“Kev?” Aubrey said, snapping me back to the present.

“Huh?” I asked, seeing that Derek and Joss were back already.

“You were somewhere else for a while,” she rubbed my arm.

The worst part is nothing crossed my mind. Not Bryn, Kennedy, or Skylar. Nothing. I silently wondered if I was starting to lose it. Other than detoxing, this had to be the worse time in my life. Emotionally, I was spent. Mentally, I was shut down, and physically I was just going through the motions to make it through another day. Tomorrow would be nerve wracking, how does one prepare for a paternity test with a kid he didn’t even know existed until twenty-four hours ago. A nine-year-old at that. What would this mean with me supposed to go back to Smithville? The questions started circling my brain when Derek lifted up his shirt revealing Joss’ name right where his heart would be.

“I feel like I’m on top of the fucking world,” Derek practically roared. “Let’s head to Lux. We need to celebrate, but not before making a pit stop at the jeweler next door first.”

“Ugh, you two make me sick,” Blake grimaced playfully. “Meet us there when you’re done.”

  Derek

To say the past twenty-four hours were a whirlwind would be an understatement. I dodged the biggest bullet I could have ever missed because of Joss’s detective work and finding out that Skylar wasn’t mine. It’s not that I wouldn’t have been willing to step up to the plate if things were different, but honestly I didn’t want to relive that part of my life. I wasn’t in a good place, and Kennedy wasn’t the right girl for me. Joss looked up at me with her sparkling blue eyes and smiled. She was so fucking beautiful; it took my breath away.

She eyes me quizzically. “Why the jewelry store?”

“I have a piece of you on me forever and though it’s too early to ask you to marry me, I want to get you one of those promise ring thingy’s.”

“A thingy, huh? You’re so romantic, you know that?” She laughed.

“What can I say, I try.”

Putting my arm around her, I opened the door and walked inside. I used to think of these things as nails in coffins. I didn’t think about marriage at all, even though I was technically still married to Kennedy. That wouldn’t be for much longer either. As soon as Monday morning rolled around, I was hand-delivering them to my attorney’s office so they could get that in motion.

“Pick out whatever you want, it’s yours,” I told her.

A saleswomen came from the other side of the store over to where we were standing. “Can I help you?” Her tone was dry and not overly friendly. Granted, I probably looked like I just rolled out of bed and put on whatever clothes I could find, which, in this case, would be an accurate statement. I spent all night making love, not fucking, Joss and this morning I didn’t want to waste one minute as our first official day as a couple.

Joss walked around staring in each case, studying. “Can I see that one, please?”

“That ring is ninety-four hundred dollars, miss,” the sales lady said in a condescending tone. Joss’ face turned red in embarrassment, and my blood started to boil. I walked to stand next to her and put my arm around her.

“Listen, not for nothing, but I’m sure you can’t afford most of the shit in this place, and if I weren’t in a rush you wouldn’t be getting my fucking business. My girlfriend said she would like to see that ring, so if you show it to her we can pay and be on our way.”

She huffed and put a key into the lock and slid the glass door open. Pulling out the tray holding the ring Joss wanted to see, she eyed me skeptically but handed it to her anyway. Before she could get it on her finger, I took it between my fingers and studied it for a second. It was a dark color platinum with small black gems on either side and an oval diamond in the center. I liked it. It was very Joss. Putting my fingers on either side of the ring, I slid it onto hers. It fit perfect like it was meant to be.

“Do you like it, babe?” I asked.

She nodded, still seeming to be embarrassed by the sales lady.

“Ring it up, please.” I slid my debit card and signed the receipt with a smug look on my face. Take that cunt. I thought to myself.

Nothing pissed me off more than people judging a book by its cover. If we took the time to get to know people based on their character instead of their looks the world wouldn’t be full of so many assholes. As soon as we were outside the door, I pushed Joss lightly up against the brick wall next to the store and pressed my nose to her.

