Dude, you can play baseball again.”

She was right. Why did the idea completely terrify me? Sitting in the doctor’s office a few weeks ago, waiting for them to tell me my entire career was over before it even started had put the burn of terror in my chest.

“We should celebrate tonight.” Mostly, I wanted a reason to hang out with Blaze. We’d been spending a lot of time together, and I found being around her left me feeling relaxed as if everything was okay. Like I wasn’t on the verge of losing everything. Like maybe there was more to life than baseball.

Maybe all of this was exactly what the coach had in mind.

  “Um, I can’t tonight. But tomorrow…”

“Another hot date?” I stood up and took a couple of steps toward her. She was already pressed back against the door, but she pushed back against it.

“I pretty sure the number of hot men in Jubilee Falls knocking on my door is one.”

“Are you keeping your plans a secret from me?” I moved toward her until I was right in front of her, putting my hand on the door just above her head.

“I, ah, was trying to avoid telling you, yes.” Her chest was rising and falling rapidly as if she was nervous. She hadn’t been like that around me for a couple of weeks.

“Any particular reason?” I leaned down until I was a hairbreadth from her mouth.

“It’s my birthday, and my dad and his wife insisted on throwing me a dinner party.”

“It’s your birthday?” I didn’t like the sadness crowding her eyes.

  “It is.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I wasn’t the biggest fan of my birthday either, but I wanted to celebrate her.

“I hate birthdays. And going to my dad’s house only further punctuates how much I hate them. I go. I put on a fake smile and pretend I like ham or whatever horrible meal my stepmother has cooked for me, under my father’s wrong memory of what my favorite food is. Her perfect daughter will make a perfect cake. They’ll be the perfect family. And how nice is it for them to celebrate the outcast daughter?”

“Is it really that bad?” I reached up and cupped her face, and she leaned into my touch.

“I don’t know, but it certainly feels that way a lot of the time. I just don’t belong there. They said I could invite anyone I wanted. I asked Allison to come, just because she needs to get out of her apartment. She’s started to turn into a hermit. She usually works as a good buffer.”

“Do you want me to come?”

Her brown eyes met mine. “Do you want to come?”

“It’s your birthday, Blaze. You should have the people you want around you. And I bet your dad is happy to see you when he can. How good would it look, bringing a hot baseball player to dinner?”

“Are you going to get one of the Coyotes to come over too?”

There was that overwhelming fierce push of possessiveness I got whenever she joked about other men. I didn’t like it, not even as a joke. No one else was touching her but me. Even with the teasing smile playing over her full lips, I still wanted to mark her and make her scream until she couldn’t think about any other man but me. I put my other hand on her hip and dug my fingers into her a little. Her lips parted.

“I would love it if you came to dinner, Jason. But I warn you… it’s not going to be fun.”

“Maybe not, but I promise you’ll have fun afterward.”

She cleared her throat. “I’ll pick you up at 6:30?”

I couldn’t help but smile triumphantly. Taking a step back, I gave us both space. This was her place of work, and I didn’t want to damage that in any way. She handed me a bottle of water.

“Drink lots of water. Continue to stretch. And if you need follow up time or a massage, just call and schedule an appointment.”

“You’ll be my first call when I need your hands.”

She gave me a shove. “Get out of here before you make me late.” She opened the door. I left without touching her even though it’s all I wanted.

But now, I had a mission. I needed to find a birthday gift for the birthday girl.

Blaze showed up right on time. Trotting out the door toward her car, I dropped into the passenger seat. I took in her black dress with pink polka dots, her hair pulled up into another do with curls and loops and a pink matching scarf, and her lips pink. It was killing me that I was going to have wait all night to properly touch her.

  “Happy Birthday, babe.”

She let out a put-upon sigh. “Thanks.”

“Come on, Blaze. Why do you hate your birthday? You deserve to have a birthday week! A birthday month if you wish.”

“You’re a funny man. Having three hours of birthday is quite enough, thank you.”

