Broken

“I want you to put your English teacher’s hat on and go crazy with the red pen, Mr. Walker.”
His smile faded as he pulled a serious, teacherish face. “Very well. You will be graded on the curve, Ms. Rivers.”
I didn’t see Adam for the remainder of the late afternoon, until dinner was ready. When I went in to let him know he could take a break, he held his finger up, telling me to give him a minute. Leaning in from the side to see where he was up to, I was surprised that he was nearly halfway through the story. When he reached a scene break, he stopped, saved the file, and placed the laptop on the bed beside him.
“This story is amazing, Evie.” He beamed. “I love it, even if I’m not the target market.”
“Could that be ‘cause Mac reminds you of you?” I laughed.
“Maybe. He is a hot British guy with a huge cock, so I guess there are some similarities.”
We ate dinner propped up in bed with trays across our laps. The entire conversation revolved around my story, with Adam providing insight into avenues I could take to enhance the story line. In my mind, he was a genius, and I kicked myself for not thinking of these things on my own.
“Don’t be down on yourself,” he said, noticing my frown after he’d commented on things that should have been obvious to me. “Sometimes it just takes a fresh set of eyes.”
I nodded unconvincingly.
“Seriously. You know the story in your head and you’ve explained it really well. I can picture everything like a movie playing out. I’m just making suggestions. It’s up to you if you want to change anything or leave it the way it is…which is as good as any novel I’ve ever read.”
So I still had some work to do, which was fine. I knew Adam’s feedback wouldn’t be the last I would receive on the story. Angie would put her agent’s hat on and change things, and my editor—when I got one—would also want areas changed. Just because I was happy with it didn’t mean that it was a finished product.
It was getting late and I was dead tired, having hardly slept the past few nights worrying about Adam. Climbing into bed, I snuggled into him, enjoying the warmth of his skin against my cheek.
“I’m so glad you’re back, babe,” I murmured, holding him tight.
He kissed my head. “Me too. I’m sorry I was such an arse.”
Smiling, I let that comment go, resisting the urge to tell him he hadn’t been an ass when he clearly had been.
“The last thing I wanted to do was hurt you. You mean the world to me.”
I paused. “Why’d you call her?” I asked softly. I had to know; it was eating me up that he had phoned Annabel.
“I just wanted a prescription. I had no idea she would overreact and drag me off to the hospital.” He stroked my hair. “I think she just wanted to get me away from you.”
I snuggled in tighter. “Well she managed that by not lettin’ me visit you in the hospital.”
He raised his head to gaze down at me. “Did you come to visit?”
“Of course I did. I even brought you flowers.”
He sighed, shaking his head against the pillow. “Let me guess. They were…”
“Yellow roses,” we said in unison.
His hand brushed my hair from my brow as he kissed my head. “I should have known. She would never bring me flowers.”
“Do you think she’s still in love with you?”
He chuckled, his chest vibrating and bouncing my head. “I don’t know if she’s capable of loving anyone other than herself. I think she just doesn’t like the fact that you make me happy. She took great delight in breaking my heart, but you’ve mended it, Evie. I feel whole again.”
“You’ve mended my heart too. I don’t even think ’bout Charles and my old life anymore. All I want is to look toward the future.”
There was silence for a while as my mind wandered, fantasizing about lazy days and long nights with Adam.
“We’ve got about two weeks left together, baby.”
My heart sank. “I know.”
Adam was gone when I awoke, and for the briefest of moments I had the gut-churning feeling that our reconciliation had all been a dream, wonderful and heart-melting, but still only a dream. But as the familiar sound of his humming filtered into my addled brain, I realized he was here, with me, and naked in the shower.
Quickly wiping the sleep from my eyes, I stretched and rolled my shoulders, then hopped up. If Adam was in the shower, there was no way I was staying in bed and missing out.
Slipping through the half-open bathroom door, I stood back and watched in lusty wonderment as Adam shampooed his hair, then let the water run over him, rinsing the soap so it slid down his body, following the peaks and valleys of his muscular torso.
“Enjoying the show?” he called from under the water.
How did he always know when I was watching him?
A slow sexy smile graced his face while he combed his fingers through his hair. “Are you coming in?”
The water was scalding hot, which was how Adam liked it, but he adjusted the temperature for me and I stepped in.
“I think I need a haircut,” he commented, still running his fingers through it to rinse out any remaining shampoo.
“I like it long. It’s sexy.” It had grown a lot and was now long enough to tie back. My fingers joined his, caressing his hair before running along his bearded jaw.
“I was surprised when I met Charles. He was very…neat.”
I chuckled. “Yep, that’s Charles. Not a hair outta place.”
He was extremely well groomed, always clean-shaven and his hair perfect. Even in the middle of winter he had a golden tan that made his brilliant white teeth gleam.
Adam’s hands ran around his bearded jaw. “Even his clothes were pristine. Trousers and a button-up shirt, all tucked in and not a crease. I’m like the exact opposite.”
I chuckled. “Just like I’m the opposite of Annabel, with her perfect blonde hair, full face of makeup, and her little knitted dresses and heels.”