“Joss Potter, you are my rock, my world, and the only love in my life. You always keep me guessing and have the best smile. I hope you not only know, but feel my love for you. I’m going to fuck up from time to time, but I’m yours. Forever.”

Pressing my lips to hers, I slid my tongue into her mouth where she was waiting. Her hands reached up and pulled my hair so that I was as close to her as possible.

“They can wait a little while longer for us,” she laughed and we were off.

  KEVIN

The bright lights from Lux came into view. It was a place we used to frequent when we first moved to LA. The club scene hadn’t been my ideal for years now. Especially, since I associated it with getting shit faced and doing both lines and girls in the bathroom.

We walked up the street, passing the line of people that were already wrapped around the corner anxiously awaiting their turn to get in. Once at the front, Jake waved to the bouncer. He lifted the rope, standing off to the side to let us in. All I could hear over the music was them talking about getting drinks. I wasn't going to risk it. As they headed to the bar, I went in search of a table toward the back. The floor vibrated and lights flashed, as the music pounded from all over the jam packed room. Every few steps someone would bump into me.

Not even five minutes in and I already wished I was back home.

“Kevin,” I heard someone yell but kept walking.

After much effort, I finally made it to the back of the club and took up real estate at a corner VIP table. Rubbing the tabletop, it brought back memories of the time we used to spend here at this very spot. It felt like déjà vu being back. After I hooked up with Bryn and got clean, I left my party days behind. Except for the occasional mandatory after venue appearance, I avoided anything that would cause a relapse.

As I was climbing into the booth, I turned around to see someone standing at the edge of the table. Dana. Wow, I hadn’t seen her in a long time. Probably since right before I started seeing Bryn. We hooked up for a while right after I moved here. She was one of the first people I met.

She grinned at me. Her dark hair looked almost black in the light. Her gray eyes were covered in dark eye shadow making her look like a sex goddess. She was always a knockout and crazy in the sack.

“Hey Dana,” I practically yelled, so she could hear me over the music.

“Holy hell! How are you?” She yelled back. “I haven’t seen you around these parts in forever.” I moved closer to her, so we could yell back and forth in a lame attempt to have a conversation.

“I’m okay. I’ve been better, but that’s life right?” I shrugged.

Tonight was not going to turn into a pity party for one. Pitbull sang about having the time of your life, which I most certainly was not. I was regretting that I agreed to come, for at least the tenth time since leaving the apartment. In Lux's defense, it wasn't bad when there was a live venue, but the drunk people falling all over themselves made it less than stellar. Especially for someone trying to stay sober.

Dana stood on her tippy toes and cupped her hand around my ear. “It’s so loud here. Do you want to go out back and talk? We can catch up for a few.”

Part of me knew this probably wasn’t the best idea, but what the hell. Right now, anything was better than sitting in here. Finally, everyone came over from the bar with drinks in hand. Aubrey and Piper were mock dancing holding their drinks above their heads. I waved my hand, so they could see where the table was.

Jake looked between Dana and I. He se
emed to be hesitating for a second. He knew our past. I grabbed his arm and told him I was going to get some air and catch up. For a couple seconds, he seemed like he wanted to stop me, before nodding and stepping aside. The look on his face told me what I already knew, don’t do anything stupid.

Dana took my hand and pulled me back to the staff door that led out into the back parking lot. The unpleasant smell from the dumpster was heavy in the air. A couple was dry fucking on the hood of a car less than ten feet away, and yet it felt nice. She took a seat on the concrete slab and patted the spot next to her.

“Ugh, it’s so much better out here, and quieter. The weather isn’t too shabby either. So what’s new and exciting? How’s the music thing working out? From what I’ve seen it looks like it’s taken off.” She winked.

The street light above where we were sitting kept fizzling as I rubbed the back of my neck. “Yeah, the music thing ended up working out. I’ve been between LA and Ohio a lot the past year. Jake got married. We’ve ended up setting up shop there, so he can be home with his kids more.”

