“Don’t, Gabriel, please. Just do what you want. I trust you.”

I wanted him to fuck me. Gabriel made a deep groan into the side of my neck, kissing me. He wanted to take control but he didn’t want me to be afraid. I wasn’t afraid of him and I knew he wouldn’t hurt me. I wanted to give him the control. Let him have the power over what we were about to do. This was normal, I told myself. This is what normal consenting adults did. It was time.

“Lily,” Gabriel warned. “I’m holding on by a thread here. Maybe we should do this later.”

  “Please,” I begged.

Gabriel hooked his arm around my waist and slowly slid his hand into the front of my panties. I felt myself quiver. I leaned my back against his chest, allowing myself to enjoy the feeling of his thick fingers inside of me as they searched and played with my already sensitive flesh.

“You’re always so fucking wet for me, Lily. I’ve been thinking about this all day. It’s been driving me crazy.”

I moaned and Gabriel gripped me harder, breathing heavily against the back of my neck. I wanted this man.

  “Fuck. I’m sorry, Lily.”

He didn’t want to be rough with me but I wanted him to be just that.

“Gabriel, I want you to,” I gasped out.

There were wet patches on my back from the first drips of semen from his cock. I ran the inside of my palm along the thick hard length, squeezing softly.

“That’s how much I want you,” he whispered against my neck.

He spun me around kneading my heaving breasts with his hands. He knelt on the floor and began to kiss them drawing my nipples to hard pebbles with his mouth. I pressed his face against my stomach and he inhaled deep against my skin and moved to stand behind me again.

“How do you want it, Lily?” Gabriel’s breathing was heavy.

“I want you to fuck me, Gabriel, like this.”

I turned and bent over, jutting my ass out. I placed my palms in front of me, on top of the thick white comforter spread out on the bed. Gabriel made a long groan and grabbed my ass firmly, slapping one of my cheeks. It made a loud crack in the heavy silence of the room. He licked my neck and moved back to smack my ass again. I groaned and almost giggled at how much I turned him on. I glanced back at Gabriel over my shoulder and pursed my lips, licking them slowly. His mouth hung open slightly while he stroked his cock with his hand. Then he leaned his big body over me and put his mouth to my ear, kissing the outer shell and took a heavy breath.

“Lily, we can’t do it like this. I don’t think I can restrain myself and I don’t want to scare you.”

I wanted him. I wanted him to fuck me any way he liked. Gabriel moved to sit next to me and pulled me up from the bed bringing me against him.

“No, Gabriel, please,” I begged. “I want you to fuck me like this...from behind.”

Gabriel groaned. “Lily, I don’t want to hurt you. If my cock goes in your pussy in this position, I’m not going to stop fucking you for a little while. Be careful of what you’re asking me for.”

  “Please, Gabriel.”

“Lily, if it starts to get too much, please tell me to stop and I will.”

  “Okay,” I said nodding.

He moved slowly to stand behind me again and I could feel him pressing against my wet entrance. In one thrust he slipped in slowly, stilling my hips so that I wouldn’t move.

“That’s it, Lily. You’re so fucking tight. Open up for me, beautiful.”

I moaned loudly, enjoying the sensation of him splitting me open. He moved slowly, breathing heavily and I could feel some of my wetness begin to trickle down my leg. He pulled out and pushed back in over and over. The feeling was making me crazy. My legs trembled and sweat trickled down my spine, down the crack of my ass. I let out a long moan and took a deep breath, splaying my palms against the mattress.

“That’s right, Lily. Let it out. Don’t hold your breath, baby.” Gabriel grunted loudly, pumping into me.

His cock was growing harder with each thrust. Gabriel placed his hands around the back of my neck gently but firmly. He pushed into me relentlessly. The bed started to scrape across the floor with each thrust. I moved to hold on to something, anything I could find. I held on to Gabriel’s forearm, stilling my wide hips while he blasted into me.