He laughed, lathering up his hands as he eyed my naked body. “Maybe we should set Charles and Annabel up together?”
“She’d eat him alive—”
“Or lead him astray. Either way, it would keep them busy and away from us.”
Adam soaped up his hands and proceeded to run them sensually over my body, paying particular attention to my breasts. As his hands slid over my chest, he slowed at my nipples, gently teasing them until they stood erect. His gaze flicked up to meet mine as his tongue leisurely wet his bottom lip. Then he squatted down in front of me and ran the suds down my legs, and up between my thighs.
“Hello, little friend. I’ve missed you.”
I looked down. “Are you talkin’ to my vagina? You know it can’t answer ya, right?”
“Oh, don’t you worry. She talks to me in her own way, but I think we need to get reacquainted. It’s been far too long.”
I wasn’t going to argue with that. There had been so many things I had missed while Adam and I were apart. I had missed his voice and his laugh. The way he sounded so thoroughly British, like a true gentleman, but then would say some very ungentlemanly things that always caught me by surprise and made me squeal with delight, or get all hot and bothered. And of course I had missed him physically. His caress, his lips…his tongue…were mind-blowing.
“I think I need to give you some more scenes to write, baby.”
“But my book’s finished.” I bit my lip expectantly.
“So we need to start working on the sequel.” He closed the faucet and reached out of the shower and handed me a fluffy towel. “Let’s move this somewhere a little more comfortable.”
Gasping for breath, I rolled my head over on the pillow to take in Adam. He was watching me, the biggest, sexiest grin I’d ever seen gracing his handsome face. I was lost for words; it seemed our few days apart and breakup scare had spurred him on to physically prove to me just how much he cared. He was such a giving man, in every way. It was one of
the many things I loved about him.
Love? Who said that?
We were nowhere near the declarations-of-love stage, and yet I felt so comfortable thinking it that I had to be careful not to let it slip out. Was I really in love with him? That was a huge question, but the answer was surprisingly simple. Yes, I think I was. In fact, when I compared my feelings for Adam to how I had felt for Charles when we were at the height of our relationship, I could honestly say I was more in love with Adam than I had ever been with anyone before in my life.
But I was going to lose him in two weeks, and I found that to be terrifying.
“Your face is so expressive, Buttercup.” Adam had rolled onto his side and was watching me as my face went from flushed and lusting, to dreamy, then finally to dreading the end of our stay here.
“I’m just thinkin’.”
“What about?”
I didn’t want to get all deep and chase him away, but if I let him leave without telling him how I felt, I would regret it for the rest of my life. But I had to tread carefully.
“I’m just thinkin’ ’bout how much you mean to me. How much I care ’bout you.” Yep, care was a good word, not too scary.
He leaned up on his elbow, head resting in hand. “Well I should hope you care about me, because I’m fucking crazy about you.”
Okay, that was good enough for now. He may not have declared his undying love for me, but “fucking crazy” I would take any day of the week.
“Should we read some more of your book?” Sitting up, he leaned over and lifted the laptop onto his lap, then found the section he was up to.
I went to leave, to give him some space while he read, but he pulled me over and tucked me under his arm.
“I think you find more grammatical errors when you read out loud. So I’m going to read to you, if that’s okay?”
We settled in and Adam began reading.
“Mac’s stubbled jaw tickled my breasts as his kisses descended farther. He took his time, knowing that the slower he moved, the more heightened my senses became, just waiting for that next tingling brush from his lips. It was torturous, a blissful, heady torture that blocked out the raucous partying from next door until we could have been alone on a deserted island, just the two of us. There was no one else in the world when I was with Mac. No pain, no loss, no heartbreak—only him.
“As his tongue dipped into my belly button, I let out a throaty moan, my back arching from the mattress. His hands slid underneath me until they found my butt, then gripping firmly, he lifted my hips to his face, my legs falling open. With one firm swipe of his tongue, he had my body trembling as I waited, every ounce of my concentration focused on what he was about to do next.
“With a cocky wink that made me smile at his brashness, he buried his face between my thighs, licking and sucking until my head lolled back on the pillow and I was seeing stars. It was too much, too sensitive, and yet I wanted more.
“He stopped, and I couldn’t help but voice my disappointment through a whimper.
“‘Don’t worry, baby, I’ll keep going in a minute.’
“He swung around on the bed so that he was facing the other way, his hips now lined up perfectly with my face.
“‘I want you to suck my cock at the same time.’”
Adam stopped reading, a broad grin plastered on his face. “Now why does this seem familiar to me?” He tapped his finger to his chin, pondering that question for a moment. “Oh, that’s right—you wrote this from experience.” He chuckled, kissing my hair chastely. “Do you know why I turned around?”
I shook my head.
“Because I get so fucking turned on when I go down on you. Your taste, your scent, the noises you make and the way your body moves…I love it.”
He just used the “L-word.”
“Well, ya know, if it’s so important to you, I’ll let you do it more often.”
He laughed, scruffing up my hair. “Gee thanks, baby, that’s so generous of you.”
I shrugged. “You’re welcome. Anythin’ I can do to help.”
He cleared his throat before continuing.