“That’s cool, I guess. I have family out there. Lots of farms,” she wrinkled her nose. “Anything else? I’ve done a few modeling gigs, but so far nothings come of it, they only want me to take my clothes off. Which means, I'm still doing the day job thing."

Shaking my head. “Welcome to Hollywood. Where dreams come to die.”

She reached for a necklace tucked into her shirt and pulled out a small vial attached to one and popped off the lid. “I need to lose ten pounds." She lifted the vile to her nose and snorted. “It's the quickest way. You want some?”

Did I? That was a stupid question. Of course I did, but I couldn’t go down that road. It’s only a little coke, the voice in my head said.

“Sure,” I knew I was going to regret it, but I needed something to take this edge off. Lifting the vial to my nose, I let the white powder infiltrate my system. “Thanks.”

“Wanna go for a walk? It’s so nice out! It feels like such a waste to sit around here. Let’s go catch up properly.” She lifted her hands above her head exposing her sexy stomach and climbed to her feet holding her hand out. Placing my hand in hers, I stood and started walking beside her. “So any lady friends I should know about?”

“Nope,” I didn’t want to get into it. Not tonight. I just wanted to forget. “Want to head to my place? I’m walking distance.”

  “Perfect,” she grinned.

  CHAPTER FIVE

  SCREAM NOW

By the time our quick walk back to my place was over, the coke was in full effect. I was feeling good, really good. I fumbled, finally flipping the switch to illuminate the living room. Dana turned to me and pressed her lips to mine. Jumping up, she wrapped her arms around my neck and legs around my waist. She was tiny enough that I could hold her up using just one hand under her ass. Ten more pounds and she was going to waste away to nothing.

A smirk grew on her face, “how about we go get reacquainted?”

Carrying her back to my bedroom, I stopped dead in my tracks when I heard a ruffling coming from the walk in closet. I put a finger to my lips telling her to be quiet and set her down on her feet. One foot in front of the other¸ trying to be silent I pushed the door the rest of the way open.

Looking like a deer in the headlights, Bryn stood there dropping a handful of stuff. “What the hell!”

“What are you doing back here?” I asked her. “You said you’d be in touch to come get the rest of your things and made it pretty fucking clear that you wanted nothing to do with me. You can come back later.” It was the coke talking, but it still felt a little good to make her feel some of the pain that I’d been experiencing. I pointed to the door.

Picking up a few things she dropped, she walked out and saw Dana standing there.

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me! Not even twenty-four hours after I’m gone, and you’re already back to fucking skanks. Great job, Kevin. You’re just proving what I guess I knew deep down all along,” she took her ring off and tossed it at my face before slamming the bedroom door.

“I thought you didn’t have any lady friends I needed to worry about,” Dana laughed.

“We’re over. Now where were we?” I asked, leaning down to kiss her.

Her hand reached down and cupped me. She began stroking me through my jeans. Everything was heightened, and despite what just happened, I felt on top of the world. Dropping to her knees, she undid my pants, her silky tongue swirled around my balls. I ran my hands through her thick hair, stopping at the base of her neck and held her there while she continued her assault. Slowly, she worked her way up my shaft to the tip of my now painfully hard erection.

My eyes met her lust filled ones as she licked her plump lips and opened her mouth taking me inside. The moist heat from her mouth and the smoothness of her tongue felt like heaven as she took me in deeper, inch my inch until she reached the base. As she moved out, she pressed her tongue up slightly, making me jerk in her mouth. Fuck, it felt good. I began guiding her gently using my hands laced in her hair to keep up a steady pace. She worked me in and out of her mouth, swirling her tongue, pressing up on all the right spots and before long, I was coming down the back of her throat. Offering her my hand, I helped her to her feet as she wore a smug sense of satisfaction.