“Don’t stop!” I panted out. “Fuck me,” I growled.

I tried to hold my breath again to stop the ugly sounds from leaving my mouth.

“Breathe, Lily, baby, breathe,” Gabriel rasped out, smoothing my hair away from my face.

“I’m going to come, Gabriel,” I groaned out, feeling my slick walls throb around the base of his cock.

It felt as though my heart stopped for a brief second while the orgasm took over.

“That’s it, baby, come all over my cock.” Gabriel pumped harder and harder, making my orgasm even more intense, until he found his own release.

Gabriel stilled me against him and let out a savage noise, filling my pussy with his cum.

“Are you okay?” he whispered, kissing along my neck.

“Yes, Gabriel. I’m fine. It was good.”

He palmed my face, forcing me to look at him for what felt like an eternity.

“It was good, Gabriel. I promise.”

“Okay,” he said as he collapsed onto the bed, pulling me into the crook of his body.

Abigail had asked me to come into the office early for a few hours.

“How did you like the cookies?” Brenda asked when I plopped my bags down on the desk.

“They were good, Brenda. You should sell them.”

This was the first time I worked in the vet office on a day that Brenda was here. I didn’t know much about her except that she worked very hard for the Preston family between the ranch and for Abigail.

Brenda was short and pudgy. She wore wigs and her makeup was always over the top. Each time I saw Brenda, her hair was a different color and a different style. It was bright red, orange, brown, blond. Then sometimes curly, fluffy or wavy or in a bouffant. Her fingernails were long and always painted bright colors. She almost reminded me of a clown. A sweet old lady clown.

“Has Abigail been in today?” I asked her.

“No, not yet. She might not be in until later. I know from experience pregnancy can be difficult, especially in the last few months, and Abigail is always on her feet,” Brenda said while she cleared the fax machine.

  “I wouldn’t know.”

“So you don’t have any little ones, Lily? With Gabriel?”

I chuckled. “No, Brenda, we don’t have any kids. We’re just friends.”

There it was again, that word friends. It had gotten me into trouble on more than one occasion. I wasn’t sure what to label this thing that I had with Gabriel. Was it a relationship? Was it still a friendship? Was it a friendship with benefits? I needed to ask him. Brenda turned from the fax machine giving me a long, concerned look.

“Sorry, I was under the impression that you and Gabriel were a couple. I mean you look like a couple—you live together.

“I always see you both on the ranch together, driving together, at McGavy’s together and he picks you up from the vet office after work if it’s dark, even if it is just a ten-minute walk to the cottage.

“If my eyes work correctly, I believe I also once saw you both at Dr. Gerard’s office in the waiting room together. If anyone had asked me, I’d say the two of you are a couple.”

  This town was too small.

“No, we’re just friends, Brenda,” I repeated.

“Gabriel is a hottie,” she said, doing a little dance before plopping down at her desk. “If I was only twenty years younger!”

I broke into hysterics staring at Brenda, noticing her face suddenly went pale.

  “Everything okay?”

“Um, yeah I think so. I just read something. You heard that Miles quit, right?” Brenda’s eyebrows were knotted together.

“Yeah, I heard. He moved back to Virginia or somethin
g. That’s what Lee said anyway.”

“He left quickly, most of us didn’t even really get a chance to say goodbye. It was so fast.”

“I think Lee said the same thing when I last saw him.”

A woman walked in with a large German shepherd dog that had its paw wrapped in gauze, interrupting our conversation. Brenda stood up from her chair to assist the woman. I overheard Brenda tell the woman that it would be twenty minutes before the doctor arrived in the office but that she was welcome to sit and wait. I peered over to Brenda’s computer screen curiously. There was an email included in a short bulletin.

  Miles was missing.