“Taking Mac in my mouth, I slowly twirled my tongue around his smooth head. He moaned as he watched me, his bottom lip sucked into his mouth.
“‘That feels good, baby.’ He sighed.
“I knew what he liked, so I went to work, sucking and licking along the length of him.
“He pulled me toward him, his head going back between my thighs, his hot breath coming out in puffs against my wetness every time I took as much of him in as possible. The sensation was building for both of us, with Mac’s hips rhythmically pumping and my own body writhing uncontrollably.
“As Mac’s fingers came into play, rubbing my inner walls, my body became tense, every muscle coiled like a spring. Mac was close—I could taste it—so, trying to ignore my own body’s reactions, I focused on him.
“He raised his head, watching what I was doing, so I put on my best performance. As his hand came to rest gently on my head, his breathing became erratic. His hips stilled until finally his abdominals clenched and he groaned his release.
“Wiping my mouth, I lay down flat on my back, still stroking him gently.
“He took a moment to catch his breath before burying his face again. It didn’t take long before I, too, was riding that wave and crying out, the euphoria washing over me and through my body until I was totally spent.”
“Hmm, you are a noisy one, but I love it when you let go.”
There’s that “L-word” again.
My face grew hot as I smiled shyly. “I never knew I was noisy till I met you. Some of the sounds that come out—”
“They’re primal…and guttural…and fucking horny.” His gorgeous blue eyes went from playful, to dark and suggestive. “Just thinking about the sounds you make is such a turn-on.” He planted a lingering, sweet kiss on my lips. “Reading about the things we’ve done together.” His mouth met mine again, and this time the kiss was heated as his tongue caressed mine.
I ran my hand over Adam’s abdomen and continued down. He was rock hard, obviously turned on by reading about our sexcapades.
“Hmm, look what I found,” I murmured in between kisses.
He sighed. “I think someone’s happy to see you…again. Seems I can’t get enough of you, Evie Rivers.”
In one move, Adam rolled onto his back and pulled me astride. Not astride his hips, but astride his face. He drew me down, but I resisted.
“You’ll suffocate.” All I could see were his eyes, black pools staring up at me.
“Maybe. But what a way to go.” He sighed, before applying more force.
With his hands gripping my hips, he controlled the pressure and speed of my movements, pushing and pulling me back and forth, my hands grasping the headboard for balance. I closed my eyes and let my head drop back as I listened to the muffled sounds of Adam enjoying the act as much as I was enjoying receiving it. But somewhere in the back of my muddled mind, I was still worried that Adam couldn’t breathe with my weight on him.
I looked down. His eyes were closed, his head raised from the pillow as he worked his magic. He must have sensed my eyes on him, for he opened his for the briefest of moments, a devilish sparkle in them before he winked, and I finally relaxed.
I loved the feel of him beneath me. I adored the rubbing of his whiskers and his moans of absolute longing. He had said it turned him on to pleasure me, so I glanced over my shoulder to check. Sure enough, one hand had left my hip and he was now slowly stroking himself, totally lost in the deed. I didn’t know where to look. If I looked down, I could see Adam’s face, half buried between my thighs. But if I looked back, I could watch as he touched himself, the mere thought of which lifted my arousal to the next level.
So I watched. Riding Adam’s face, I watched as his hand ran up the length of him and over the head, before sliding back down, his hips lifting with every stroke. As his breathing became ragged, I knew he was close, too close.<

“Adam…”
His eyes slowly opened. They were glazed and black.
“Fuck me,” I panted.
He pushed me down his body in an instant, and straight onto his waiting cock. As soon as he was inside me, I lost the last threads of rational thought as unbridled lust took over and I dug my nails into the pillow on either side of his head to gain traction.
“Ah, God, Evie…you feel…amazing.”
So did he.
As I went from riding one part of him to another, he held me down hard against him until we were both crying out and breathless, and covered in sweat.
I flopped down onto his chest, sure my heart would never calm from the race it was running.
“We didn’t use a condom,” I finally managed to mumble into his neck.
His hand went to my damp hair, brushing it back from my face. “Shit, I’m sorry, baby. I didn’t even think…You said ‘fuck me’ and I thought ‘hell yeah.’”
I sat up. “So you didn’t think about it?”
He eyed me warily. “No,” he said slowly. “But it shouldn’t be a big deal. Is it a big deal?” He ran his fingertips down my spine, giving me goose bumps. “I mean, you can’t get pregnant, right? You said so yourself.”
That was a good point. After seven years of trying to have a baby, I was almost positive I couldn’t get pregnant. So was it a big deal? I’d only ever slept with Charles, so I knew my history, but I didn’t know Adam’s and where he’d sown all his wild English oats.
His hands rested on my thighs. “I know you’ve only been with Charles.”
I nodded.
“And I’ve had medical tests—”
I frowned. Why was he having medical tests?
“I mean physicals, you know, to come to America and work. You have to have a clean bill of health.”
Okay, but he’d been here for a number of years, and Annabel could well have been a skanky hoe and slept around.
He tapped my nose with his index finger. “I don’t have any contagious diseases, I promise.”
“How can you be sure?”