“My turn.” Grabbing her by the hips, I sat her on the edge of the bed and began an assault of my own. Starting by gently rubbing my thumb on her clit, down to her entrance, I slipped a finger inside, then another as I licked her bare pussy. Placing her feet on either shoulder, I tasted her as if she were my favorite meal. Her juices were soaking my fingers, and I knew she was close.

“Fuck me,” she cried out. “Now!”

She wasn’t going to have to tell me twice, and I was already more than ready for round two. Getting to my feet, I grabbed a condom from the end table and positioned myself with her heat. Gliding the tip up and down her slit, I teased her clit one last time before sliding in and filling her with a swift motion. Letting out a loud moan as she arched her back, making her fake perfect DD’s bounce.

“Harder,” she demanded. Picking up the pace, I slid out to the tip and thrust forward again. Slow, then fast. “I’m going to cum!”

“Let it go, baby! Let me feel you.”

Her nails dug into my forearm, as I felt her muscles tighten around me. She went over the edge as I followed her.

“That was awesome! You certainly learned a thing or two since when we used to hang out,” she teased.

I pulled out and ditched the condom in the trash before going and taking a spot next to her on the bed. She asked if I was going to tell her what happened with Bryn. So I explained about what happened at the wedding. I told her about Kennedy and Skylar and what a clusterfuck my life had turned into.

“That’s some serious shit,” she rubbed my arm and sighed. “So the test is tomorrow?”

Nodding, I wrapped my arm around her. I was already crashing from the coke and wanted more, but convinced myself that it was a one-time thing. Sleeping with Dana probably wasn’t the best idea either, but I’d be lying if it didn’t feel fucking fantastic and make me feel a little better.

I wasn’t unattractive, according to everyone else I was the exact opposite, but I lacked the personalities the other guys had. They saw what they wanted and took it. When I was on drugs or drinking, it was easier for me to be in that element. Otherwise, I lacked the confidence to take what I wanted.

“Did you want to stay, or is that a stupid question?”

Pressing her back closer to my chest, “there’s no place I’d rather be right now.”

My phone kept ringing in the pocket of my jeans, but I couldn’t be bothered going to pick it up. It was probably just one of the guys anyway. Sleep took over, and I drifted off…

Banging. More banging. Followed by yelling. Must be morning.

“I’m kicking the door in if you don’t get your fucking ass up and open up this minute,” a pissed
off Aubrey was waiting on the other side.

Sliding out from behind Dana, I made my way to the front door and opened it.

“You could have saved yourself a lot of effort and possibly your voice box. The door was unlocked,” I motioned for her to come in.

“Where did you disappear to last night?” She demanded.

“Dana and I were catching up. We came back here and fell asleep. Besides, I wasn’t up for going out partying.”

She was shooting daggers at me. “You have exactly fifteen minutes to shower and be back here before we have to leave and head to the lab. Move.”

  “Yes, ma’am.”

Making my way back to the bedroom, I saw Dana sprawled across my bed. Her hair was in disarray, and she looked sexy as hell. My dick twitched. I quickly grabbed a change of clothes and made my way into the bathroom. After brushing my teeth, splashing some water on my face, and taking a shower I was ready in record time.

I grabbed a pen and paper from the kitchen and wrote Dana a note. I left it on the pillow next to her for her to find when she regained consciousness, so she didn’t think it was a fuck and run. Aubrey was tapping her watch and her foot. I closed the door behind me and made sure it was locked this time. She chirped the white Range Rover and handed me a green tea from Starbucks.

“Sometimes I swear I’m going to go prematurely gray looking after all of you. Jake was worried sick. He wanted to come here last night, but I reassured him you wouldn’t be doing anything stupid and I better not find out otherwise,” she glared at me out of the corner of her eye and I felt extremely guilty. “Listen, I know things are shitty right now, but you don’t get to use it an excuse to go out of control. It never ends good, and you damn well know it.”

  “Bryn was there last night.”

She slammed on the brakes and pulled off to the side of the road. “And?”