Gabriel and I’d been fucking a lot lately over the past few weeks. We made love nearly every day, sometimes two and three times. We fucked in the shower, in the bed, in the kitchen. I gave him a blow job in the truck last night and let him come all over my breasts, which he seemed to enjoy. We fucked everywhere and he couldn’t ever seem to keep his mouth off my pussy—not that I complained. I was exhausted but Gabriel never seemed to tire.

“We are due to leave in a few weeks.”

Gabriel slipped out of bed this morning and threw on a black sweatshirt over his head.

“I’ll give Jacob the exact date for some supplies I need to take with us but for now I only know it will be the first week of next month. I’ll confirm which day later.”

“Okay.” I nodded and sat back in bed.

I wasn’t sure if I was ready to leave. I had mixed feelings about it.

“Gabriel, did you hear that Miles is missing?”

“Missing. Missing can mean a lot of things, Lily. What type of missing?”

I laughed at Gabriel’s reasoning. I only knew there to be one type of missing, as most people did.

“Gabriel, missing, as in nowhere to be found, as in no one has seen him.” Gabriel narrowed his eyes at me, not appreciating my sarcasm.

“No, I hadn’t heard. The last time I saw Miles he was packing up his house. He left the state of Montana. If he is missing then he went missing once he got to Virginia. He’s probably just laying low for a few days with some broad. When she gets pregnant, he’ll ditch her and be found again,” he said, dismissing everyone’s concern.

The bulletin that I read on Brenda’s computer said he hadn’t been seen in four weeks and his sister and other family members were concerned about his whereabouts. The police were appealing to residents in the state of Montana that had last seen him.

He sat on the bed next to me, resting his hand on my leg. “Lily, if there is anything we can do to help Miles be found, the Preston family will do it.”

Abigail was six months pregnant. She was getting bigger but she was still able to move around with ease. After we debated over the phone early this morning, we decided to have lunch at The Tavern, a local French restaurant. It was upscale casual. The food was usually good and the ambiance very Parisian-like. Abigail casually flipped through a baby name book while she sat across the table from me.

“I was thinking, if it’s a girl, maybe Marlowe or Catherine. If it’s a boy, maybe Jared or Ethan? What do you think, Lily?

“Lily, are you here with me?” Abigail repeated herself, bringing my thoughts back to her question.

I blinked and focused on Abigail’s face. She stared at me with knotted eyebrows.

  “Lily, what is it?”

“Has Gabriel ever been to prison?” Abigail placed her burgundy menu back on the table slowly.

“I really don’t feel that it’s my place to talk about that with you.”

“Did you hear that Miles is missing?”

Abigail met my eyes with a panicked look on her face. “No, I didn’t,” she whispered.

“Abigail, tell me please. There is so much I don’t know. I feel like everyone around here knows something about Gabriel that they won’t tell me.”

“Well firstly, why haven’t you asked Gabriel yourself, Lily, if it concerns you so much?” she asked angrily. “And secondly, no one around here knows anything about Gabriel. They think they know things, Lily, but they know nothing.”

We were enjoying a wonderful cup of tea before I brought this topic up that Abigail didn’t wish to talk about. Abigail placed her tea cup in the saucer and continued to stare out the window.

  “Abigail, please,” I implored.

“Lily, Gabriel is a unique person. That’s why he lives up in the mountains alone. He’s happy living there. He doesn’t need or crave social interaction or friends like the rest of us do.

“We are what you would classify as normal, Lily. Can you not see that something about Gabriel is different? You live with him for Christ’s sake,” Abigail spat out, twisting her face.

“No, Abigail,” I whispered. “Gabriel is good to me. He’s all I have. I care about him.”

“Then why all these questions, Lily? If you need answers to your questions, I’d suggest you ask him yourself!” Abigail slammed her hand down on the table making the dishes rattle, then waddled out of her seat and left.

What the fuck was her problem?

“I want to ask you something,” I said, staring up at the ceiling.

“Okay.” Gabriel shifted to lean over me.

“But I don’t want you to lie to me.”

He huffed. “I never lie to you, Lily, ever.”