I slid my hand over her leg and dragged her dress up, tracing over her creamy, lush thigh with my fingers.

Blaze spread her legs and leaned back against her seat. Her head rolled back, and she closed her eyes. She wanted an escape. She really didn’t want to go to her dad’s house.

“Tell me about your family,” I said quietly, my fingers dancing along the soft flesh toward her panty line, her breath getting heavy.

  “What about them?”

“Why is there so much frustration? Most people love spending time with their family.”

She shifted in the seat, spreading her legs even more.

  “I don’t know if that’s true.”

I stole a glance at her, enjoying her flushed cheeks.

“Okay, so tell me what is true.”

“I don’t know. My dad got remarried, and I went off to college. When I came back, there was nothing for me there. I had to stay in that house until I could afford my own thing. I worked my ass off and got a crappy studio apartment by the end of the summer. Once I moved out, they completely eradicated any sign I had been there in the first place.”

I slid my hand back to her knee. “Did you ever talk to your dad?”

  “I don’t think he’d understand or care.”

Maybe it’s why we fit so well together. We understood abandonment and not feeling like we belonged anywhere. Or maybe I was just turning into a stupid romantic. I liked being around Blaze, liked how she made me feel. When she was around me, it was because she wanted to be, but there was something more to it I couldn’t quite put my finger on.

“You sure you want to meet my family? That’s a little more like a boyfriend than a fuck buddy until you get called up to the Majors.”

“You’re more than a fuck buddy, Blaze. I thought I made that pretty clear.”

  “You did.”

Blaze turned to look out the window. “Did you see the doctor?”

“Yeah, he cleared me to go back. Coach called me and said I could play tomorrow. He also said the scouts would be coming down for the three games we have over 4th of July weekend.”

  “That’s exciting. I’m sure you’ll be a shoo-in.”

Then why did the idea of getting called up to the Majors leave me feeling torn?

“Yeah, I think it’s going to be a good summer. Your birthday is on the first day of summer.” I just realized the date.

“Summer solstice, baby. That’s me.” She got into a driving position and pulled away from the curb.

Once we were parked outside of her dad’s home, we got out of the car and headed up. Blaze looked so miserable, I wanted to grab her hand and run back to the car. I didn’t want her to be miserable. It was her birthday. We should b
e celebrating her.

Before we even made it to the front stoop, the door flew open. The woman from the bar the night Blaze and I met pushed open the screen door and leaned on the door frame with a smug smile.

“You’ve been holding out on me.” Her gaze flickered back and forth between us.

Blaze pulled her hand out of mine and shook her head. “I have not. Don’t make a big deal.”

The jilted bride didn’t look as upset as she did the night I saw her, but I knew the story. Blaze told me. Her wedding was no more, but she seemed pretty happy now. Or maybe she was putting on a face for her best friend.

“You know, if you were really my friend, you would’ve told my father not to do this.”

“I love you and want to celebrate your birth. So, sue me.” She shrugged. “Plus, you need a reminder that everyone loves you.”

Blaze rolled her eyes, hugged her friend, then turned back to me. “Allison, this is Jason. Jason, this is Allison.”

  I shook Allison’s hand.

“It’s really nice to meet you. Finally. I’ve heard only a little about you,” she said, grinning like she knew something neither of us knew. “B, you should really know something.”

  “Blaze, is that you?”

Blaze’s expression grew even more distraught, but it was gone in a flash. She pasted on the fakest smile I’d ever seen her produce. “Sylvia.”

Allison waved us in, and I stepped into the foyer of her childhood home. Being the tallest person in the room by nearly a foot, I stayed by the door while a mother figure pulled Blaze into a tight hug.

“Happy birthday, Blaze. You look nice. I always love your special style. Did you have this dress made for you?”

Blaze kept her fake smile on her face but didn’t respond.

The woman, I presumed Blaze’s stepmom, looked over at me.

“Who is this young man? I didn’t know you were bringing anyone.” Her expression faltered as if my presence ruined something she had up her sleeve.