“Have you ever been to prison?”

  “Yes.”

I paused for a moment. “What was it like?”

“It was a real shit hole, Lily. I’m never going back there.”

I fiddled with the ends of my hair quietly for a moment, hesitant to ask the next question.

He smiled to himself. “You’re not going to ask me for what, Lily? You’re debating if you want to know.”

  “Okay, for what?”

  “Murder,” he said simply.

He ran his palm over my bare stomach. I instantly felt my skin heat up in response to his touch. He was distracting me.

  “How long?”

  “Five years.”

  “Did you do it?”

  “Yes, but it was complicated.”

Gabriel had killed someone. He was a killer. I was sleeping next to a killer. Every single alarm was going off in my head to what he’d just told me. I couldn’t understand why he would admit this to me. Why now?

He gave me a long look. “I trust you, Lily. I know you would never repeat any of my secrets, ever.”

  “What happened?”

“There was an incident a few years ago. Three guys ended up dead. I went to prison for one of them. It was unavoidable. A careless mistake was made. I took responsibility for it. I did my time. It’s over.”

Gabriel’s hair brushed against my face as he started to kiss my neck and then began to kiss me firmly, opening my mouth with his tongue. I slanted my head away from his and proceeded with my questions.

“What happened to the other two guys?”

Gabriel moved above me, sliding my panties down my thighs, tossing them somewhere. He slid down between my legs, resting his weight on his elbow, pressing his lips to mine.

“They were killed, Lily,” he said in between kisses.

  “Who were they?”

“No one important—they were only names and faces to me.”

“What do you mean? You don’t remember who they were?” I asked, letting out a loud groan when he slid into me with one hard thrust.

  “Shhhh,” Gabriel whispered.

“Are you sorry? About it all?” I pressed, trying to steady my breathing.

“No,” he grunted out when he settled into a desperate stroke, stretching my insides.

“Promise me you will never leave me, Lily. That you won’t ever try to leave me,” he whispered.

I whimpered, taking a deep breath.

  “Promise me,” he said again.

  “I promise, Gabriel.”

“I’m really sorry about the other day, Lily.” Abigail sat on the last step of the porch.

I joined her on the ste
ps, holding a bottle of water in my hand. The weather was warmer but there was still a slight chill in the air. The sun was out and there was light snow cover. Abigail’s brown skin looked radiant and her hair was styled back in a typical long braid down her back.

“I’m just really hormonal lately and I don’t like talking about Gabriel. It’s not my place and Jacob wouldn’t like it.” Abigail rested her arms behind her leaning back against the stairs, her belly was huge.

“I understand. I didn’t mean to upset you.” I tapped my plastic bottle as I waited for Abigail to speak.

“There’s still a lot I don’t know about Jacob,” she blurted out.

  “And you’re okay with that?”

“I don’t know. I guess even when you think you don’t know, you still know, so I guess what I don’t know doesn’t matter.” Abigail shrugged.

What she just said made no sense to me.

“Well, it all sounds a bit strange to me.” I laughed.

“Jacob and Gabriel think they are nothing alike. They both feel that way. But after being around Jacob for years and the stories he’s told me about Gabriel, I beg to differ. They are more alike than they both realize.”

  I didn’t have a response for that.

“The Preston family is very private. I’ve only met their mother, Mika, three times in my life. She doesn’t come down to Helena much.”

In the distance over the fence, Lee was rounding up some cattle along with three other men. He shot us a hello with the tip of his hat and rode off in the other direction.

“I guess you both have been packing up in the last few days?” Abigail looked around her noticing a few cardboard boxes stacked up on the porch.

“Yes, a little. We didn’t have to bring much here. Just clothing mostly and some books Gabriel wanted to bring along. It shouldn’t take more than two days to pack up our stuff. But I think Gabriel might be taking back some building supplies, I’m not sure.”

“I’ll miss you, Lily. I wish you could be here for when the baby is born.”
